  1. I believe they sell a replacement battery cover as part of the bike mount package. Unfortunately, it's for a different model in the e-trex series and does not have a "relief" for the SD card - so does not fit properly. The OP needs to look at this thread and this thread The bracket that came with my Vista HCx is the one shown in that thread. Surprisingly, it snaps right into the bike handlebar mount I had bought for my old Magellan Merigold. edit: added 2nd link Thanks for the links... This clears up alot except for which mount to buy... large or regular.
  2. I did not realize that all I needed was the part for the handle bars. I found the piece that came with the unit and I now know what to order. I just have to figure out what size adaptor I need... regular or large.
  3. the mount they list doesn't fit. the micro sd card slot is in the way and it is too narrow for my unit. this bracket works for the older etrex units. i went to REI the other day and tried it out already so i was bummed and lucky i didn't buy it online before seeing it in person. i like the flush mount that they offer but it doesn't work. any suggestions for my bike mount?
  4. oops... double post. the stress for following rules must be getting to me...
  5. You'd better get your mind back on business. Like your responsibility to MANAGE CVC TAG. I have reason to believe that tag took a trip - way OUTSIDE the area. (No, I have been in or around Merced all weekend....) Get with it Bill!! Start an investigation!! Arrest or indict someone! Thanks Tom for your kind offer to take over the management of CVC Tag!!! I accept your gesture to help my work (and attention) load. There's a new sheriff in town. Somebody is going to have a stroke over this cache. I never knew how serious the players were. Note to self... stay away from cvc cache and the rules will not haunt me in my dreams.
  6. Geocaching is the priority with the autorouting secondary... Thanks for the response. Keep them coming everybody...
  7. I am looking for an inexpensive gps for a relative. They would like to load maps for autorouting and geocaching. I own a Garmin Etrex Vista HCX and love it but it might be out of their price range with all the maps. The least expensive one I am seeing is the Legend HCX. Is there another one out there that I am missing?
  8. I know - I'm just hassling Greg. But if you'd like to serve on the committee that teaches Greg (and Bill) English usage and spelling, let us know. (We call it EPL, "Engligh as a primary language.") The jail time would do him good. They teach classes in there and offer the same cache in the showers (oops... can I post that)?
  9. Figures. This is Greg asking... The only "Swing and Things" is in New York! Swings and Things So - I guess the answer is you buy an airline ticket, rent a car...... He is asking about the Big Swinging Thing cache. I told him to just park near the cache site and if anybody asks... He lost his dog... lol... and if that doesn't help, run like hell!!!
  10. This is a response to the post... I enjoy walks along the beach candlelight dinners and butterfly kisses just chilling by the fireplace.... Oh wait... after reading the above post I thought I was on www.match.com Delete, delete, delete (G has edited his post after I grabbed his quotes... lol )
  11. Just an outsider looking in again... The gps battery take away might not be harsh enough since I am reading some of the posts from Nascarfam and see how seriously he takes this hobby (not a sport G... I don't recall ever stretching or pulling anything before I go out caching). My suggestion has been upgraded... How about a good old fashion A_ _ wooping? I could bring the bat and some sideline popcorn. (This could classify as a sport... JK G)
  12. Outsider looking in on the CVC trial thing. Forget the trial and just take away his batteries for one month.
  13. I figured this one out when I did a system restore. The new service pack for xp caused the problems in recognizing the unit plugged in. I don't know why but the sytem restore fixed the problem.
  14. I need help on this one. I can receive power to my extrex vista hcx through usb but it will not recognize my unit as being plugged in to the computer to transfer geocaches. Any help would be appreciated.
  15. Can you turn the unit at an angle for the driver or is this a flat mount with no turning?
  16. It is definately the cold weather from having the unit in the car overnight. I powered up the unit this afternoon and it worked fine with the warm weather.
  17. Recently, I experienced a problem with my unit. When I turned the unit on after it was in the car overnight, the unit unexpectantly turned off when I hit the backlight. The weatherhas been pretty cool at night and this is not the washed out screen problem that was fixed with the last patch. My battery levels showed half full so I don't believe that this is a battery power issue. Once the unit is warmed up after a few minutes the problem goes away. It just happens from a cold start up after the unit has been off for a while. Anybody experience this problem or know of a fix?
  18. You should have bought the screen yesterday. Best thing I ever bought for my gps. If you scratch the screen, you actually damage the internal part of the unit.
  19. I was hoping you could tell me. Have you tried it, is it the perfect fit that was eluding users a while back? Thanks for the link. perfect fit for me... you will be happy.
  20. Garmin's tech support is based in the US, most likely at their headquarters in Kansas. I have never had a problem understanding English... Garmin customer service is the best that I have ever experienced. I love my Dell but that is another sore subject on the customer service.
  21. I wanted to test mine with the fridge test. I forgot about it and left it in the fridge overnight... oops. The next morning my wife asked me what the GPS was doing in the fridge... lol. I turned the unit on and everything works great with no washed out screen. I was updated to 2.6/2.6 so it looks good so far.
