  1. I just switched to a PDA/puck and I am finally ready to sell my precious Garmin GPSmap 60CSx. Included: Garmin GPSmap 60CSx - Unit is a little over a year old but in excellent shape. There are no marks on it at all. Original box, manual and software. USB Cable for Connecting to your PC. The North American Navigation Kit with CityNav 2008. Allows for turn by turn directions when driving. Kit also comes with a mobile mount and vehicle power cable. Bicycle Handlebar Mount. Topo US 2008 Software. 2 GB micro SD card for storing the maps. I'm asking $350 for the whole setup. I take PayPal, and would prefer to sell and ship within the continental United States. Please let me know if you have any questions.
  2. All I have to say here is thanks. I was casually reading the forums and came across this thread. I didn't think Garmin was allowing free upgrades from v8 to 2008 (I hadn't checked in here in a while...) and lo and behold you all noted that you had done it... I gave Garmin a shout and they had no problem at all sending me out an upgrade (I purchased in August). Thanks!
  3. 1. GPS - 60CSX 2. Paperless Device and Software - Blackberry 8830 and either Mobipocket (using GSAK Macro) or the WAP site 3. Software for downloading Waypoints - GSAK 4. Maps - Garmin City Nav and Topo
  4. Sorry gang... it sold already (for $375 plus shipping). Please lock thread, thanks!
  5. Hi All, I'm going to try to sell this as a complete package... * A Garmin 60csx (that's three months old and has seen very limited use) with everything it came with originally, including the original box. * The Garmin car kit, including CityNav V8 and the various car mounts and lighter adapter * A bike handlebar mount $395 + $20 for shipping (based on eBay sales and relevant rebates) thunder33cat [at] yahoo {dot} com or PM I prefer Paypal.
  6. Thanks, all... I just want to make sure I wasn't going to create a problem for myself or someone else by linking the maps to the sale. Stay tuned for a separate posting for the sale...
  7. [sorry in advance about the absolutely meaningless title of the tread... I can't find a way to edit it...] I have a 60csx that I am considering selling. I also have Topo and City Nav v8 software. I'm confused by the code locking for City Nav. My understanding is Topo can be used with any unit and could be sold separately, whereas the City Nav is locked to the unit. So is it acceptable to sell the unit and software together, and is there any risk to the buyer that the software won't be able to be unlocked? This is the only unit the software has been used on. Hopefully this question makes sense.
  8. Try www.aximsite.com as well - there's a lot of helpful folks there.
  9. I haven't seen anything in print that says they will. However the fact that they are planning a vehicle mount as an accessory might lead one to believe that they will.
  10. Talked to Garmin tech rep today who said they had the full DVD version of 2008 in stock and could ship, and further said if they inadvertently shipped v8 they would upgrade me for free. This begs the question: why don't the retailers have 2008 yet?
  11. The carrier is Verizon. I already have a Bluetooth GPS receiver, so I'm not so concerned about the crippling of the internal 8830 receiver. I figure I'll get better sensitivity with the puck anyway. We'll see how it goes.
  12. Okay. So here I sit with a new 60csx on my desk, a Dell Axim x51v next to it (downloading topos and arials into BCN), and a Blackberry 8830 on its way - ostensibly to be running Telenav. Allow me to debate with myself for a bit, since I really can't make up my mind. Feel free to chime in at any time with anecdotes, ideas, etc... 60csx/Blackberry 8830 Geocaching - will work perfectly and reliably in this regard. 60csx can handle a drop and other potential device risks. Would be nice to have the topo maps. Blackberry will allow me to get additional cache info as needed on the fly. Driving - Telenav is an option (9.99/mo) as is CityNav (I don't have CN8 or CN2008 yet) for the 60csx. Perhaps both Telenav and CN, as Telenav requires a phone signal. Axim x51v Geocaching - have the software (BCN, Cachemate, BeelineGPS) and the GPS puck. I also have an Otterbox to protect the Axim. This is truly paperless and pretty easy. (I just make pocket queries, copy the e-mailed file to the Axim and go.) Stability is the chief concern. If I'm out wandering, I really cannot afford for it to crash. I don't have the same concern with the 60csx. Driving - iGuidance v3.01 software for the Axim. Bigger VGA touch screen, voice prompts. Works well. No issues. Separate phone and primary driving GPS. So... it certainly looks like the Axim wins in this rough comparison. Except... it is very redundant with respect to the Blackberry (and I have to have the Blackberry for work). Stability is also something of a concern... not so much when I'm out locally, but more so when I might wander more remotely (I will have a paper map and compass, but I'd rather keep the liklihood of using them as low as possible.) And so there you have it. The 60csx doesn't fit the budget unless the Axim goes - particularly if I have to add CN2008 and possibly topos to the mix. This kind of Axim setup will net me about $460 on eBay. The 60csx... $292 after rebate, $95-130 for CN, $80 for topos.... kinda equivalent. Kinda.
  13. I would suggest Backcountry Navigator as an option for maps and caches. That said, I wish Beeline would allow topo and arial image import, because I find it faster and better at managing waypoints.
  14. Various flavors of this question are circulating, but I've searched and am still not sure what the answer to my questions are. I just bought a 60csx and would like to add CityNavigator. My understanding is that the CityNav 2008 version that is out for purchase now is only an upgrade, correct? So... When is the full version expected? The 60csx can handle both regular and NT versions, correct? Garmin isn't offering a free upgrade, so it makes absolutely no sense to buy CityNav v8 right now unless I have an overwhelming need for on-road navigation? Thanks... this info is probably scattered throughout the forum, but I was hoping to consolidate the answers for ease...
  15. There is a more current version. I have a pdf downloaded from Walmart's website (on Friday 27 Jul 07) that shows a $50 rebate for purchases of the 60cx and 60 csx from 7/28/07-12/31/07. I just double checked it. Also, this weekend I discovered that Eastern Mountain Sports has a pricematch policy and they matched Walmart's price for the 60csx ($342). I'd much rather deal with EMS and I could get it from a brick and mortar rather than online (read: "instant gratification issues"). Throw in the rebate, and I'm happy.
  16. rlrigdeway... Good point re: the Axim. I use BeelineGPS right now and don't have the benefit of maps - just tracks. I'll have to look at Backcountry Navigator before I progress too far down this path... Are you content with the Axim setup or do you also have a dedicated GPS?
  17. Thanks Miragee and CenTexDodger! CenTexDodger... again, thanks for the info - particularly with respect to the Telenav vs CityNav comparison. I'd have to upgrade to a new Blackberry (8703e - but with VZW - so I'd still have to use the puck) to take advantage of Telenav, so that cost factors into this decision, as well. I can take or leave the voice prompts in Telenav, I think... but am curious whether interface, autorouting and POIs are better with one or the other? (Curiously - I've been searching for a review of CityNav - especially one with screen shots - and I can't find one.) EDIT: thanks to info in another post, I dug further and found the map viewer and screen shots on Garmin's site and have satisfied my need for screen shots. One advantage of the CityNav would be that you don't need the phone connnection for it to be used, whereas my understanding is that you do for Telenav.
  18. The more I search/read here, the more confused I get. But that's very likely due to the reader , not the informative posts here . What I hope to do with this post is to consolidate my thoughts and debate into a series of questions. Currently I use my Dell Axim PDA for both in-car nav (iGuidance) and for paperless geocaching (BeelineGPS). However... I would like to go to one device for PDA/phone purposes, which will be consolidated into a Blackberry 8700 or 8800 and purchase a dedicated GPS for geocaching and also in-car nav. My GPS debate then hinges on 4 GPS units (more or less)... the Vista HCx, the Legend HCx, the 60Cx or the 76Cx, which I gather will all be pretty suitable for geocaching. My first question, then, is this: why is the sentiment here seem to be 60Cx > 76Cx > Legend HCx & Vista HCx? I've looked using Garmin's comparision tool and don't see a huge tangible difference on paper. So why the $80-120 difference in cost between the 60Cx and the Legend? Also - what's the difference between the 60Cx and the 76Cx and why does the 60Cx seem to be preferred? I also then have a couple of options for in car nav as a result... Telenav on the Blackberry using a GPS puck and/or one of the Garmins above with CityNav. Which of the 4 units above would be best in this regard? The direction I currently lean is the Legend HCx with City Nav and keeping the puck and TeleNav on the Blackberry, too. But if the 60Cx or 76Cx are that much better than the Legend, I don't want to discount them, either. Many questions, I know. And thanks in advance for any insights y'all can offer.
