  1. I emailed Garmin a few weeks ago alerting them that their sample map page was down. I don't know if this had anything to do with it, but it's up now. You can actually preview any region of any map that they sell. Just select the product from the pull-down (ie CitiNavigator v8) and zoom and scroll away. You'll know exactly what you'll be getting if you choose to purchase. http://www.garmin.com/cartography/
  2. Sweet! Exactly what I was looking for. I wasn't aware that you could go another level deeper on the options. This allows the user to select either the Topo or CitiNavigator maps quickly.
  3. Now that I have my 1GB card, I packed it full of topo and city maps. As usual to view topo maps, I need to uncheck the City Navigator Map for the region of interest. With a 56kB card this was pretty quick as there weren't that many maps being stored. With the 1GB card, I have to scroll through alot of maps before I get to the City Navigator map which is always the last in the list. We're talking minutes of scrolling here. Is there a quicker way?
  4. This worked for me just last week, but now I also get a black window. I have Mapsource Topo version 2.0 for the West. I used the map viewer and verified that the new Topo maps have no more information than my Topo from 1999 (at least for my areas of interest). Interestingly, I also recently installed anti-virus SW since the map viewer last worked for me. I emailed the Garmin webmaster to see what he/she says.
  5. You can actually go to the Garmin website and preview their maps before purchasing. You can zoom into any area of interest. This way there is no guess work. You know exactly what you're getting. www.garmin.com/cartography/ Select the product and area of interest from the MapSource Map Viewer pulldown menu. It's kind of slow so be patient.
  6. Geesh, we're just trying to helpful. We could have told him to read the manual or do a search.
  7. With the older Mapsource products, the Metro maps "trump" the topo maps. That is, the metro map would take precidence over all topo maps encompassed by the same area. Select the metro map to see the city information and simply deselect it to see the topo information. I can't speak for City Navigator as I haven't used it, but this technique is worth a try.
  8. I also used the Garmin bicycle mount on my motorcycle, but had problems with it. There is no vibration damping and my unit would power off on its own. Now this was with an eTrex Vista and I believe these older units all had this problem. Cycoactive has a webpage describing how to remedy the situation. This issue may have well been resolved with the newer color units. I recently purchased a GPSMAP60CSx and plan on using the Ram mount for vibration isolation just to be safe. Touratech makes a more expensive mount that has the option of locking the unit to the mount with a key.
  9. Unfortunately I didn't discover this website until I already placed the unit on ebay. I recently purchased a GPSMAP 60CSx and no longer have a need for the eTrex Vista. Here's the link with all the info: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...p;rd=1&rd=1
  10. I love these types of forums. I had the exact same question, joined up, did a search, and now my question is answered. Thanks everybody!
