  1. Here is the campsite. It does not look like I remember the Guard Station, but it has been over 40 years since I was there.
  2. This map was posted about Noon today showing the trailhead. I'm not sure what the schedule was, but from doing that hike before, they should have no trouble making tonight's campsite.
  3. The google earth map in satellite view shows some kind of green stuff on the NW corner and the cache in there. I'm not sure what is there, but that doesn't look like just a flat field. You may have your GPSr in NAD27 and not WGS84. If that is the case, then delete that cache after changing datum to WGS84 and put it back in and try again.
  4. It is also possible that the first one is hanging from a branch of a tree. I doubt it is close to a power pole since the Google Earth view shows it in the trees. Another possibility is that is is covered with either moss of sticks at the base of a tree. I would avoid the second one, if it is that small, until you have more experience. I avoid those most of the time.
  5. First off, the cache is NOT buried. That would be against the guidelines. We don't need people going around digging holes where they think the cache might be. If you could give the GC# of the caches you were looking for, we might be able to help more. Try regular sized caches first with a difficulty of 1 or 1.5 to make things easier for you. Don't think the GPSr will zero out exactly at the cache. Once you get within a few meters, put the GPSr away and start looking for places you might hide something.
  6. I can attest to all of that. Some of us were prepared to get wet, but it never happened. Be sure to follow your track log back out. Luckily for us, several of us had that going for us.
  7. If what you want to do is type in the GC code on the main page, then just click in the box which will then highlight the GC. Click again just after the "C" and there you are. No problem.
  8. This was taken when I was heading toward LtVoSF* Beach cache near the Golden Gate Bridge

I logged three caches today and in the first I made my comments about Brian. The log is here for LtVoSF* Beach. I wish I could have been there today, but I did this in Brian's honor.

I won't be able to respond on Facebook to Tee's request to join, but I will be thinking of you all this afternoon. Brian has crossed my thoughts many times over the last week or so since I heard the news. I can't respond on F'book because I am using my cousin's computer and she is on F'book and I don't want to mess up her use of it by logging her off and logging me in.

As I posted in the WSGA forum, Brian did quite a bit for geocaching and he will be missed. I recall the stories that Criminal mentioned where he would show up for the snow shoe hike, but stay at the trailhead so the hikers had hot food when they returned. He was that kind of a guy.
  12. In a word, No, the owner must give permission for the adoption. The best way to deal with this is submit a Needs Archived log. Once it is archived, you can place another one in that spot.
  13. Great news. There may still be hope for some of mine that have been missing for some years now.
  14. Thanks for sharing your brilliant night caches! It was truly a fun time! Agreed, had a great time. Sometime today, I might find time to log the caches too. For some reason I slept in and much of the day's work has collapsed into fewer hours. Oh well, I had fun. Didn't you read the cache names? NO SLEEPING ALLOWED!

  16. She has her work cut out for herself. Speedy recovery my friend.
  17. As a matter of fact we're staying in Renton at the Holiday Inn so anything within 5-10 miles would be great. Added the Crab Pot and Pike Place Market to our list. Looks like Jimmy Mac's is real close to where we'll be staying, marked that and Izzy's as possibilities. Will keep an eye out for McMenamins locations and added Voodoo Doughnuts as a stop in Portland. Jimmy Mac's is walking distance from the Holiday Inn. Good steaks there as well as the rolls. Expect to throw your peanut shells on the floor. Grab some from the barrel on your way in. I live about 4 miles north of there. Shoot me an email (or PM) when you get in, maybe I can show you around a bit. Ditto. (but for me it's two miles and south...) I'll 'escort' you to a couple of local night caches if you'd like. Cool. There might be a couple of those I haven't done and would love to. Hmmmm...maybe a mini get together in the making? It looks like this will take place Tues the 6th. I'd suggest meeting about 9:30 at the parking co-ords for Nighttime Isn't Just For Sleeping. That should be fine for us. I'll PM you my cell number. I will be there at9:30.
  18. If the container itself goes missing, it will likely be archived. Just to be clear, the container was not taken, just the lid. Lots of folks found the container today.
  19. Also there was an Ape Geocoin permanently attached to the lid, which was the likely reason for taking the lid. They did try to replace the lid today, but it was the wrong size. They will keep trying. See the discussion in the NW forum for the ammo can size. If anybody has one of that size Moun10Bike would love to get one of the right size.
  20. Thanks for the update. I'm glad he will be better.
  21. Some years ago, the surplus store down by where Sears used to be had that size can. I haven't been there in years though. Hopefully the lid is there, just misplaced and forgotten to be replaced.
  22. With all due respect to the dog that wears glasses, the real story was published some time ago in Today's Cacher (RIP). The link to that version is here.
  23. Have a great trip and don't do what I did. On the night of the midnight chocolate extravaganza, I forgot it was going on and when I left the poker table went back to my stateroom and went to bed. See if you can find my favorite totem pole (and you do have to take the bus tour in Ketchikan).
  24. Ketchikan is not very big and walking distance of the ship is mostly tourist shops. I took the bus tour and enjoyed that. Close to the boat is Bin Caching TB Hotel. That was my only find there so I'm not sure what else is available. Juneau was my next stop last year. Do take the tram to the top. I think there is a cache or two up there, but I didn't have them loaded. Jester may be able to help there. For a visit to a church not on the tourist list, try Juneau Coin & Token Reserve. Not too far away is Museum Trading Post. I took the tour to the Mendenhall Glacier. Once again I didn't check for caches there, but there are several. Check around the Mendenhall Glacier Earthcache. Skagway is a small town with lots of visitors. Physical caches downtown are covered with muggles. Camp Skagway No. 1 is a virt in downtown Skagway. I tried a couple of others in town, but there were four ships in port and way too many muggles all over the place. I did take the narrow gauge railroad up to the pass and that was well worth the price. There is a cache up there, but I didn't want to take the chance on missing the bus back to the boat. I didn't get to Tracy Arm so I can't help there. Have a great trip. You will enjoy it.
  25. While not all "must do" caches, this bookmark list has those I enjoyed on that route. Every rest stop has a cache, some good, some not. YMMV. Of those, I would suggest the following I Hate I-5, Covered Bridge Shasta Vista Stumped At The Falls Meet The Sims Don't forget the Original Stash Tribute which is off the freeway a bit, but well worth the trip.
