  1. Oh - and to the question... I only own a couple of TBs, but I don't care how long they sit in a cache - so long as they don't vanish.
  2. Some of us place TBs in remote caches because we don't like the thought of being the last to touch a TB before it's last resting place was muggled, and some of us spend more time around remote caches than not. Sometimes, the only caches that are big enough for the TB are remote caches. I've placed TBs in my own and others' remote caches for those very reasons. If I find someone else's remote cache, the TB goes in there. If I happen to be placing a remote cache, it goes in my cache. Difference is, I watch the TBs I've moved to these caches - and if they don't move for a long time, I go move them again myself.
  3. Hi 'yall! I've been trying to learn my way around USAPhotoMaps, and I have a a problem understanding how to load traklogs from my gpsr into the program. I managed to load one tracklog (not the one I was after, BTW), but then every time I try to load another, none of the data comes through. Obviously, I'm doing something wrong. Can anybody here walk me through this?
  4. And that's the bottom line! (Or at least, it SHOULD be)
  5. Is there a GPS unit on the market that will give 300 or more waypoints in one route? -ST
  6. Looking at both of these for the Palm 3. Is one GPS add-on better than the other? -ST
  7. I think the point is that there is a difference between a *noobie* and a noobie who can't or won't read and follow instructions. It's the latter who are the problem. -ST
  8. I've hidden two caches with FTF prizes in them. I consider those a gift. The first finder need not trade for a FTF prize in one of my caches. -ST
  9. An awful lot of dialogue here, when the most important thing to remember is..."It would require that Jeremy go back on his word." There are other ways to deal with the "problems", and I sincerely hope that Jeremy values honor as much as I think he does. -ST
  10. This may be redundant, but... It's been a long while since I listed a new cache, but I was pleasantly surprized to see that my latest (Hardtrigger Walls) was approved before the end of the day I submitted it. Thank you, MT Fellwalker! -ST
  11. Definitely DO NOT get the 300. The 315 will work fine - the other Magellans, I don't know. Be careful with ebay. Things tend to get bid higher than you could pay locally. Wally World sells the Mag315 for $99. -ST
  12. For years and years, I have managed to mask the taste of various plastic canteens by adding a small amount of baking soda to the water. You get an extra benifit of less chance of a sideache while hiking, also. -FreeMe
  13. ckhd - how would anyone know anything to gripe about your tn/ln/dnsl/dnsol......unless, of course, you made a point of posting about it here? Sounds to me like you're protesting too much over nothing - or maybe you shouldn't waste your time reading the forums. Anyway - no one really cares whether you personally sign any logs. Most of us only hope that finds and DNFs are generally logged. Is someone in your area giving you grief over this? If not, then explaining yourself online is a waste of time. It's your game. Play it how you want, so long as it's harmless. -ST
  14. I confess to moving a cache twice. Once, the cache was described as being hidden somewhere on a high rock ledge. I hunted it after a violent storm, and couldn't find it - so I took the short way down and luckily found the container laying out in the open, more than 150' from the cords. I signed the log and placecd the cache as close as made sense to the cords, then I logged it with an explanation and an offer to meet the cache owner and show him exactly where I put it. He never took me up on that offer, and there have been many finds since then. The other time, I found a cache - again, on a rock ledge - but sitting in plain sight from below. I had clearly been used as a rifle target many times. Most of the contents were damaged or destroyed, and the cache was definitely not watrproof anymore. So I replaced it about 10' away in a more protected spot that made a lot of sense - and again I offered to help the owner locate it if necessary. The owner never took me up on it even though it has not been found since. He disabled it instead, though he didn't archive it. I'm still waiting for that email... Anyway - right or wrong, I'd probably do it again under similar circumstances. But I would never move a cache just 'cause I thought of a better (or "more accurate") location.
  15. Thank you, US 5 Camp! Maporama does what I need. Do you know what datum they're using? -ST
  16. Sorry - I didn't make myself clear. What I was looking for was somewhere I could enter an address and get the cords. Mapquest will only accept addresses OR cords. It won't convert. -ST
  17. I've been searching here with no results, so no flames please... Seems to me, that Mapquest used to have a feature for giving the cords for a given address. Now I can't find any such feature, and I need it. Am I just not looking in the right place? Can someone give me another website that does this? -ST
  18. I can't thinkof any that were confirmed missing. I have found one that had been plundered and scattered about, and another that had been used as a rifle target. -ST
  19. Two items that haven't been mentioned here that I have found very useful are a mechanics inspection mirror and a mecahanics extendable magnet. And it helps to have a flashlight that is bright enough to light up dark corners in the daylight. -ST
  20. I disagree. We've seen several multis here that are quite popular. It may be true that newbies avoid multis (or give up without logging a dnf), but I think it depends on the multi. I wish there were more multis. I wish one multi in particular that has been disabled for maintenence would be enabled again (it's been 9 months, already!). In fact - about the only problem I see with multis is that they are a bit of work to maintain. Bring on the multis! -ST
  21. I use my GPSr at work, and will be claiming the deduction. Neener, neener! -ST
  22. In regards to "real" privacy, BTW........ The Motorola T6250s that I have do have a voice scrambling feature that reduces, but doesn't eliminate, the possibility of eavesdroping. So does the RINO 120. I have no idea whether these two are compatable, but at least you can see that the feature is available in the market. -ST
