  1. Can someone tell me what the difference is between an "artist only edition" and a regular edition? Don't roll your eyes, we aren't born with knowledge Thanks
  2. It would be awesome to have a Guatemala coin. I have been putzing around with a drawing for a personal coin relating to Xela, Guatemala just in case I should ever find myself with the funds needed for such a fantasy project. My 8-weeks in Xela was my first trip outside of the U.S. (not including Canada) and it was a life changing experience for me, something I have never experienced before or since. Possibly because it had such a profound effect on my world view and my place in it, as well as my personal attitudes towards and about some of the most simple things in life that I previously took for granted . . . like having clean drinking water out of the faucet just to name one example. It revealed to me to some of the most beautiful scenary and people (Maya) imaginable on one hand juxtaposed by exposing some of the most mind numbing poverty one can bear to see on the other. It brings tears of graditude mixed with tears of shame to my eyes at times. But here I go again, . . . needless to say I love Southern Mexico and sympathize with the Zapatistas of the region, and the Western highlands of Guatemala, Xela in particular. The moral of the story for me is to stay off the beaten path and get down where the rubber meets the road to experience the culture, rather than the tourist traps. Sorry for the exposition . . . hope I didn't bore you too much. Viva Xela! Peace jAY miLLS
  3. Going along with your line of thought, possibly a memorial cache, multi cache or a series of memorial caches would be more fitting. It eliminates the coin collector problem and still allows an opportunity for those who knew him to say a few words in rememberance in the log. Likewise it provides another cache or caches for those that didn't know him to seek out and locate which from what I am understanding in this thread is what he was all about anyway. That could be a nice tribute to his memory.
  4. Ohhhhh something to look forward too in the mail! Wooot! Can't wait.
  5. I did do not know this individual but am saddened to hear about the loss of a fellow geocacher who obviously contributed so much to advance the sport in South Carolina or anywhere as far as that goes. I would think that if the family wished to put some coins into circulation they could activate all of them, name them, give well worded detailed descriptions and goals and then ask the South Carolina Geocaching Association membership who I am sure would be more than willing not to mention honored (considering his involvement with the organization) about putting them in the wild for the family to follow on GC.com. They may even wish to give a limited number of unactivated coins to certain individuals who were an influence in his life in rememberance of their loved one. This way the majority, if not all the coins would belong to the family and they would be able to follow the coins travels or as you put it "so that Jon can keep caching in spirit". I could imagine this may even provide them comfort in some way. Of course nothing would keep an individual from just keeping the coin if they find it in the wild but I think a well worded description and goal for the coin would keep most of the coins in action. I think the whole coin idea is pretty kewl and I may even suggest to my loved ones to do something like that for me when my time comes. Not sure I answered your question at all but felt compelled to respond. Hope this helps anyway. Peace jAY miLLS
