  1. I would have posted a DNF, missing or not the cache was not found. I had a cache years ago that people had trouble finding. I even had trouble finding it when checking on it. Twice I replaced my cache because I could not find. Then some post that they found three of them. Some times the camo is just too good
  2. there is a cacher from Denmark that has been logging finds in the Sacramento area, the problem the cacher in question has not signed the logs in the caches that I own that he/she claims to have found. So I have been deleting the logs, all but one that is. I might get in trouble for mentioning the name but then if some wants to search finds in Sacramento for a log mentioning how much it was raining (on a date in which no rainfall was recorded) well that I can not help ;-)
  3. vantage point! be careful of what you ask for, I have vantage point and I never used it.
  4. maybe some day they will come up with a fix for the triton 500, I still have one on the box. Bought two boy was that a dumb move
  5. this is an interesting thread. I had to step away from doing lots of geocaching when I went back to school 5 years ago, now that I am done with school I am caching a lot again. I can not go a week without finding at least one cache that violates the guide lines. Buried, screwed into private property, glue to park benches and so on. I guess a large number of people that hide caches just do not read the guidelines. Now if some one reports an illegal cache they will encounter all kinds off Cr#p form other cachers
  6. you are correct, buried caches are not allowed
  7. You might also post a SBA, that may get more attention
  8. You're from Vegas - they know you've got the big bucks! Having found some of his evil little caches I can testify he is not from Vegas. Il mio nome è Johnny Vegas Sono da Sacramento
  9. It seems like the person replacing the cache is usually the one that gets questioned by the police and accused of creating the bomb scare. I think I would rather use some discretion. It's not just the threat of the cache getting muggled, which really doesn't concern me if it's a stupid hide, but about how I personally am perceived by those that are observing me. I'm pretty sure that they don't believe that the local lamp post cover inspector wears shorts, flip flops and a floppy hat. They just see me putting something under the cover and leaving. It seems that I have found 748 caches, or 12% of my finds, with the Stealth Required attribute. I don't ever recall actually being stealthy. For urban caches, I drive up and I either feel comfortable going for it, or not. there are two types of hides that I will not do 1) any cache in Ivy they just are not worth the effort. 2) Any cache on or within 20 feet of playground equipment, just not worth the stares being a single male cacher,m these are just stupid hides.
  10. You're from Vegas - they know you've got the big bucks! No, lots of people in Vegas use to have money
  11. why am I as a premium member getting adds for Garmin products when I log onto the forums.
  12. I used all kinds of things to be stealthy in past years, now I just look for the cache and ignore people around me. I wonder when I am looking for a cache in which the CO has place a Nano in an area full of people and then includes "use stealth" but offer no hint! Well if a CO wants me to use stealth there better be a hint so that I can find the cache and get out without being spotted.
  13. Expensive equipment? Any smartphone with a FREE app can read QR codes and since my smartphone is cheaper than a lot of GPSr's out there not sure why you think there is expensive equipment involved. this is not true, with a smart phone you are paying a monthly fee to use the phone, with a real GPS which can be purchase for a little over $100.00 there is no monthly fee. Sure the app may be free but the use of the phone is not free maybe QR code caches can be there own category so that those that think they are stupid like chirp and where I go caches can just not download them.

  15. I can not take RhizomicSearcher seriously. Reading the His/Her profile I see one logged find in an area of California that is filled with non premium caches. I refuse to believe that a person would only look for premium caches when there are plenty on non premium caches to be found.
  16. I have set up a couple of night caches with fire tacks, I use a very strong flash light and space the reflectors at the maximum distance for use with a strong flashlight (I use a dive light) some people have had problems with lower powered lights. I wish more people would hide night caches they are a lot of fun to do (at night)
  17. this is not the case, what is not expensive to one person is expensive to another person. And photographing a QR code then going home to decode it is not cheap, and if there are 6 or 7 stages it is even more expensive. Just because something can be done does not mean it is a good idea
  18. I would think not, not everyone has the ability to read a QR code
  19. if some one tried to fotolog one of my caches I would delete the log. I have deleted logs in the past when people have said "I found what looks like it may have been part of a cache" Some one has posted a SBA which is the best way to deal with a CO that is no longer active, I post a SBA for the same reason a few weeks ago
  20. I was working for a GPS dealer in the early year of consumer GPS. Selling the old Magellan that was the first consumer model. When geocaching started to catch on I took one of the store demos, a yellow Garmin e-trex and found maybe two caches in a two day period, there were not many around then. In those days there was no such thing as a GPS with a map, I get a kick at it when people say you must have a GPS with a map to find a cache Ha! I got so into caching that the company I was working for made be the GPS buyer and I started running geocaching seminars for the public on some days 60 people would show up. The hard part was knowing how to use each model that the stored carried from Garmin, Magellan and Lowrance. I did take a bit of a break to go back to school but now I am back geocaching every day.
  21. getting started, Get a something like a low priced Garmin e-trex or Magellan 310. Many cachers lose interest after a few months to a year. A basic gps will work just fine when starting out, if you get tired of caching after a while you are not out of a lot of money.
  22. In the past I would try all types of things to avoid being watch, dropping coins on the ground and searching while3 picking them up. Dressing to look like I am on official business liker wearing a hard hat etc. Taking pictures with a pro looking camera. But now I just look and I do not care about being watched. I get a kick out of cachers that hide nano caches in areas with lots of people then mention in the cache use stealth etc. when searching so the cache is not discovered by non cachers. But they do not leave any hint that would help in being un discovered. Ha!
  23. DO NOT USE STICKERS! They suck. They get gummy and glue the pages of the log together. One of the most horrible things you can do to a cache is to use stickers in the logbook. GET A STAMP! They also take up to much room in Nano's and smell micros. What will work better is a small rubber stamp.
  24. That's pretty big of you, keeping another person's trackable because you have a problem with (supposedly) not being able to log a PMO cache -- something that you could actually do if you'd search or even bother to ask. But no, you'd rather just keep the item as a sort of "pay back" as would a spoiled child. this is just the reason I no longer buy travel bugs, all mine have gone missing. That I bought in form of coins etc. for a collection.
