  1. My dog, Hugs, found this little guy on our way to GCJM9T a few days ago at Hamlin Beach State Park in NY. I think it is some type of garter snake (checkered?) but I have no idea.
  2. upinyabees or just "upinya" but that is kinda gross.. so I guess not.. everyone calls him "duane" so that would be a good choice as well.. or something totally different like.. CandysMan or ChiDog
  3. I have meri plat w/ direct route.
  4. Woohoo, way to go!!!!!! Now for 500 before the NYGO State picnic in August! You can do it!
  5. I am looking to buy my first ever palm (woohoo!) I would like to spend about 100 to 125 (I will buy from ebay) or so on the unit and some more on accesories that it might not come with.. I will mainly be using this for geocaching, but also for keeping dates and notes for work. I have read a bunch of posts as well as reviews. I have basically decided on the Palm Zire 71 (zire 72 doesnt connect to gps?)or Palm m515. I travel from time to time so it would be nice to have gpx files on hand that I can upload to my GPS as I travel from place to place. I don't really need to use it for navigation (thats what my gps is for) but mainly want to go paperless/laptopless. Any thoughts that can help me narrow my option down to 1 would be appreciated!
  6. I looked at the webpage and see the cache your bug is supposedly in has only had 2 other visitors since it was placed there. I think you should post a note (not a find) on the cache page and say something like "will the next person who finds this cache please look for my travel bug. If it is in there please move it to another cache. If it is not there, please let me know" something like that. Sometimes bugs get in caches that don't get visited alot and it stinks to have to wait and wait. If it is in there I am sure it will get moved eventually.
  7. I know of two different people around here who left their GPS's at a cache site and the next to find returned it to them.. I think that's pretty nice to be part of a sport where the majority of people are still honest. I also hosted an event in the winter where regular people could come try geocaching, and I had local cachers come and leave their gps on the demo table and come back and get them at the end of the day! I hope this friendliness and trust doesn't change, but it only takes one bad apple to ruin the bushel...
  8. or if you can get the address of something nearby the lake (resort, hotel, relatives house, etc..) you can run a search using the zipcode.
  9. Same page is 10 film canisters for $2. Not that I am advocating someone hiding them all as micros, these are great for CITO containers though. Great site, NFA...thanks for the link. You don't need to pay for film cans! Go to just about any local film store, wal mart, sams club, really anywhere they develop film. Ask for them.. If they look at you funny explaing about CITO (enviromental project) and they should give them to you. I got about 800 from Sam's Club a few months ago!
  10. Saturday, 26 June 2004: Pub Night in Egypt (near Fairport, NY) Wednesday, 14 July 2004: GPS-O Irondequoit Bay Park (Rochester, NY)
  11. They are black, I recognize the photo from online store Spruce Mountain Surplus. It's just a bad photo. [Edited to remove image]
  12. Well it would be a 5 or 6 hour drive for me. I like the idea of a 2 day event, or even a day and a half (ie leave sunday afternoon). The choice of camping or hotels sounds great, especially depending on the weather. I don't think you really need to plan for anything other than caching. Except for maybe an event caching game (yay). If people want to do other things, they will. As far as food, for a two day event you won't really want a "potluck" style on the second day as there usually isnt anything to refridgerate leftovers etc.. Not very sanitary. I have been to a 2 day event, and what do you really need to do besides caching? Caching, caching, caching! They did morning breakfast on your own, potluck lunch, dinner on your own, and next day on your own. That worked well, and no one wanted to eat second day potluck leftovers anyway.
  13. NYGO won't be purchasing any insurance at all. It cannot afford thousands of dollars in insurance policies. But don't you think it is a good piece of information to have when/if we sit down with the DEC eventually? The idea was to get a "quote" not to actually purchase anything.
  14. This map supposedly show the areas where the cicadas will emerge. Taken from this website.
  15. Durand Eastman is really hilly. There are a couple tough caches there, but there are also a few simple ones too. I reccomend Mendon Ponds myself, never having been to North Ponds. Also you could ask on the New York Geocaching Org website forums
  16. You dont need to know the name of the TB to log it. You can go to the travel bug page and enter the serial number found on the tag into the box in the top right. That will bring up the TB page. I think what he meant was if he wanted to put in the cache log which TB he picked up, he'd want to know the name. At least, that's the case with me. I usually write my log, then grab the bug from the page, so I never know the bug's name when I'm writing my log.
  17. On the Egnix stats. It was placed today though! I knew the reason the one hadn't moved yet and wasn't upset about it, sorry if you construed my post that way.
  18. of my two bugs, one is still sitting on the starting line, and the other (my mom's) has made it to its third state.
