  1. I hide some of mine in places where you have to get out of town and do a little hiking.I hardly ever have a muggle problem with these types of hides. They don't get found as often, but I know that when they do the finders have had to get out and about a little bit to find them.
  2. It's always nice when that first person finds your newly hidden cache...congrats!
  3. I have only ran into one bear while in the woods...but this guy was on my property one year in the fall ( I have a small fruit orchard...4 apple,2 cherry and 2 plum trees ).He was eating the fruit that had fallen off of some of the apple trees.
  4. I go caching by myself about 90 percent of the time...I usually go on some really long hikes that my wife and son just aren't up for.I enjoy having others along as well,it just usually works out the other way around.
  5. I will search for a long time...over an hour or more if I am out of town in a secluded type location. If it is a muggle heavy area, I usually limit it to around 20 minutes or so. Even then, I will somtimes search longer... I have a hard time giving up.
  6. I also like to cache year round.I've had some of my most memorable caching experiences in the snow.Be sure and look the cache description over good before you try and find them in the snow though...trying to find a micro buried somewhere in a snow bank creates the obvious challenges. They can also become frozen to/or into the ground at times...just have fun with it no matter when you go searching for one!!
  7. I enjoy the hunt and I have also found really awesome areas to hike and backpack,etc...because of geocaching.I have an area that I hike deep into a few hidden mountain lakes to fish...this year I did an overnight camping trip there...that I would never have known about if it wasn't for a cache placed here that I found a couple of years ago.I,in turn, have tried to find out of the way places to hide a few caches so that I can bring others to areas that they might not realize are here.
  8. I use an ipod touch with the igeocacher app.
  9. Right now I have 21.I enjoy hiding caches...I am always looking for out of the way places that most people would never get to unless they had something to bring them there.
  10. It is very easy to get hooked on finding caches...so you should have no problem getting him on board.
  11. If you upgrade to a premium membership you will be able to sort the caches by size,difficulty,etc...
  12. I have the same unit and same versions of IE and also firefox and just downloaded a few a couple of days ago without any problems. You might try redownloading the garmin communicator plugin for doing these cache downloads.Try looking here:http://www8.garmin.com/products/communicator/.Hope this helps.
  13. I reposted this topic because I didn't see any text for my last post.Does anyone know if I can use my ipod touch for paperless caching and if I need cachemate to do it.If so,how do you get cachemate on your ipod touch and how do you use the info on your computer from a pocket query to get the cache page info on your ipod? Thanks.
  14. Where do you find these space pens?I've never seen one,but from reading through some of the posts, I would like to give them a try.
  15. I have found several that have long periods between finds.Like stated above, unless there are DNF's the last few times they are usually due to being in out of the way\long hiking areas.I have one that I hid in the summer of 2007 that has only been found once.It is about 13 miles up a couple of dirt roads in the mountains and then a couple miles hiking from there.I place some of my own hides in very remote places with nice views and\or hikes to get people to interesting type places.I do this knowing that they will only get found probably once or twice a year at best.I,myself intentionally look for the ones that are very remote and have long hikes, because I like the peacefulness that being in a very remote location brings me.
  16. I also enjoy the hides.I like to put them out where a lot of people wouldn't normally get to.I guess that makes sense, because those are the kind of caches I enjoy looking for.
  17. I always take a few ball point pens and pencils also with me when I go caching.I only put pencils in my own hides because sometimes up here in the COLD a pen doesn't always work so well.
  18. Here is one of a "United For Diabetes" travel bug that I picked. He decided to do a little fishing down at the creek, even though there was still ice hanging around. As you can see,he was dressed for warmer weather.
  19. Mine would be the first nano I ever found.I had never heard of them and the description on the cache just said micro...nothing about it being a nano.It took me about 3-4 tries to finally find it.After that one though, nanos weren't quite as hard to find...knowing what they look like.
  20. If I am looking for a cache around sagebrush areas here,I use a long stick to poke around with before I stick my hands underneath an area that looks like a rattlesnake may like to hide in.So far,the only species of snakes I have seen while geocaching are bull snakes.I like snakes and don't mind handling them, but only the non-venomous ones ( no reason to take the risk, especially way out where some of the caches I find are at ).Here is a video still shot of one of the bull snakes I have ran across.
  21. Mine would be a 4 movie DVD set.I found a million dollar bill in one once.Unfortunately,Wal-Mart couldn't make change for me when I tried to use it to buy a pack of gum...go figure.
  22. It hasn't happened in a long time, but if it does and when I'm not on here or one of the other related sites, I like to play music ( drums, guitar and bass ).I also like to watch SCARY movies...they don't make them scary enough as far as I'm concerned.
  23. Here in Montana,I cache year round.I have had stretches where I have had to wait for the weather to break or more caches to come up in my area.It is definately harder to cache in the winter here because of large amounts of some we sometimes get.I still like to search for some in the snow, but it usually will depend on the cache size.It is possible to find an ammo can under a foot or more of snow, but a micro is usually out of the question...even though I have looked for and found some under as much as 3-4 feet.A lot of luck and the snow being powdery enough not to be very difficult to dig in helped me out a few times.
  24. I have found 116 NGS benchmarks so far.I love looking for them...especially the ones that involve hiking to mountaintop areas where they haven't been logged by anyone and are sometimes buried and you need a metal detector to find them. These are very rewarding ones to find.
  25. I'm sorry to hear about the passing of a member of your family. My two dogs are very loved members of my family and I know how I would feel to lose one of them.I took both of my little guys to do a couple of hides during a 20+ mile trip up in the mountains a few days ago. They love to ride in the cab with me and to be outside. Here are their pictures. This is "Ozzy" This is "Bandit"
