  1. You have to wait for your payment to clear in PayPal before that S-XXX.... number will activate your account. It says 4-6 days, but today was like day 10 or 11 for me, and it *just* emailed me to say it was activated.
  2. baloo&bd, I am just cutting and pasting it....sorry, just write "entered to mean trying it out. Hehe, I am too lazy to try and type out the subscription string. I've sent 2 emails to the Groundspeak contact address, but I haven't gotten any responses as of yet.
  3. qeezy, that's odd that yours hasn't kicked in yet...it says that the waiting period is only for payments made with PayPal...today is day 6 of the "4-6" day wait time they have posted on the site for me....with still no luck. Everytime I enter the Subscription code, it says there is no subscription under that number. This is really annoying...I have never had to wait this long for *anything* I've ever bought with Paypal; in fact it usually appears fairly instataneous.... However, there must be something else holding things up if yours still hasn't kicked in and you paid with a CC....
  4. I paid with PayPal on Monday, and I still haven't been able to activate my account. I understand it says that they have to wait for the money to clear or something, but I've actually bought stuff with PayPal elsewhere since (Tues), and had it shipped and recieved today. I wonder why it takes them so long to process the order...never had that before pertaining to payments with PayPal.
  5. I wish we had some....we had a few flakes yesterday, but nothing that stuck. I'm hoping we get at least *some* before the winter is through...
  6. Make sure you have the newest firmware from the Magellan website for starters. Why is it checking on COM ports? I didn't think the GPS was even able to connect to a COM port...was pretty sure it's all USB. It won't explicitly identify the GPS in the Device Manager under the USB Controllers necessarily. Just a question; why were you expecting a "serial-to-USB driver" in the Control Panel?
  7. mfmchen101, What OS are you using? Are you USB ports 2.0? I haven't noticed any issues with the GPS begin recognised with WinXP Pro. Are you going through the USB connectivity manager to "shut down" the connection to your GPS? If so, you might have to physically unplug the cable, and replug it back in. ..you shouldn't have to do anything with the system services. I know what you mean about Norton...pain in the butt if you ask me. I gave up antivirus about 1-1/2 years ago and just made sure I was browsing more carefully...haven't had one problem and my computer is a lot faster from not having Norton get it's "fingers" into everything. 8. I rencently got a Magellan Explorist 500LE for 219CDN$, and have been extremely impressed so far other then the basemap being sparse....looking forward to purcashing Canada Topo for it soon... Tomek
  9. I just had my first cache hunt on Sunday...I did "The Bat Cave" hunt on the escarpment, and it was an absolute blast! I am hooked... However, this particular cache included searched through 3-4 "caves" to find the it....it really provided for a great experience. I was thinking afterwards that no hunt will probably seem as good as the "cave" aspect really added a nice touch. Thomas
  10. I too just got a Magellan Explorist 500LE for Christmas just passed. I have been using it and finding it great for the most part, however without the Canada Topo maps it's graphical aspect seems wasted. Just today I scanned across Lake Ontario to the Buffalo area and was shocked at the level of basemap detail in the US as opposed to Canada. Does anyone else notice this too with their Explorist Canada basemap? When I first saw it this evening, I thought mayve I got one with a US "package" by mistake. Tomek a.k.a. maleficarum
