  5. Refreshed the page for over an hour and still not able to get the order information. It was only after I came to the forums and hit the link in this topic that I was able to get to the order information. Got my order in, but don't know what I have.

  12. From west to east: Seattle, WA, good Portland, OR, great (especially including the Willamette Stone) Las Vegas, NV - poor in the city (too much new construction), great outside of the city (Hoover Dam, Jean to Nipton, CA/NV border monuments) Phoenix, AZ - so so (just like Vegas; too much new construction) Flagstaff, AZ - great Denver, CO - good Cleveland, OH - good Washington, DC - Awesome (can't beat the history, lots of great marks) If I had one new place to go, it would be DC. However, New York intrigues me. I never thought I would want to go there except to see the Museum of Natural History, and perhaps take in a play or two. As someone who grew up in a small town, I get a little antsy when I get into cities, and much prefer those nice strings of benchmarks along a lone country road. With the good benchmark hunting in New York, I would be inclined to give it a try.
  13. Nice looking coin. Hope to be able to make the meeting!
  14. What a fantastic hunt! Hope to make it there someday.
  15. 1 LE and 2 regulars for me please. Did the Tunnel of Light, but missed the tunnel!
  16. Bucky & I are ready to go! I've been working out of Meeker Colorado the past 5 months, and between the cold, snow, and cabin fever, I'm champing at the bit to go on some benchmark hunts. A week ago I was getting excited! The snow was melting, the temps were in the 50s, and the snow was disappearing from next to the roads. Perfect for those nice strings of benchmarks that are out there. Now there's 6" of snow on the ground with more expected each day for the next 6 days. Oh well, thats why the contest lasts for 4 months!!
  17. Get to know what the witness posts look like in your area. Witness Post? What's that?? A witness post is sometimes located near the benchmark, and is used to help find the mark. Check the data sheet for the distance and direction from the witness post that the mark might be. Most new NGS witness posts are orange carsonite, and will have a NOAA sticker affixed to the front. You will need some practice to tell these apart from the orange carsonite posts that are placed to warn people about underground cables and phone lines (you certainly don't want to probe here!). The older witness posts were white metal signs attached to a t-post.
  18. Great set of photos, Papa Bear. These will help alot of people!
  19. Wow! I just noticed this on the Benchmark Page. Benchmark Hunters, you ROCK!!
  20. Bucky might want one. But I'd like 5 please!!
  21. Hooray!! Got in just in the nick of time to get 5 bronzes. Missed out on the golds & silvers, but thats ok. Thanks!
  22. I'm currently working on a several months project in the mountains of Colorado, so would not likely be able to come to a get-together. However, I know what I would be interested in were I to be there. Searching for a couple more marks with other benchmark hunters may be fun, but nothing like meeting with the NGS folks and hearing some of the history of the marks themselves. If the meeting is going to be held in the Washington D.C. area, I would be interested in hearing some of the history of the Jefferson Pier or the Zero Milestone. Maybe something about the original survey of DC itself. If a search for marks is really wanted, how about contacting a congressional member about a tour through the Capital building (not sure what the status is of tours through here, so this may just be a fantasy)? Regardless, I guess I feel that if people are going to make the effort to get together, then it is the people who are important. I can look for benchmarks any time. Meeting other people who also enjoy it would be why I would come.
  23. LE coins are sold out, but I would like to be put on a waiting list, if any more come to light. Thanks!!
