  1. Would like to see an attribute for caches (like dogs allowed etc.) for large vehicle accessiblity I often travel in a motor home and I know there are Geo-Truckers out there who might enjoy searching for caches, but dont leave the main highway for some since they dont know if its easy to get in, out, or turn around if they are in a Semi, larger motor home, or pulling a large trailer of any sort. Places like truck stops, rest areas, etc may be self explaining, but many caches might be easily accessible and parking adequate for a larger vehicle, but you have to bypass due to the uncertainty.
  2. Often i do a search for a portion of the cache name. But if not enough name, I could get several pages of caches found and never fails I get those from multiple states away from me at the top of the list and have to search down through them for the one Im looking for just a couple miles from my home. Addition of a closest to zip code entered box would be even more benefitial (in case you happen to be a few states away from home at the time).
  3. Better be careful, someone might be allergic to gunpowder And Smokers beware...... Sorry Im bad tonight....
  4. Cachers lick caches? And thier Tasty Too....... (although some are tastier than others)
  5. Thanks for the replies so far - Im getting the feeling most cache owners have are cool with replacing or attempted repairs if feasible and as long as the owner is contacted. I have 1 placed and know that would be fine with me - I wasnt sure about useing "maint request" vs. "notes" vs. direct email. I never feel right about leving a cache in bad condition for the next finder as well as the owner. Please do continue to add replies - Let everyone know its ok (or not) or special rememberable repair stories / maybe youve adopted a cache (officially/unofficially) / Maybe had to refind the next day or taken whole caches "back to your shop" for repairs. Think Ill start taking some repair items with me - extra mini/standard logbooks - plastic bags, pencils, etc.
  6. 1) Caches themselves cannot be buried but it does sound like you didnt dig to place this - maybe a sewer or water pipe sticking out of the ground, or other such items. This should be ok. I for one request that anytime someone uses a man-made item to hide the cache (unless extremely obvious) it should be noted in the description or hints= or have something labeled with the GeoCache Symbol; That would let the cache finder know that its A)safe, B)Permission granted, C)wont break something important for the area. 2) if you require a special item to do the cache such as a wrench, screwdriver, ladder, whatever please note it in the cache description and/or minimally the hint. Or provide on site (maybe hide the screwdriver at the waypoint and set it as a multi cache and tag it with the location of the actual cache); attach it to the cache, etc.
  7. What is the proper ettiquette most subscribe to when they find a cache in not perfect condition? I recently went to a cache that was damp enough on the log sheet that it was difficult to write on (micro). I noticed that someone had placed a new sheet of paper in the cache to sign on. Ive noticed on several occasions people adding new log sheets to a cache. However since a wet log is left in place it just keeps the whole thing wet often even the new log. If in a normal cache the old log can be placed in a bag seperate, but especially in a micro that may not be possible. Here is the question, Is it better to just add a sheet for your signature; report it as needs maintenance, just add a note to your find or seperate note entry reporting the issue (ive noticed that some caches over and over have it noted that the cache is damp, but the next finder still finds it the same way); Is it ok to remove the wet material completely (even the log sheet) and maybe replace with a new one after drying the box or container; or other options. I would like to here what you think on these or any ideas or notes on what you have done in the past.
  8. I do enjoy the Google earth capability to view caches in an area. However I would also like to see a way to filter out the caches already found or at least use a different symbol (maybe a checkmark) for those caches. If this ability is already available and I just havent seen the how to do this can someone point me in the right direction.
  9. I consider myself as a newbie as well, but I do log any DNFs as well. Anytime I feel I get close to the site, I plan to log it (unless a reason exists that would have meaning to other cachers or owners such as Bridge out, Tree down, Park temporary closed etc. I would log those as well). It a challenge to myself that If I log a DNF and don't hear anything I want to make another attempt. Prior notes help me to recall the previous hunts and might give me hints on where I went wrong. This is especially true if someone else has found it in the meantime or if the owner has checked on it or repaired something about it then I know its time for a re-hunt.)
