Thanks for your input and you tell me if they should need a degree.
No, I dont think so, but I get the feeling you think they should?
-
Who should be allowed to develop earthcaches? Those with a background in the earth sciences or just simply everyone?
What Level of background of earth science do you think should be acceptable? a degree? Masters?
Or just someone who watches the National Geo channel once in awhile?
I think you need to remember geocaching is just a game. Also, if geoaware publishes them, then one would presume they cut the mustard?

Im sorry, but i just have to ask, are you taking the piss?

Took me 13 months, or 14....

Looks like a Kame to me too

I see he is banned now - good job, but watch for his next account!!
Was he boasting about his "trashing" on his profile page?
What a drop kick

Yep, I had a 60 CSx and pushed all my caches into it with the related icon. On the CO, it is all tied to the GPX file. The icon is coded on the GPX file. I believe all the icons are now correct EXCEPT the EarthCache icon.
Ill hold off on buying one till they fix it
Maybe they will fix it in a firmware upgrade? Keep an eye on the garmin homepage
-
Dag nab it, I thought you had a work around!
I Just use Easy GPS and select another symbol then send to gps.
Things maybe different with Colorado?
-
From your gallery it looks like you are using a 60CSx?
The CO is a different animal, do you know how to load geocaches into the CO with a custom icon?
No, actually I don't. Presumed it would be the same...... but it appears not to be.

This may be a cross post but it didn't get a lot of attention on the other forum.
I actively seek out EarthCaches while traveling. I now have the new Garmin Colorado and the EarthCache icon still appears as the traditional cache icon (green box). I have two issue with this. One, I want to see what caches in a given area are EarthCaches. Two, maybe a little more importantly, is that some searchers may be looking for a traditional cache at an EarthCache location and potentially cause harm to the location.
I've written to Groundspeak but they state it is a Garmin issue. Garmin needs more people to bring it to their attention.
Why dont you do a seperate PQ for Earthcaches and then load them selecting a different icon?
Simple really.

I think (and this is just my opinion) you are opening a pandora's box here. As with normal caches the owner should be able to access the cache, and it seems to me you are cheapening the EarthCache Master level requirements by "trading" Earthcaches.
Also, since GeoAware requires proof of permission obtained by the placer, that placer should remain owner IMO. It would be hard for a cacher from NZ to stay in communication with a permission giver in SA.
I wouldnt go and find a cache that I adopt out - to me thats "cheating".
Also, 3 caches in New Zealand were done by a Canadian, remotely, using the web and google earth..... Top notch EC's to.
Can you post GC codes or links to these NZ EC's?
What would be the point? - also, Im only going on hearsay.
no pressure. I'm curious as to the quality of alleged EC's.
Maybe you could do abit of detective work...... and report back to us?

I don't know about arm chair listing (or logging)
Hence the photo requirement on my earthcaches

Well, im rather keen to adopt a USA Earthcahe or 2 off another cacher and/or adopt one of my New Zealand ones out.
Let me know if anyone is keen on either.
This got me thinking.
1) I have a whole series here in South africa, and will be more than willing to share with anyone wanting an African cache.
2) If you let someone adopt one of your caches - can you find it?

How does it work here in England? Do different counties apply as states/regions?
I asked almost the same question about 2 months ago by email.
This is the answer I got:
In Europe, it must be different countries.States/provinces count only in the US, Canada, and Australia.
Does this answer your question?
Geoaware
I think that was a straight and clear answer.
GeoBSWEScout
Sweet, I was made to feel I had cheated in my country on recieving my Gold Pin. Music to my ears here

Looks like its 200 meters or feet or yards or whatever is used in the States away...... so it should be ok.
I would happily visit - get 2 smilies for the price of one

GC1CEHK is archived, not disabled, so thats all fine.

I saw someone in here with 90 something placed, and was rather impressed!

I sometimes send my reviewer gps cords of a GZ I have in mind before setting up my cache to be sure Im far enough away from any other caches ( pesky puzzles), and it saves the frustration that you are facing at the moment
I suggest you keep this in mind for future hides you maybe planning
