  1. Sorry, I have to be very critical. While Groundspeak Inc. staff is in a safe enviroment at home, it is obvious that they made a bad decision that threatens public health. There are certain percentage od the people who are not sufficiently aware of the danger, as we can read here. Groundspeak Inc. cannot deny responsibility because they provide logistical support.
  2. Over decade ago I was National Security Advisor in my coutry. I understand well the words of politicians and medical staff to know how serious the situation is. HQ, please listen this man several times: Make one or two steps before goverments, not behind.
  3. HQ promotes the social responsibility of geocachers (through CITO and other ways). According to the Gaussian curve, among geocachers are also socially irresponsible geocachers. HQ provides them with logistical support for their activity. Is HQ socially responsible in a pandemic situation?
  4. I wrote "maybe" which means it is not a proposal, it is a thinking under what conditions geocachers could perform activities in a pandemic situation.
  5. No. Maybe souvenir for logging non-event type cache with letters CRG inside text. (Coronavirus Responsible Geocacher) CRG would mean that nobody found cache three days before me, and I found it alone or only with family members.
  6. The HQ call is not enough. Maybe this has already happened, local reviewer should have been instructed to cancel the events if: - the country called for people not to gather or - country declared a state of emergency.
  7. There will always be responsible and slightly less responsible people. Even among geocachers. A pandemic is declared globally, regardless of the country's incidence rate. The HQ has the main responsibility for this activity. And HQ leadership should be an example of good practice and spread awareness. Like CITO. Maybe we could even have a souvenir on that topic.
  8. Lets behave responsibly. World Health Organisation declared a worldwide epidemic. HQ must suspend and disable all Events.
  9. Not from you, but from others I do not see any additional value for the topics if they repeat all over again that is obligation in geocaching. We have no obligation to write in the log no more then a single word. But we do that. Because that's fair to the owner, isn't it?
  10. Hmmm ... I'm curious. I never heard of this issue, so I tried it just now. At the start of the experiment, my Profile page said "Logs Until Next Favorite Point: 9". Then I logged "Found it" logs on two of my own archived caches. As I had never logged these as "found" before, the Profile page now said "Logs Until Next Favorite Point: 7". Just as expected. Then I deleted the two bogus logs, but the number is still at 7! Of course it also stays at 7, if I write another find log for one of the two archived caches. So it's correct, that only the first "Found it" log adds to the FP counter, but deleting that log apparently doesn't decrease the counter. Is there some sort of "delayed update" involved? I hope so, because otherwise some jokers might get the idea to beef up their available FP by fake-logging caches all over the world and deleting the logs immediately afterwards . Number decreases even on our own caches if we log them as found and then delete log.
  11. That is not logic. I there would exist rules or obligation we would't need fair play anyway. It's not about competition nor because of that less value experience. For me fair play means that I recognise fact among us are geocachers who also (not exclusively) like FTF. My attitude to other geocachers dictates me to except this fact and because of that I write log for a new caches immediately whether I compete with them or not.
  12. That's okay. Just rest assured that others do see objective reasons or advantages to using Note logs instead of Found logs. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=343291&view=findpost&p=5640217 http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=343291&view=findpost&p=5639991 I accept this arguments. While editing timestamp is not longer issue, some people wants their new and non edited log is distributed at least to the owner. This is only possible if we use two different log types Write note and Found it. Nobody wants to receive every edited log, because we are sometimes correcting grammar mistakes. Issue with FP I understand less, because why I wouldn't be able to FP, if I delete first found note? It is not logic either, why I loose FP, if I delete found note with FP. Do you agree with that or there is logic explanation? I must do some test for myself to understand this FP behavior. I hope majority of us agree, writing online FTF log as soon as possible is a fair play regardless do we use smartphones with data connection or not. As I can see, we can divide reason for a different approach because of personal preferences or they are determined with information technology solutions.
  13. O please, do not scan my words with microscope. At least not those, which are out of topics. I do not understand why people get upset. You got wrong impression. If we know that other geocachers are behind us, we always wait them for a group FTF. Can we discuss why some people prefer FTF notes?
  14. KBLAST, yes, there is slight language barrier, because I'm not native English speaker. I appreciate your contribution in which there is no trace of emotion. At the end I would like to make a summary for pros and cons about using note for FTF. In my community there were also sparks about this topics. Actally, I would like to understand this phenomenon. first draft: For note: - people wants their Found log is distributed, if they edit FTF Found log, there is no distribution - if Found log is deleted (replaced) FP point is lost Against note: - new gaocaches list on geocaching.com web site is useless - application which monitors new caches are useless - potential FTF geocachers must read logs
  15. I'm aware of that. I hope my different voice will not lead to disqualification at the end of topics, because we don't have no more arguments to exchange.
  16. I newer opposed that. Word lazy was truly improper. I'm sorry. For people like me senseless is something different than for you. I'm not forcing nobody.
  17. I'm not inventing rules. I'm not expecting from others to play by my way. I'm discussing with others geocaching aspects on this forum. I'm explaining my view. That is the purpose why this forum exists. I think there is nothing wrong with that.
  18. I'm glad to read one subjective argument, which I can understand. But, I again tested changing one my FTF log. There is no trace about editing at the log. There is Last Updated: 3 minutes ago on 03/07/2017 05:33:37 (UTC-08:00) Pacific Time (US & Canada) (13:33 GMT) at the very bottom. Nobody else can define where change has happened. Maybe at that time editing left the trace.
  19. But not in the manner, that you need to buy or use new equipment. Only to except fact, that those who using new technology would like to benefit from it. And that only means use the right tool (log type), which is intended to use anyway. That simply means, that we respect each other. If you are not able to log cache half or one day I'll understand. If you will make simple check for me whether cache already has FTF or not, I'll know you care about geocahing fellows.
  20. I've missed that. If you have feeling that I dictate, please except my deepest and truly apology. I did't write a single word for such conclusion. I respect all other geocachers, especially experienced. On other hand I don't except patronizing. My only intention is to exchange arguments and opinions.
  21. No, I'm not sayint that at all. I've sad what I would do in a case where I can expect more FTF geocachers. If your objective circumstance is that you don't own a smartphone or you are using paper maps and compass, then your fair play is to log as soon as you get chance. Not logging at all we discussed is bigger problem for geocacher who like to FTF the same geocache than usage Write note log type. I'm still not convinced which are objective reasons or advantage for using Write note log versus Found it.
  22. What is out of our will, that's objective circumstance. If I choose to use Write note and not Fount it log, that's my subjective decision.
  23. We must distinguish between objective and subjective circumstances. In this 7 hides I would log immediately after I reach data coverage. Our topic is about objective or subjective reason for using Found it or Write note FTF log.
  24. I think that's actual reason for a diferent practice and views among us. I personally use smartphone and external GPS device in poor GPS coverage. Because of that I'm frustrated, because I cant't use functionalities which smartphone offers. Nowadays prices for a data connestions dropped on a reasonable level and geocachers without that are very rare. Few years ago i knew geocachers without data connection, today none. Technology changes practice. If rules doesn't folow practice problems begin to raise. I personaly would not FTF, if I would not be able to make online notification that geocache is already been found.
