  1. Hallo MetroNomad, from my research on the Internet I believe that the satellite -39- will cover the whole of Africa. See this link about the WAAS I do hope it was not me that made that remark last year, I don't believe the rate of progress, sometimes... Could be in experimental/testing phase, but that does not matter for me. I am going the WAAS route from here.
  2. @Teamnut I don't think there is any connection with the map, but then I have been proven wrong before. With the map installed are you maybe also locked to road for auto-routing/navigation purposes. Set the prompt to select for OFF-Road or ON-Road. Calibrate the compass and follow it till it starts to wander - revert direction; - then check the coordinates for reference and get them spot on!
  3. The Cache Owner makes the call. You will need to convince him/her that you found the real - type specific 35 mm film container. Not all are black anyway.

    Baboons?

    Voertsek! werk gewoonlik...
  5. After being alerted by GlobalRat and Cape_Gypsy about their GPS'r receiving WAAS signals; I confirmed the availability of WAAS through the Satellite number 39 over the Kongo sending out WAAS signals. My EPE on the 60CSx dropped to an unbelievable low of 1 (one) meter.
  6. Wonderlike nuus daardie GlobalRat. I also used to keep my WAAS OFF and after reading your post and that of Cape_Gypsy I switched it ON and I could not stop dancing of joy! WAAS is enabled through that satellite Number 39 - the Inmarsat IOR-W (III-F5)(Indian Ocean Region West) (PRN 126; ID 39) located over the Kongo. My Estimated Accuracy on the 60CSx is 1 (one) meter!!!!! Never thought we will see WAAS in South Africa. I request all Geocachers to go and average their caches coordinates again with WAAS enabled to make it easier for me to find. Thanks again GlobalRat and Cape_Gypsy for spotting that huge announcement for us.
  7. Hi BJSwart, don't let the calibration issue fret you. Calibrate it every time you get out of your vehicle as part of your normal procedure to go Geocaching, like taking a waypoint of the vehicle to return to. The smart way to calibrate is to turn the GPS'r in your hands, not the "Drunken Bee Dance." Sure, it bugs some people; but see it in the same light as switching OFF your vehicle's engine.

    Baboons?

How do you make the baboons notice the skats? How do you get the Lion to deposit skats in baggie?

    Baboons?

Thanks for that tip, better remember to use my "Kierie" like a rifle for baboons if needed.
  10. Wait! You do have the best available yet, the 60CSx.
  11. My advice is to take the unit back to the dealer with proof of purchase and ask them to sort it out.
  12. Hi Pyropete, I use Mapsource and save the file as dot-gpx format, then using POI Loader you can load unlimited waypoints to GPS'r.
  13. GlobalRat is correct in that previously you were allowed two unlock keys to Garmin Maps. Could be that it still apply to Europe maps. But in the USA since last year and also for SA (Garmap - even longer) that ruling has been changed and only "One Map Licence per GPS'r" applies.

    Baboons?

Correct, a slingshot, and in America they make the finest shot for use with the slingshots, glass, lead or practice rubber projectiles. Impossible almost to source here in South Africa, that is why the marbles are our substitute.

Wise decision, always carry Pepper Spray when you expect bobbejane.
  18. Looking forward to meeting you at a later stage DavidMac, will ask a top notch hider to plant a cache for you, to meet your skill level in the meantime.
  19. I could not agree more.
  20. Only if you had a real pen to sign the log.
  21. And what a blast we had to find your "Twin Cache" RedGlobe. Totally involving and because of the inter-active nature of it a absolute new twist in experience!
  22. WAAS-like stations in South Africa is not available to our consumer GPS'r. They are for high end paying customers. Here is a quote from Trignet: " Hi Johan,Currently there are 44 stations within the TrigNet network of which 34 are realtime stations. These stations form part of the DGPS network of South Africa. The DGPS network is base on a network solution and is not a WAAS network. Users can receive corrections via the Internet by using the NTRIP protocol. The service is free to all users and if a user can connect to the Internet he/she can receive the DGPS corrections. If you are interested in receiving these corrections I would suggest that you contact your receivers vendor in SA to assist you setting you receiver up to receive the DGPS corrections. Please feel free to contact me if you need more info.Regards Stephan KochControl Industrial TechnicianDirectorate: Survey ServicesT: +27 (0)21 658 4362F: +27 (0)21 658 4357" as could be found from this link: Link on WAAS. Bottom line: No WAAS yet, probably ever...
