  1. Created a route in Mapsource, saved as gpx, logged into GC.com and attempt to upload GPX for Caches along a route. I brouse to the file and it shows up on the GC.com page but says that the route is not saved. It won't preview and when I try to save it the GC.com wants me to upload it again. What have I done wrong?? I would try it as a KML file but Mapsource doesn't give me the option. I've tried to find help here and at Garmin but with no luck. Can any one help me? Am a premium member. have updated software I know I'm just missing something.
  2. I got three so far... all easily within an hour but they were not large areas. I think I would resubmit... When I made my first maps about 2 weeks ago, the only mail I got was the mail saying the data was ready (I think). Last night I got the "data being processed email" and now almost 9 hours later I have not recieved the data. Has anyone recieved 2 emails per map versus just the one with the link-to-download? Yes. Last week or so it took me two days to even get on the site. They must have been having trouble. After selecting the areas that I wanted and leaving email address I got confirmation of the "request" then a day or two later I got the link to download. I might also add that the area being selected may involve more than one drainage "basin" and hence you may even get more than one link to download. This is why in the next step you "trim" out what is not needed for the selected area of topo. These are not hard facts just conclusions that I've made while going through the process and making more than my share of mistakes.
  3. displays in Mapsource for me... Notice in Mapsource the "highest" at the top of the page. I too seemed to have lost data until I changed from "normal" to "higher" or "highest". Might give it a try.
  4. Are you speaking of the map screen? If so, what unit are you using and how do you change the color? Edit: Or do you mean the day/night color scheme? It's a Garnin gpsmap 76csx. and yes it's in the day-night map setup where the color scheme is changed (as I recall). So duh me, not liking the default, changed to colors that were the same as the topo lines and they hence became invisable. It freaked me out.
  5. After you execute the "custom.reg" file the first time, there is no need to run it again unless you change the location of your map set. After you run "cgpsmapper pv test_pv.txt" to add more .img files, just delete the "custom__________.reg" file that is created. You do need to replace the "Custom.tdb" and "Custom.img" file with the new ones, if you added more map segments. I too lost the topo but have not seen a change to the regestry. My problem turned out to be the GPSr screen color. I had the footage markers for the lines but no lines. When I restored defaules for the screen (color) I could see the topo lines again. I guess that the lines were there but because they were the same color as the screen they were invisible. In my case the solution was simple it just took a while to figure it out.
  6. Since the Custom Topo maps are transparent, you can see other maps beneath it. I've got an old copy of roads and rec, and heres a sample of what it looks like on the G76CSx. Is there a source for updated road data that could be imported? Maybe you could even import the garmin data? I have the same model as you and the topos, with hydro, look great even with the base map that came with it. I guess that when learning how to do the transparent maps I failed to notice if roads were available. I've lived here for 25 years and my friend's "streets" CD fails to show a 23 year old 4-lane highway that runs right by my house. So if I could make my own map including topo, water and roads selectivly for the areas that I want I wouldn't be held captive by outdated software. Have some friends at the Hgwy Dept that might know of a web site where data could be Dn loaded like the topo/hydro that might be added to the equasion. Wouldn't that be cool?
  7. Now that we see the difference in topo's, I wonder if we can put streets and roads into these things. Have seen another's unit with streets and they are outdated. Any thoughts?
  8. Well it took a few hours to finally figure it out, but....... I guess Mom was right, nothin' that's worth anything comes easy. It wasn't easy, but it sure is worth it . These topo's with Hydro are great. They really add to the experience. Thanks all.
  9. this is great... many thanks to all who contributed to this topic, both as instructors and as students. many of my questions were answered in the thread. i've gotten everything except the test_pv.txt edits for the second and subsequent maps. when i try the second map the it replaces the first one in Mapsource. i add both under the [Files] but it replaces the previous one. i noticed the REM after the ProductCoce=111 line but changing this doesn't seem to helm. i'm a little slow at this but i've gotten this far and dot't want to give up now kdol5
