  1. Yeah got the same problem here too!
  2. I always want tooo much, thank you for all the info will post when I finally make a choice.
  3. Hi All, I have a question for you wise people out there. I have been geocaching for a while now and have a Garmin 76csx, however I would like to go paperless. I have tried the Palm VX using spinner and a serial port but you really have to be dedicated to go this route as it takes a heap of time to spin the caches and then download them via serial port. So to my question, is it better to get one of the new GPS units or go the PDA route? I was looking at the Colorado 550t but it seems this unit only has the capacity to use the last 5 logs and limited storage space. I am looking for something that will allow me to download all the logs with clues etc and then still be able to handle at least 1000 caches without splitting them into two or multi separate pages that you have to open separately to search for the cache that you are looking for. I know I want a lot but what the hell been doing it for a while and looking for an easier way than reams of paper but want it easy to update and keep all the data with me etc, etc. Any recommendations? Just by the way I am still very happy with the functioning of my Garmin 76CSX, so if I buy a PDA I will not need a new GPS, however will need the specific software for PDA as only have GSAK at present. Any ideas welcome. Thank you Steve
  4. Hey if I want to go for a FTF why not? If you think about it the whole of geocaching is just a pointless excercise! What do you get? Nothing. You could just walk around the block if you wanted to get fit. I love both geocaching and ftf it's my right to love them, you do not have to do them but please do not mock people for wanting to! Both of them I do for FUN it does not have to be for some reason, just because I enjoy it is enough for me. PS: Of 525 finds only 2 have been FTF just do not seem to react fast enough as we are a family team, but still love them when I stumble onto one.
  5. Do you enter a race to come second? While it is very difficult to get a FTF here in ACT it only makes it more fun and is it not the idea to find it first?
  6. To me, you know when you are a FTF or not no matter what the numbers say. If you are only going for FTF maybe you should look at another hobby. If it really gets to you just exclude his caches. I must admit I do not have that many FTFs, but still love finding an usigned log book, make my heart (if I had one) skip a beat. Cache on - Steve
  7. I also use a Palm Vx. but I use a slightly different process: 1) I use GSAK for all caches found / not found / puzzle etc 2) I use GSAK's filter to create only the caches I want to upload(Saves time as serial can really be slow!!!) 3) I then generate an htl or html file (internet type file) from GSAK 4) Then use plucker to load that file and generate all in the correct format. 5) Then sync with palm Vx 6) NB: remember to delete the old files before syncing or generating new ones. Then off you go paperless!
  8. Heres a different idea, perhaps we should all join that way we could try and change it from just giving the answers to giving ideas on how we all can grow and solve the puzzles. The "in the know people" could help the less knowledgeable people become good code breakers. Setting up similiar type of examples and helping people solve those, this could change the present attitude and help convert a few people into puzzle solvers. I am in Canberra where the ratio of puzzle caches is pretty high and some of them I just don't see! Would be nice if you could complete them with the work but still complete them! Like for example on cipher caches I found a web site that told you how to identify different types and go about solving each type - now at least when I see one I can give it a go. But there are some caches out their I do not even have a clue were to start. Anyway thats just my ideas Steve
  9. Hi redjada, Perhaps burying a coin is not the best idea, it could result in people digging and destroying the area. Next thing you know geocaching will be banned there. With the pressure we are already under to stop geocaching in various natural locations perhaps it might be better if we kept the two apart. I would hate to only be able to find town micros!
  10. Sorry cannot take the box either as the postage to downunder would be more than the box.
  11. stevexxx Troll - is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community Seems like you are getting very close yourself
  12. For me it's very simple, I cache for fun - I will sign anything that has a log book, but if it is full and I mean full, or so wet you cannot write on it then I will log a find with a maitenance note and I will include in my log that I have not signed it. To me I found the cache that it has not been maintained is not my fault - I will however add an additional log if I have one with me. However I do read the cache page so if the hider has specific requirements I will comply to these as well, like I have a cache that I found over a year ago but have yet to log as one of the requirements is that you include a picture of yourself at cache and did not have a camera when I completed it. Eventually I will get around to it. Cache for Fun
  13. Hey Crab, This is why a lot of us are "lurkers" Some times I feel that if you put your ideas into a topic and the general group does not feel the same way, rather than just leaving it at that they will attack like a pack of dogs. Having said that most cachers are great - helpful people that will assist you in almost any way thay can if you use things like please and thank you and try and avoid anything attacking or religious and man avoid anything patriotic cause if it's not American your f***ed. You must also remember that while we all can grip / moan here it is moderated so if you go to some other chat groups they will be a lot less tolerant of you and your ideas. Overall if you like caching this is a great place to be. Just ignore the annoying ones, take the compliments and advise and always say thank you and you are well on your way. Good caching Steve

    Emulation?

Hi all Can you use a normal PC with an emulator in it? I have one of these small laptops and would like to try this but have tried to download a emulator to no avail. If you know of an emulator that works can you please supply me with the download site and if there are any instructions around for it that would also be great. If I find any that work will let you know on any progress I make. Thank you in advance Steve
  15. Welcome to the very addictive world of geocaching to all the new guys and girls.
  16. Welcome to the Geocaching world. To start I would stick to easy geocaches - look at both logs and ratings on the geocaching pages, also try to choose regular and ammo cases for initial finds - also stock your kids with swops so they can trade (don't be caught with a cache they cannot trade at - it kinda ruins the exsperiance for them). If you get them hooked early it makes geocaching a pleasure for you. Oh yes and initially do not do too many caches, the kids get bored easily. Rather have them wanting to go caching tomorrow than do too many and have them all negative. Oh and lastly but definitly not least let them find the easy ones - look but if you see it let them get it - if they are battleing to find it then perhaps a hint etc. I also do not let them look too long if they start loosing focus I normally just find it saying it's one for the dads and evetually I am going to beat them always seems to add to the competition, but always let them win. Hope this is of some use. Regards Steve
  17. Thnk you for the input, contacted Groundspeak and they have already responded. Thank you Groundspeak I appreciate the speed and professionalism with which you handled this case. Regards Steve
  18. Nick it depends what type of cache you want to place - basically any water tight container will do. For small caches try key holder (magnetic) available at your local lock smith or even false rocks that you can also get there or you can make your own, some people really get inventive. For a first cache I owuld stick to the basics - strong water proof container. After that the choices are endless. Be inventive and have fun Regards Steve

  20. Unfortunatly no and like I said my paypal account says "uncleared" not sure why. But thank you for the reply Steve
  21. Hi All What Now? I finally upgraded my account from basic, spent my $30 from my paypal account. But I am still a basic member, I tried to paste the number into the open spot on the premuim page. So logged into my paypal account and it says "uncleared", funny that there is plenty of money in my paypal account and many of my geocoin transactions have gone off straight away. Does anyone know what I am waiting for and / or how long it will be before this becomes cleared. Like I said my geocoins sales one from 2 days ago went off no problems and there is definitly enough money in the account. Do I just have to wait? Regards and Thanks for any answers Steve
  22. Great Coin Love the outside twists! Will definitly order some when they arrive. Once again great coin and well done on your design. Steve
