  1. Hi there, I have reduced the price by $25, still with FREE shipping. Thanks for looking!
  2. Hi everyone, I have a Garmin 60CSx up on eBay if anyone is interested. HERE is the link for reference With the 60Csx it also includes: City Navigator 8 North America US TOPO, Ver. 3.02 RAM suction cup window mount Neoprene case with carbiner clip 1gb sdMicro card with adapter Screen protector It's a "Buy it Now" only auction. FREE shipping in Continental US only Thanks for looking!!
  3. Be careful of the "hard sell". When you order, you may get a call to confirm your order. This is where they try to sell you all kinds of accesories or warranties. I ordered my Garmin from Amazon. Quick shipping and very competitive pricing.
  4. Oh, I have to add to my original post, I was able to get a Sat. lock in the plane to Vegas. Seeing 487 m.p.h. in the speed read out was very cool. The other neat thing was watching the pointer speed across the map. However, for some reason, the altimeter wasn't giving a good reading. May be a calibration issue.
  5. City Navigator 8 Nt is the way to go. Get at least a 1gb card too. So far, just for what we need it for, a 1gb has been fine.
  6. Having the gps for geochaching is fun and all but it really shined when it got put to the real test. We just returned from Vegas and got a chance to put our 60csx/City Navigator through it's paces. I don't have to tell anyone that when you go to a VERY busy city in which you know nothing about and trying to navigate it, can be nerve racking and discombobulating. I was really impressed with the near pinpoint accuracy and flawless directions. It was very cool to see that it seemed to know the nuancess of different roads and highways. Helping us avoid exit only lanes, stay left or right or make a U turn here or there. Not to mention on how to budget with how far away a point of interest is as well as the exact time we will get there for further planning. Need to get to Hoover Dam? Got us to the parking lot Need to get to Lake Mead from Hoover? Took us right there. Need to find the nearest Walmart from Lake Mead? Found one 5 miles away Need to find the nearest park from the Walmart? how about .48 miles from that? How about the nearest gas station from that point? Get us back to the rental center from the gas station? Put is right in front. Not to mention all the other points of interests from the area. Anyone looking at GPS and considering whether or not a worthy investment, it is! Even if you do just a little travelling, it will pay for itself. Maps? Who needs stinking maps! (well, always have a paper one around for general reference)
  7. Garmin does answer emails and usually it's a prompt response. I wrote them twice on two different issues and received prompt replies. I guess it depends on how busy they are.
  8. Great discussion! How about a network of trails. Under Track Log, would I just reopen the saved track log and it will continue that file or is there a way to merge the files?
  9. I'm having a blast in working with my Garmin 60CSX and learning about POIs, Waypoints, tracks, etc. We have a nice park with trails practically outside our backyard. I would like to "map" out those trails and be able to bring it up on Mapsource. I think I use the tracking feature for this. Would that be the proper procedure for this or the better question, how do I set it up to do this? Thanks!
  10. Wow. You can really see a difference in detail. Garmin almost looks cartoonish. Has anyone emailed Garmin with example pics of their Topo US and that of their competitors? Surely they can see they are missing the boat and have lots of room for improvement. GARMIN: MAGELLAN:
  11. Thanks! wow, it really isn't that detailed I am sure this has caused a few flurry of emails to Garmin, no?
  12. Couple of questions on Mapsource Tops US. I know there is a some discontent with the software because of a lack of detail. Through lurking, I learned it's either you like it or you don't. I would love to see an example. We go out west to Western Nevada at least once or twice a year. I was wondering if someone could be so kind to give a "snapshot" pic of Marlette Lake, N39 09.829 W119 54.150. My second question is: Are you able to make hard prints of the maps that you bring up through this software? Thanks!
  13. Hey, I can answer this one now Pocket Queries is your answer. In your account page, look at the right hand side for Pocket Queries. From that page, you can customize your queries. You can then have them delivered right to your email in a zip file. Open it up, pay attention to where you save it. Use a program like GSAK or similiar program to create your database. From there, transfer right to your GPS. Old timers, how did I do for a newbie?
  14. Unfortunately, it did expire. We had to purchase the unit between July and December 31, 2006. We missed out on that one.
  15. Thank you kindly! Found it, read it and had it delivered right to my email.
  16. I have a newbie question regarding loc and gpx files. I think I figured out that loc files contain the coordinates of the cache and gpx contain more specific information to that particular cache. In using GSAK and geocache.com, I realized that I could click on numerous caches in my area and download them in one batch file and open them up. They would auto populate some of the fields, however other fields were blank or missing info unless I downloaded the gpx file. When I do, the rest of the fields would populate. Is there a way to dowload the gpx files en masse? Or if there is another easier method of doing things, I am all ears for listening to other methods or ways of transferring data. Thanks!
  17. Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! I have downloaded gsak and just starting to mess with it and uploaded my first cache site to the unit! Once we get the hang of it, we will definitely check out the geo icons. To Loghome couple: I agree with Zeke. Many retailers do charge MSRP. Frankly, I wonder if they even make a sell on a unit at MSRP. I saw one place on Pricegrabber try to sell for $535!!!! But you do get free shipping. LOL The 60 I got is definitely a new unit from Amazon. Amazon wasn't the cheapest, but long way from the most expensive. Incidently, Amazon has the 76CSX for $366.94 and if you sign up for Prime, you could get it in two days or pay around $3 and have it next day
  18. Now get Topo and you'll be set!!! Just my opinion of course. Thanks! So far, I like it, although I haven't used it much yet. Still getting to know it. Now it's just a question of which Topo to go with.
  19. Just want to say thanks for those who responded to my posts about the Garmin 60CSX. Those replies really helped me to decide. I bit the bullet and got it today @ Amazon for $363.98 delivered and it's next day delivery. I wanted to throw that out there in case anyone is interested in where to look. I also got CN Navigator V8 for $109.99, also at Amazon as well as a 1gb micro. I know that the maps have a little to be desired, but it seems to be a very good unit. I was teetering between Garmin and the new Delorme PN-20, but since it is an unproven product and lacks features, I figured the 60CSX is the best way to go!
  20. I missed the rebate by a week. But they do have a pretty good price going.....
  21. I just saw the fine print about not being able to transfer images. I guess it is what it is. I may try my hand at making some, just to see if I can do it
  22. Amazon doesn't have a bad price........$359 delivered and with Prime, practically next day. I am a Amazon junkie myself. I see they have CN NT V8 for $120.
  23. Good point. I guess it would depend on our needs. Unfortunately, I live in an area of rampant urban sprawl. One minute woods and cornfields, the next, cookie cutter houses packed like sardines and another super walmart shopping plaza. LOL
