  1. Only 327 Caches within a 50 miles radius.
  2. After the scouts got some experience on finding caches you should let them hide their own cache. They surely will be very interested in reading who found the cache and what the finders traded. They could make it a multi and include some scouting related tasks. This cache is located on a scout campground: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LU...90-230167256bf0
  3. I would like it if any member of a troop would log my caches individually. BTW: Some caches placed by boy scouts: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...1a-6e0f675168c0 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...5b-9bcb0a710369 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...57-531ad9e0df0a
  4. LCs need much space on the server to store all the pictures. Maybe it could help if the pictures for LC logs are not longer stored on the gc.com server. Every cacher would have to store it somewhere else and only submit a link to the picture.
  5. I did it only once because the stages of the cache were about 20 km apart and the cache owner suggested to go by car from stage to stage. Because I don't like to make caches by car I used a map and google to get the information.
  6. Normally this should not happen because any GPSr should have an internal voltage regulator but I had this problem. I ignored the low battery warning and after about 30 minutes the koordinates were very inaccurate.
  7. I've got much experience with batteries and accumulators (professional and private) and the best brands I know are VARTA (batteries) and Panasonic (accumulators).
  8. The display of the GPSMap 76s is becoming slower and looks more dark in the cold. The usable capacity of my NiCD accumulators decreses. I keep the spare accus in my pocket to keep them warm and try to do the same with the GPSr as often as possible.
  9. There are two virtual caches which I enjoyed very much: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...d8-7951a0b77882 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...91-6eb25b6a6ce7 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...1b-9802aca18103 edit: added another one
  10. Slaterock Trail Nightmaar near Dauntown Leonibus Fortiores Charmed Bäumchen wechsel dich Eifel-Insel-Cache and the two other caches on this island Venn 1 and Venn 2 virtual caches: Ein Gebäude und seine Adresse Spooky III Scouting Badges (virtual) http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...91-6eb25b6a6ce7
  11. You can use a permanent magnet with an on/off switch (not electric). http://www.magnac.de/bestellen/bestellen.asp?P=030a.asp http://www.genoma.de/html/artikel_MH.127-1.html Edit: added links
  12. This could be a great idea for a locationless cache (if they can be listet in the future): find a flower clock.
  13. This cache trail leads you to 8 pillars each bearing a metal plate with a poem inspired by the surrounding landscape on it: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...68-ec866c98fe92
  14. Never use a flashlight to drain down batteries. The weekest accumulator will be disharged first and reverse charged until the other cells have remaining charge. Reverse charging will destroy any accumulator. NiCD cells should ONLY be totally disharged using a discharger that handles all cells seperately. BTW: At low temperatures NiCD performs much better than NiMH cells.
  15. I buy all my outdoor stuff at F&F: http://www.fahrtenbedarf.de Perfect service, low prices, very quick delivery and very friendly personnel.
  16. GPS amplifieres and repeaters can be purchased in many shops selling GPSr. They are used to improove GPS reception inside cars if your GPSr does not have an external antenna connector. The reception antenna and amplifier are placed on the roof of the car and the transmitter antenne is attached to your GPSr close to its build in antenna.
  17. For those who don't know how to fold a CITO bag: GC38E3
  18. I have read about it on a mailing list for boy scouts.
  19. I found many caches which are glass jars and I never had any problems nor found a broken one. If you put one or two plastik bags around it it is secured very well against breaking.
  20. Here, real multi caches are very rare. Almost every cache listet as a multi is an offset cache. Because it is very annoying to log a DNF after some 100 miles of drive and/or hours of hike because of a missing film container (they get lost very often) I prefer offset caches with "virtual" stages.
  21. I can't find no reason for logging a cache without having found it. Why should someone do this? It must be very awkward to be caught by the cache owner and have the log deleted or have a comment added to the log saying that one has not logged it in the paper log book inside the cache.
  22. Don't forget to find out what kind of electronic security system is used in the library (usually 3M or Knogo electromagnetic technology) and attach a NON deactivatable securtity tag to your cache. You can be sure it will never get lost nor checked out.
  23. We had a similar case here. Someone stole the big ammo box and left a cheap plastic box. After the cache owner complained about this behavior in the log a few days later the plastic box was stolen and the hiding place (a tree stump) totally destroyed.
  24. Some months ago I found a cache containing ladys slips. They were packed in a ziplock bag and seemed to be used. The cache is located on a little island in a smal lake and is known as the "love island". No one logged that he/she has put it in so I think it was an non gc who has found the cache.
  25. I found this one while reading the forums: http://img.Groundspeak.com/user/avatar/107129_2700.jpg
