  1. So.....what I'm wondering is this.... If I place an order....and make a special request like.........hmmmm.......ahhh, how about ...... Make it free?.......... Do I get my wish too?.......... (chuckle) Just wanted to tell the folks there.....GREAT JOB!! With all the complaints about customer service lately at stores.....it's great to see somebody going the extra mile.
  2. It seems like the majority of teams here in Michigan leave team cards.....which are sought after and collected by other teams. It's gotten to be pretty funny chasing somebody just to get a card. A growing number of us also do a "signature" item also. Once we decieded on an item, we searched on e=bay and found a great deal on a bunch of them. So, we now place a card and a signature item in every cache we come to. If there is something we'd like to trade for, we will also do a trade.....but that doesn't happen much....mostly we collect team cards and signaure items. It's almost a contest here in Michigan to see who has the biggest collection!!
  3. With everyone counting finds differently, and playing the game differently, I'm not sure another stat to be be questioned by everyone would be worth it.
  4. Here in Michigan......we have lots of snow at times. This will be our second winter of caching. Just make lots of tracks in all kinds of directions and nobody will know where the cache is at. And somebody posted there is nothing like a full moon and lots of snow.....winter caching at night is awsome! Just be careful about water, creeks and rivers and such.......best to go in groups and think ahead. Have fun!
  5. If you look through the Alaska pics of the Northern Lights....you'll find our avatar....We enjoyed seeing them many nights while living in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. There is an old indian legend that says the lights dancing means a warrior has gone on to the happy hunting ground......and if the lights change color, it means a chief has gone. 6. Spent 13 wonderful years in the USAF.....Upper Peninsula of Michigan, England, Spain, back to Michigan, Honduras (during the war down there), back to Michigan, back to Honduras, back to Michigan, then civilian life. Started out slaying dragons for a living.....(firefighter), but one of them bit me in 1988 while making a resuce. After almost a year in the hospitial, I cross trained into the Safety field. Was able to spend another 4 years before my injuries finally forced me to get out. Would do it all again if I could, I think it's a wonderful career. Don't mess with it. worldtraveler I disagree.....if it's state land or federal land....then he found litter and should trash out!! If it's not marked as a cache...it isn't. 8. Last night I happened to be looking for the cache page of a cache I did last year. Not only does it no longer appear when I do a search of my zip code.....but it also has disappeared from my "found" list. What is going on!? Here's the pic: http://users.elknet.net/kevong/cachecasejuly03.jpg So that is where all the missing travel bugs are eh!! lol...only kidding....it looks good. 11. Well...we don't have one year just yet....but we started believing we weren't quite newbies yet after doing several difficult multi's or long hike hides. Then, after hiding a couple of "Challenge" caches that stumped some of the veteran cachers around...I really felt I'd graduated. I guess it's a matter of experience...sorta like what was already stated. If God is your co-pilot, it's time to change seats!!! http://www.mi-geocaching.org/

  13. There has to be some give and take with this. I understand the potential headaches this activity might cause them....but it almost always does not actually come about. I think you should start a dialog with them about it. If God is your co-pilot, it's time to change seats!!! http://www.mi-geocaching.org/
  14. I did this one... http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=51921 awhile back. The log I put in says "July 4 by Northern-Lights (140 found) Well....got there this morning... Cache was destroyed! The cache was still hanging there, but no top on it....half full of water, and NO contents around. We kicked through the leaves and found the cache top....dumped the water from the cache...made up a new log book..and re-stocked the cache with some extra items I had with me. Unfortunately, that also means the TB...G.O. Rilla is missing in action. I had the pleasure of bringing him up this way this last spring....bummer. I didn't have anything to wipe the cache out with, so there is still some water moisture in the cache. We also put most of what we put in there inside ziplock baggies...but somebody should wipe the cache out. I'm glad I was able to salvage the cache...another cacher found it later that day and never even knew what had happened. The cache owner was pretty thrilled when I e-mailed them what had happened. 15. quote:Originally posted by seneca:Hmmmm. Maybe the answer has something to do with "Freedom". I always thought thought that Freedom was a fairly important concept in the U.S. (Freedom to choose ; freedom to roam; freedom to enjoy the splendor of my country Those are all pretty important to me). Freedom to enjoy the country is not the same as freedom to harm it. If something is found to do harm...then maybe it should be thought through a bit. Maybe the alternative is to allow Virtuals only....or something like that. But I do agree that the parks should at least try something on a limited basis to see how it goes. 16. One of the first caches we ever did we moved a bit. However, it was found sitting out in the open, actually in deep center field of a softball field. The cache page even said it was in the woods. So...we moved it into the woods about where we thought our GPS was saying it should be...then e-mailed the owner about it. Even though it was one of our first and we were newbies then....I think I'd probably do the same today. It was obviously not where it was supposed to be....left out in the open like that. But for the most part, the situation you describe is different and should not happen. I think sometimes it happens when people get so excited about finding the cache,, that they forget just where it was.....and then they think they are putting it back exactly as they found it.....so, you'll probably never get anyone to realize what they did, unless you see them do it.... Hopefully, as they get more experienced, they will be more careful. We were very fortunate to have participated in a Geo-caching social early on and did several caches with various teams. It taught us a lot about ethics and technique. Maybe, we should require a license to be cachers?......lol (Oh no, another rule!!!) 17. Click here.... http://www.mi-geocaching.org/ and you'll find on the left side of the page some links to parts of the MiGO home page. Click on the one "Contact Us"....and leave a message. The steering comittee will get back with you with some stuff we recently wrote just for your situation. Good luck....it sounds like you've got a good situation there. Your handling it great so far.... If God is your co-pilot, it's time to change seats!!! http://www.mi-geocaching.org/
  18. If you buy the video about using the unit...it will go into details very nicely. I've found the owners manual leaves a lot to be desired, the video...(down by Outdoor Outfitters as I recall) is very good. About $20 I think...and well worth it. They do videos on most of the units on the market I think. If God is your co-pilot, it's time to change seats!!! http://www.mi-geocaching.org/
  19. Used a Garmin 45 for several years..... then, when buying a new GPS specifically for Geo-caching, I studied everything I could get my hands on. One of the studies was about the sensitivity and accuracy of the quadrifilliar antenna. I'm also a hunter that goes into the deep woods of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I liked the idea of a sensitive antenna. Then I looked at the forum called Garage sale....the vast majority of GPS units there are e-trex models. Finally, I looked the units over....the buttons on the etrex are difficult to use....on the sides....the screen is small....etc. I bought a Magellan and love it. Very easy to use.....VERY accurate and sensitive. If God is your co-pilot, it's time to change seats!!! http://www.mi-geocaching.org/
  20. I don't like the antenna in the e-trex series....go for Magellans Meridian gold....or the Sportrac Pro.... Both have excellant antennas.....you won't be sorry. If God is your co-pilot, it's time to change seats!!! http://www.mi-geocaching.org/

  22. I'm certainly not one of the "smart" people you refer too...but here is an idea I've been tinkering with. Load a bunch of caches from an area into your GPS....then add them to a route. Once in a route, you should be able to look at the screen and see the route...and manipulate it anyway you want. It should work...but I haven't tried it yet. I also don't have any mapping software yet. If God is your co-pilot, it's time to change seats!!! http://www.mi-geocaching.org/
