  1. Keep it! I started collecting keychains and would put them on my backpack Until one day after a long hike I decided it was way to heavy. So now I have a rubbermaid container full of cache items to show off to muggeles. Some just don't understand why I hike in minus wind chills and through the woods to gather these things. Oh well somepoeple are just not ment to be cachers, and all the other want to go with us. I also like patches and pins. My better half collect what he calls pirate booty anything like treasure, rocks, coins, jewelry and anything shining. We like the sig items too!
  2. Just found out that I will be going to 2005 National Jamboree. I will be going as the 1st Assistant Scoutmaster of the Gerald R. Ford Council contingent. Yea!!! Scouting and Caching my two favorite hobbies.
  3. As a youth I only made it through cubs and to second class in scouts. However I became involved with the Cub Scout program with my oldest son in 1986 and have been a Webelos Leader, Assistant Scout Master, Unit Commissioner, then a Scoutmasterthe last seven years. We have made many trips with Scouts like white water rafting in WVA., Florida Sea Base twice, spent the night in a cave in Tennesse, and many more adventures too numerous to list. My wife and I work with a Co-ed Venture Crew and all we do is high adventure trips. The Crew has gotten SCUBA certified and will be going back to Sea Base in August to do some diving in the Florida Keys. I have been involved with the Scouts for 17 years and even though our kids are grown and living on there own I plan to work with Scouting for many more years because I belive it to be the one of the best programs to teach youth to become the Leaders of tommorrow.
  4. My husband had two days off from work so we decided to do some caching. We went on thur. and had a no find, so of course went back out on Fri. On this day we went to 'A Tragic Day in May" cache. It is a school that was blown up in 1927 and as we were looking for the clues I started feeling very sad for the children who died and for thier familys, as they would be around my mothers age if still living. As we were looking at the names at the memorial brick walk I almost stated to cry as how one person could take away all these familys and ones that never even had the chance to have one. All at once I had a feeling of peace come over me and the saddness was gone. I didn't really hear a voice, but more like a memory,I heard a little girls voice tell me not to worry about them. They were all playing and having a good time, that they are all OK, and about the family, they are all joinings us one by one. As this voice spoke I could hear children playing in the back ground. At this point I asked my husband if we had all the clues we needed and we returned to our truck. On the way home I asked him if he felt or heard anything ? He said no and then I told him what had happened. Monday I was telling a friend about it and they said this happened on Friday? Yes I said. She said friday was Halloween! Earlier that week I had talked with the childern on my bus about the histrory of Halloween and it was stated that " halloween was a night to honor loved ones that had passed on since the veil between their realm and ours is at it's thinnest on that night." I don't know about that but something happened that day! [This message was edited by scoutingitout on November 04, 2003 at 06:37 PM.]
  5. We experienced this problem when we started. Have you checked your format on your GPS set-up menu? It should read hddd*mm.mmm' We happened to find a cache with just the clues, and found out that something was not right. Our GPS was off by about half a mile with the wrong setting. Hope this helps. The next one will be alot easier.
  6. I also had the same problem with my Garmin 12. And I found that I had go into the setup menu under navigation, and the position format needed to be changed to (hddd'mm.mmm') instead of (hddd'mm'ss.s) This brought my GPS a lot closer to the caches.
  7. Thank you I tried that and it seems to have worked. On to the next cache. Happy cacheing!
  8. What default setting should I be using for geocaching? (hddd.ddddd'),(hddd'mm'ss.s"),or(hddd'mm.mmm')
