  1. I'll be coming from Indiana next week, and will have all of Thursday afternoon to myself and would like to find some great caches. I'd like to find some that are off the beaten path and maybe offer some new landscape for me (I'm used to corn fields and bean fields, so it won't take much to entertain me). Can anyone recommend some caches that offer some different scenery than a typical urban cache? I'd be willing to go about an hour out of town. I'm staying in Tempe if that helps. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. This is my first time out to AZ.
  2. I'm the same with carabiners. I always trade for em, don't really use em, and am very reluctant to get rid of them. Weird.
  3. Where a gas mask and goggles, and use your GPSr as a 'radiation tester'. THose muggles will be gone in no time. This also works great with the orange vest and hard hat.
  4. If everything is gone, try formating your SD card and then reload it. And how do I do that? Just delete all info via windows explorer?
  5. My PN-20 randomly lost all of its information-including my personal info, and all the geocaches I had loaded into it. Now each time I turn it on and go the map page, it locks up without even showing me the map. Only way to get out of it is to take out the batteries. I tried re-loading the maps with the TOPO cd, but still nothing works. I question that this wasn't caused by walking through one of those security check points at a Library (you know those 5' tall scanners that scan for library book chips, kinda like a metal detector). I wonder if 1.) this is just a freak occurence to my PN-20, or if 2.) the library scanners really wiped it clean and messed it up forever? Should I have known not to walk through these things with my GPSr? Anyone else ever had this issue?
  6. A while ago I came across a list of top 10 caches based on number of finds on this site (or maybe somewhere else?). After searching for it again, I can't seem to find it. Does anyone know where I can find this information?
  7. Alas, success!!! Thank you all for the help. This was a lot easier than I was making it out to be. Thanks again~
  8. OK, I just updated to the newest versions, and when I transfer the GPX file into Topo 7, I can see that the hint/cache size is on there. I transfer it to the unit, and now I can't seem to see it in the Waypoint description? I can see the first line of text, but nothing else. This is actually less than I was able to see before. I know I'm being dumb and missing something obvious. If I go to Menu/Waypoints, and select the cache, I can read it in the 'Comments' section, but can't read it all? If I press ENTER when it is highlighted, it takes me to the text screen where I can modify all the text, but not read the rest of it. I am trying to use GC1FVVR if that helps. I feel clueless right now
  9. I just started loading .gpx files onto my PN-20 (just became a premium member yesterday). The description is being cut off (character limitation maybe?), and it is not giving me the hint or the size of the cache. It gives me who placed it, the D/T, and part of the cache description. I was under the assumption that I would be able to get the HINT, cache size, and some previous logs on the unit as well. Was I wrong in this assumption, or am I just missing something obvious?
  10. I just started transferring .gpx files from a pocket query into my PN-20. I was successful in transferring all of the files, and can access them on my GPSr. But it cuts off the cache description about halfway through (character limitation perhaps?). And it also does not have the HINT, at least anywhere that I can find it. Am I doing something wrong within the pocket query that it is not allowing all of the information to be sent?
  11. I just upgraded my GPSr to the PN-20 in hopes of being able to go paperless caching. I figured out how to download the .LOC file and transfer it to my unit, but all that gets transferred is the cache name and the coordinates. I was under the assumption that it would copy the cache description and previous logs. If I upgrade my membership (which I plan on doing anyway), will all of this information be transferred to the .LOC file, or am I just missing something obvious?
  12. I haven't bought a PN-20 yet, but I'm almost certain that is the route I am going to upgrade to. My question is, how easy is it to download new geocaches into the unit? Does it hook up to the computer via cable and the caches are automatically downloaded? And by 'true paperless', what all will it hold? Cache description/logs/hints etc? I'm really not sure on what I'm getting into. I currently am using a Magellan Explorist 100 (yes, the PN-20 is a BIG upgrade), and I have to manually enter each cache prior to going out and looking for it. (hence the reason for upgrading) So how much easier will it be if I get the PN-20? Any experienced guidance would be greatful. Thanks in advance.~
  13. How is this any better than a Magellan Explorist 500? I'm kinda leaning towards the Magellan because I have the 100 and I'm so used to it and like it. The 500 has a rechargeable battery too, which is a plus. But the Venture is getting great reviews. Is there something better with the Etrex than the Magellan that I don't know about?
  14. I have a Magellan Explorist 100 that I have used for the last 2 years. This is my first GPSr, and I'm ready to upgrade. I currently am a paperless cacher, but that involves manually adding the coordinates and any hints I can fit into the character limitation text box in the unit. Needless to say I am ready for a new one. My question is, what is a good GPSr that I can download the caches straight to the unit without having to manually input it myself? Or does one even exist? I'm imagining one that I can connect to my PC, copy over the caches I want to search for, then go find them, with all of the information stored in my GPSr already. It is currently taking me around 30 minutes just to add all the coordinates. This is taking too much time away from caching and also eating my battery life. Keep in mind I'd like to go as cheap as possible, but I'm not even sure if there is one that will do what I'm wanting to. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance~
  15. Not necessarily other forums, but other sites either FOR caching, or ABOUT caching. What you've posted so far is great. I'm interested in just about everything caching-related. Thanks~
  16. Does anyone know of any other geocaching web sites they visit? I'm looking for something different to spend some time at. All I currently have is this and geocaching.com. Any and all sites will be greatly appreciated.
