  1. This is just the thing I was looking for! A few months ago, my click stick died on my E-trex Vista. I am very glad I had the extended warranty from Best Buy. The unit was two years old, at least. They started out trying to replace it with a Legend, but I insisted that the Legend was not a comperable \ product to my Vista. They then offered a Legend C, but wanted and additonal $50. I decided to go ahead with this, but their computer system traded even. A free upgrade from an old Vista, to a New Legend C. I was very happy until I tried to use easy GPS to move waypoints around. and found that it did not like my Legend C/ USB. I will have to try this.
  2. I recently upgraded my membership, and have been using the procedure described here:Geocacher-U This uses a program called GPX-spinner, to convert the Personal Query, and Plucker to convert this result to a format usable on the palm. I am using a palm, and am very happy. I load all the area caches into my palm and my gps'r. If I have my GPS'r, my palm, and a bit of free time, I am ready to go.
  3. Just a bit of support here. I think this is a great Idea, and I don't know Morse code. Good luck.
  4. Found these while looking for some stuff for a friend: from the clearance section of hot topic
  5. There is one annoyance I notice while using NiMH batteries. I have an etrex-vista. When running on my rechargables, if I turn on the backlight, I get a really irritating flicker of the l.c.d. display. I am supposing the NIMHs, do not supply enough current. I still use these in the unit, and enjoy the reduced cost, and environmental benefit of using these rechargeables.
  6. I would add that the USFS, NPS, and the BLM, use "brass caps" to identify caves. These usually have the controlling entity cast into the outer ring, and the cave name or possibly an identification number, hand stamped into a space towards the center. These are found just outside the entrance, or just inside, usually in a very conspicuous location., I have not seen these used inside of caves for survey purposes, but it is possible.
  7. I tried Babelfish here and recieved-"the fish of my mother is happy C to see you" Surely there is a way to tell us what this means, after all, if it is really bad, think of all the poor French and Canadian children who may read this in the forum. I am sure there are lots of them Please: Think of the children The previous is closed captioned for the humor impaired perhaps me
  8. Uhm... Hi, My name is texcaver, and I am a geocacher. I am not an addict, but the judge ordered me to come to this meeting anyway. Here will you sign my card.
  9. Hey, don't MOD me.... if ya do, BANG! ROFLMAO!!!!!!! You going to send your cat to pop a cap in someone? Chewbacca and Yodas love child
  10. You are kidding right? Did you read the same one, I did, Cause, yes, I like it. If you dont like it, why gritch-n-moan? Of course I've read them. Fact is that the points I covered are valid criticisms -- not only for this particular effort but would be valid for anything else attempted along the same lines. Is there some reason you couldn't address the issues? Right. *yawn* I did not feel there was enough merit to your claims to bother with a line by line disection. THIS would be stupid, and a waste of time. 1. I read both issues, and I enjoyed them. I think a specific webpage with accounts of individuals experiences with new and interesting caches, as a superior way of presenting this type of detailed information. I Prefer this to a lengthy post in the forums. It leaves room for individual creativity in the layout, and presentation of photos, and links. 2. I barely noticed the ads on the page, that is I chose to ignore them, as they are irrelevant to me. "I suggested it before: Any geocaching magazine should not contain advertisements." Why? The few magazines which I have seen which have NO advertising, chose to do so because of a possible conflict of interest. Such as a magazine dedicated to product reviews. They chose to do this in order to avoid any percieved influence by advertisers. 3. "This forum is far fresher and provides instant discussion than any such magazine." I am sure we can discuss anything geocaching related included from such a magazine in this forum. I suppose you will not criticize them for grammatical errors. 4. "Finally there's always the possibility that endless magazines will start being produced" Perhaps so, IF I find them interesting I will read them unless I decide they are not worth my time. Again, I enjoyed the accounts of the specific caches they covered. I also particularly enjoyed Criminals humor segment in both issues. How does anyone argue a substantive claim such as this: "Any way it just sounds rather stupid." If you don't like it, why read it, and why waste your time and mine in this forum complaining about it. If you have any meaningfull contribution to ways of improving the quality of this publication, I am sure the publishers would love to hear from you. In fact that would seem the preferred way of adressing issues such as this.

  13. When caching in Sweden... Be afraid, Be VERY afraid
  14. While looking up Benchmarks in my area, the zipcode search, works as expected, however when I search by designation, I get "No results found". I even tried copying a designation found in a zipcode search, and the result was the same. Anyone else experience this? Example:DP0678 zip-79350
  15. Nevermind, found it through a link from Zhanna Here is a link:U.S. Geological Survey's Earth Science Corps Edit Some folks might find this usefull also: The National Map Corps GPS Volunteer Guide
  16. Hey Geo Trailblazer: I have been looking around the National Map Corps website. But, I was wondering if you have a link directly to information about volunteering to do your quadrange. I did a search on the USGS site, but found nothing related. This sounds interesting, but I would like to read more about it before bothering the office staff with an e-mail inquiry. Thanks for what you have already provided!! "UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY MID-CONTINENT MAPPING CENTER 1400 INDEPENDENCE ROAD ROLLA,MISSOURI 65401 THE NATIONAL MAP CORPS national map corps This program is being operated by a very small staff. They intend to respond to all inquires and provide the needed information as soon as possible. If you have questions or need anything, please write to MS 925 or on the internet at escorps@usgs.gov "

  18. I have been looking around in the forums for creative cache ideas, and the name Otis Pug keeps coming up, this is what sparked my interest. this thread for example: See this other thread Just look around in some of the logs from his caches: Pug Caches here is an interesting reponse, i recieved regarding one inquiry: " ...He is also very mysterious. Never comes to gatherings. No one really knows who he is. Some of us think he is a well know fellow cacher (name deleted), just being schitzo. Still fun." There is just something in the cache descriptions, and logs, which strikes a chord with me. edit as an adendum, of the 62 caches shown on his profile, only 2 are still active, he archived all the others on or around Oct.15/03
  19. As an individual in Texas, without the means to travel to California, I am intrigued with the tales I read on the forums of Otis Pug. Also I marvel at the responses to this individuals now archived caches. It is clear, "The Pug'' made quite an impression on the hapless cachers who fell prey to the devious nature of many of said caches. The Point I would really appreciate some enlightement into the nature of the caches placed by this individual. Examples would be appreciated, and in order to avoid spoiling it for people in the area eligible to access the remaining caches, (archived or not), I would welcom responses directly to me. At your discretion. The primary intention is not to directly copy the caches, but rather to use them as a point of inspiration, in order to make a contribution to the quality of the caches in my area. Some of which are rather sly. Thanks in advance for your informed responses. Also feel free to regale us with tales of your pug experiences.
  20. I wonder how many bags are stuck right now like this bugWoody in this cache Miller Time
