  1. If most of the computers in use are using IE why does everyone say that it is Not standards-compliant? That seems to be the same as saying IE is abnormal and all the rest are the normal browsers or VHS format is not standards-compliant, but Beta-Max was. Who determines what is or isn't standards-compliant? John Actually, the comment was that IE6 or lower is non-standards compliant. IE7 is. If you're using IE6 or lower you should either upgrade to IE7 or make the switch to Firefox. So, really to put all this into your analogy: People using IE6 or older are trying to use their VHS machine to play a DVD.
  2. It doesn't get much cleaner or easier than wap.geocaching.com. I use this on my Motorola Q all the time.
  3. I very recently had a new Wherigo/Geocache hybrid cache approved, GC1EE2V. On the Geocache page, I have a link to the Wherigo page. When I edit the cache page, I can see in the long description the fully qualified link to the Wherigo site. When I save the page and view it, it shows up as "Visit Link". When you click on "Visit Link", it just refreshes the Geocache page. In fact, if you just hover over "Visit Link", you can see that the target is the same as the Geocache page. Going back to some of my older caches, they do the same thing... and these are links that worked before. Oh and can someone PLEEEEEEEEASE do something about the gawdawful, headache inducing, blinding PURPLE links???? Thanks!
  4. I think it's going pretty good considering the massive undertaking that this is. You guys are doing a good job, IMHO. I'm liking what I see so far (except for the awful purple links... please make it stop! I'm going blind!) Thanks for taking this on....
  5. WHOA! Visited links are now bright purple and looks TERRIBLE! It's actually almost too painful to surf!
  6. It's on the individual cache page, center large button just below the coordinates. Label on button says "GPX eXchange File". I just tested it's download and import into GSAK. Works just fine. Glens911 are probably using FireFox like me, where the large buttons are gone. Opening the page in IE (v.7 in this case) shows the buttons. /René Just got home from work and used IE7 and there are the buttons. But like you said no buttons in firefox ver 2 The buttons look fine in Firefox for me, but I'm running 3.0.1... Ditto that here... maybe it's FF 2.0 bug?
  7. I mentioned earlier in this thread that I'm using my 15" monitor laptop with no problems. I don't have problems either with IE or with Firefox. My resolution is set at 1280x720. I must have missed that post... glad to know there's others not having issues too!
  8. It will probably be a screen resolution issue, but when we go out caching we take a mini laptop (Asus EEE PC) with us and that has a maximum resolution of 800 x 400 and we can't even see the coordinates anymore. PLEASE SET IT BACK AS BEFORE We are using Windows XP with IE 6 I have another suggestion that may work for you: http://wap.geocaching.com

Good, someone else has this issue too, I thought I was going blind!
  10. Yes, I'm quoting myself, because now I'm at work and I took another look at GC.com, on a 15" laptop, using Firefox 3.0.1, and my screen resolution is 1024x768 and I *still* don't have a right/left scrolling issue. Must be an IE issue or screen resolution issue. I recommend that all GC.com users upgrade to Firefox and set your screen resolution to at least normal size (even 15" monitors support 1024x768)
  11. Seriously? Dial-up still exists?
  12. You know, multiple people have complained about having to scroll right/left to see everything on their screen. I don't have this problem. All the pages render in a usable format on my browser. I do see some of the "extra spacing" issues, but it doesn't make the site unusable. Maybe it would help Groundspeak if those complaining about the left/right scrolling issues post what browser, what size screen, and what resolution they are using. I'll post mine as an example: I have a 19" flat panel, using Firefox 3.0.1, and my screen resolution is 1280x1024.
  13. First of all I want to say thank you to OpinioNate in his quick response to this thread.... I've been away from the computer all day today and am just getting my first look at the new GC.com layout. Some of these comments may be old... but I wanted to respond to some of Nate's comments back to the community. Avatar Size - THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! Nothing was more annoying to me than someone who can't resize their avatar and cause all kinds of formatting issues! Although, I will make one request. As a vast majority of websites (forums, etc) default to 90x90 or 100x100, can you guys take a second look and see if one of these formats will work? You'll have less avatar complaints from the general population that way! Trackables List - Personally, I really like the /my page layout... my *only* wish here reflects that of many others here that the trackables list goes back on the right hand-side. I'm afraid too many trackables will get lost and forgotten if they are "out of sight, out of mind". That makes me less likely to purchase more Travel Bugs (hint, hint, Groundspeak). Bookmark Ratings - Again, THANK YOU! One question about bookmark lists... I didn't see any mention of it, but did you manage to squash the bug that would keep me from switching to page two or three (or more) of a bookmark list? It would say it was on page two or three, but still show page one's bookmarks... Removal of Friend's finds and hides - I'll echo the comments of many... it's now a useless feature. I know who my friends are. I want to know how many hides and finds they have... quickly. I also never had a problem with it being "out-of-date". Those numbers were always accurate for me... and my friends run the gamut of the noob who finds one cache a month to "BackBrakeBilly". As a programmer of sorts myself, I know what an incredible undertaking this must be for Groundspeak and I applaud their efforts at making things better, faster and more reliable for us. Thanks guys! 14. I'm still having this trouble with bookmark lists (Win XP Pro, SP2, Firefox 3)... any time frame of when it's gonna get fixed?
  15. Yeah, I miss it too.. thanks for putting it back on the list.
  16. When I first started caching, I bought a couple of unactivated coins and made laminated paper cards for them and released those. Then, I decided it was more fun to actually release the coin, so I released a couple of those. Both of them made it to Europe and are now missing. NOW I drill holes in my coins, add a "Geocoin Assistant Tag" (from geocoins.net) on a short chain and I superglue the connecting piece (I do this with my TB's too). I realize someone *could* cut the chain, but I'm more concerned with making it more obvious to a noob that the coins are supposed to be traveling and are not collectible trinkets. So far, it's working. Bisch.
