  1. I haven't had a log deleted but I may have left some logs that could have been deleted. I have been known to cache when I am having a bad day and annoying caches will exacerbate the situation. Read the signature line. I would quite possibly let it be. Or, I might log a TFTC.
  2. I would like to place a cache that has an ALR that requires the cacher to report the coordinates they got when they were at the cache. Along with a time (rounded to the nearest 1/2 hour is good) and weather conditions. Would you post that as a mystery cache? Does this sound like a reasonable ALR? After I got a few logs then I might post some pictures of how the cache seems to move around the area. THIS IS NOT A MOVING CACHE. But we all know that GPSRs don't just settle right on the same GZ everyday. I will place this cache then try to average my readings over a few days before I get it published.
  3. I have seen numerous caches that were PVC pipe "buried" in the ground with the screw cap at or above ground level. They are legs of multis, TB hotels, and regular caches. I would say that I have seen at least 5 of them. GCPG2R Black Spot is a cache that is a pill bottle hidden in a hole that may or may not have previously held a sprinkler. I am not saying that the person who hid this cache dug the hole but it looks suspicious. So the general feeling here is that I should report them as buried and get them archived? I love how this is a hot button issue to the few who visit the forums, but it is never an issue with the previous 150 cachers who found these caches.
  4. Buried to me means that if you have to dig a hole to hide it is buried. Now I would not report a "buried" cache if it is done in a tasteful way without any noticeable damage done to the surrounding area. Let your conscience be your guide.
  5. I am also a crazy metal detectorist. I love treasure hunting. I could talk for hours with total strangers about treasure. But I would not hide a cache that deliberately mentioned detecting for coins. You will end up with people just digging around the cache trying to find the buried treasure. I do use my detector when I am hunting caches in the snow. I just read the descriptions and look for ammo cans or any containers that are metal. Here is a log for a cache that was buried about 2' under snow and rocks. Mikes Tool Box
  6. I also just got me a new toy. I got a new netbook with MS S&T 2009. It makes urban caching much better. I can also connect my palm pilot and GPSR so I can update caches. I don't have the mobile broadband but I can just hit a wifi hotspot and get what I need. Yes technology is making this hobby interesting in more ways all the time.
  7. We won't point out the grammatical mistakes in your post, OK? This is great stuff. More fodder for my forum study that I happen to be conducting for a class. OK, I am not English major but my post was coherent and understandable. I also understand the need to communicate effectively. So please do point out all my mistakes for me so that I can learn from them. Most people will not be able to name more than one thing I did wrong. So please highlight all the mistakes. I am also highly entertained by the fact that some took this as an attacking post on the OP. Yes it was blunt but not attacking.
  8. I used to have some of those feelings. Then I realized that I don't like to hide that many caches. The ones I have I put some thought into. People are generally entertained by the caches I place. Yes we have people in this area that have over 1000 hides. I don't mind because most of those people have caches that range in difficulty. If they were all hard caches then that would possibly create a problem for new folks. If you have an idea for a really cool cache that would be too close to an active cache then email the owners. If they are approached in a respectful manor and you explained what your plans were I am sure they would work with you. If someone had a great idea for a cache in an area that I had one I would be OK with archiving it. Now they are not going to archive an average cache for a less than average cache so put some thought into it. Yes I do try for the numbers but the quality ones are the ones that stick in my mind. I don't care who hid the caches that I find.
  9. I am going to give you my first experience with my new netbook. Today I went on a short urban caching experience. It was cut even shorter when I didn't have batteries for my hand held and I had to break my planned route to get new batteries. First off I purchased a new Acer Aspire One netbook, Microsoft Streets & Trips with the reciever, a FM transmitter for sending the audio to the car speakers. The netbook is a great size for use in the Jeep. MS S&T made quick work of optimizing my route through the caches. I made sure that I turned off the Auto Re-routing feature as that can be very annoying. You have to convert the .gpx files into a S&T file and I used GPSbabel for that. You can then select an area and add all the points (caches) to the route planner. You can remove or add what you want to the route. It seemed to be very efficient. So far from the first trip I am pleased with this new toy. If anyone has an experience with this set up then please post what you may have encountered that I need to know about. If you have a question then please post those too. HH
  10. Lets look at some facts shall we? You have one find and one hide that never had a find on it. You have posted some questionable threads, the last one was about how to get a cache archived so that you could place your close by. You may question that but it is essentially how it came across to anyone reading it. Now people may have treated you harshly but you are no victim here. You have brought ridicule upon yourself with bad spelling and poor communication skills. They may tell you at school that this is acceptable but take this as a lesson. If you communicate like a elementary student then expect the same treatment. If you do leave then come back when you have matured enough to understand the way that the world rotates. Don't sweat the small stuff, there are plenty of places to hide caches so get out there and find them.
  11. This nano is mine and it seems to please a few folks. Prophet is born It is disguised as a preying mantis egg cast. If you are familiar with the preying mantis then you know what it looks like.
  12. First I don't own a Colorado. Is the GPS memory either full or close to it? Is the waypoint bank full? I am unsure if the waypoints are managed the same way as my 76 but if they are then there is a limited amount of waypoints I can load.
  13. thats not why lol. its becouse titus has constantly haveing to be replaceing it. the staff of the park is pretty good there. they probubly think its trash and throw it away. and the fact that the cache placer dosnt even live here anymore One time replacing the cache does not constitute "constantly". Titus has one log stating that they replaced the container and that was in September 2008, a mere 5 months ago. There was one find after that then your flurry of SBA logs. WTF. It would appear that you two have found a better hiding spot and now are trying to muscle out another cache. I guess that if I wanted a certain area I could steal the caches in the area then log SBA logs and try to kick them out. Sorry but your story sounds a bit fishy. When you feel a cache should be archived you have to go through the motions. It is completely unfair to Log SBA after one other person has a DNF. Every cacher out there has thought they looked everyplace only to discover they just didn't spot the cache. Your desire to archive this cache is suspicious since you and your partner are the only ones logging that it is missing, along with a claim of replacing the old cache. I also don't like it when it takes several months to archive a cache that is missing but the only witnesses that the cache is missing is you.
  14. Yes Mac Hammer it can be hard when you make some cammo that has to be in a certain spot for the effect. When it gets moved it ruins the whole cache. I noticed that people will sometimes move it if they feel it may be unsafe in the location you chose or if the magnets have come off. I am sure that your efforts are enjoyed by the quality cachers that find your caches.
  15. I don't like the idea of encouraging hides any more than what is now taking place. I find plenty of magnetic nanos with little thought put in the cache. I only have 5 active caches and I do get compliments on them all. They are close to my house but there are no normal magnetic nanos. The only magnetic micro I own is a puzzle that tells a story of the place you are going to visit. Three of my other caches are magnetic nanos but they are disguised so that they are fun caches to find. I love to come up with camo that is fun for people when they find the cache. The hides are not particularly difficult but they are different and I put time into making them. I love to read the logs on my caches. I sometimes pull them up and read them all. I know kinda goofy. BlueDamsel always writes good logs. I enjoy reading them when I get the chance, even when I am getting teased cause I cant find the 1X1.
  16. Caching as a group helps. So does caching with kids. You can do crazy stuff with kids. I also don't feel right at some caches. If its too uncomfortable to do alone I wait till I have a kid or two with me. Even some caches are too uncomfortable with that situation. I may try to do some of those with a larger group some day. But if not then too bad.
  17. Another advantage to using a steel hanger is the fact that a magnet will help to remove the log. I love it when someone does something like this to their logs. I just use the magnet in the nano to remove the log.
  18. I love the double post. Its like a tasting your lunch the second time. **Edit for timeout double post**
  19. How do we know that his science project was not to see how long before the bomb squad blew it up? It may have also contained some type of device to measure the amount of pressure the container could take before it failed. OK, maybe not. It was possibly a weather station.
  20. My frustration is often times not finding the caches. Some of these are supposedly easy caches. I have never really cached with anyone else so everything I learned was from the internet or school of hard knocks. I have been thinking of hiding a series of UrbanGEO 101. This series would have text book urban hides along with pictures of the caches in their location. I know that it sounds boring to the old hats but I am sure it would help many new cachers. It would be a nice series to send new people on. You could tell someone what they are looking for but often times pictures tell the whole story. Then people will also have the experience of finding these types of hides. Many people try to find their first cache and its is almost certainly a micro close to home. When they are unsuccessful they do not write a DNF they just disappear. Micro hides were my nemesis when I started. Now I find them entertaining for the most part. Some people have a real gift for making camo. I have made a few caches with fun camo lately, many people get a kick out of them.
  21. LPS or LPC= Lamp post skirt or Lamp post cache. Often times these are hidden under the skirt on lamp posts in parking lots. Sometimes the cache will be disguised as blank panel on the light post. Those are easy to spot as they are often times not the right color and you can move them cause they are magneted onto the post. Nano Caches are about the size of your pinky finger from the last joint to the tip. Often times they are black and hold a very small log. They can also be small plastic centrifuge vials often times they will fit in small holes on street sign posts. Bison tubes were mentioned. The bison tube is marketed as a keychain pill holder. They are the size of your pinky from the second joint to the tip. All of these can be camoed very well. Read the previous logs and the hints before hand so you can have a bit of warning of what you are looking for. For some reason I have the worse time trying to find the small size caches. The decon containers are about the worse. So everyone has days they can't find much. Good luck. Happy caching.
  22. I try to carry some logs and baggies. I have replaced many logs even the occasional nano with a full log. One thing I have noticed is that many people will not put in their online log that the log is full, or at least close to full. If the cache is a regular then you can just drop an additional log into the cache. If it is a small or micro then I take the log with me. I then scan the log into my computer and post it as a picture on the cache page. I also do the same with my own caches. Then you can see who has been signing the log. Oh wait that's another thread. I have plenty of baggies and I carry a huge box of golf pencils. If the cache needs any of these supplies then I leave them. I do it out of courtesy and my desire to make things a bit better for the next guy. No its not your responsibility to replace logs or do anything courteous. It's also not your responsibility to hold the door open for a lady. So its your decision.
  23. I have 6 children with 1 more on the way. I definatly have at least one caching kid. She was actually the one that always cried EVERYTIME we went caching when I first started. I made a cool DVD that gets placed in regular sized caches. The DVD has me and some of my kids doing about 7 or 8 caches. The movie is about 15 minutes long and has some pretty funny moments and when they happen to you, you will ROTFLYAO. I don't force any kids to go along, if they want to spend the day with Dad then they get in the Jeep. I of course spoil whoever comes along cause KIDS ARE THE BEST GEOTOOLS AROUND. When you have to get a LPS cache you will be glad they came along. You can lift the LPS and let the kid make a quick grab without being noticed. Sometimes you have to throw them over the fence to get a cache that has been unceremoniously knocked from its hidey hole. Oh and you can get away with crazy things when you are with a kid. When there is a nano hidden under a picnic table its much less suspicious when you are with a child. So all around kids and caching go hand in hand. I would much rather go with a kid than anyone else. *LPS = Lamp Post Skirt
  24. I always love it when they refer to caches as "GPS Devices". It sounds as if the caches are tracked by people with the GPS Tracking Devices. You just want to say "Hey stupid, It's Tupperware." I guess that "Tupperware Scrambles Federal CERT Team" Doesn't sound as good as GPS Devices. I wish they would refer to caches as game pieces much the same as the shoe in monopoly should trigger a school to shut down. We need to reserve that kind of response for when Sally shares an aspirin with a classmate. [Edited to remove potty language.]
  25. I would like to add one thing. I recently made a cache that received a response that I didn't expect. I had to modify the cache page and the container. Some folks will find it right away and other folks fell for a dummy cache that was really just a part of the deception. I also felt it necessary to increase the difficulty because of the people who were logging "found it" but never logged their name in the cache. Here is a link to that cache. GC1M18V. Just be prepared to modify the cache so that you get the response you want. To me I don't make caches to get DNF logs as the goal. I make caches that will hopefully get good comments from those who are inclined to make good comments.
