  1. Yup; RICE Rest Ice Compress Elevate Then, see a doctor. sounds like you pulled something...
  2. Well, we have quite a few puzzles here. Some of the styles chosen are different writing codes (Kinda like the one used to decrypt hints, but more complex), book codes, and, the ever popular "ground zero" series, which I thoroughly enjoy. But, again, what one person uses, another may not. So, it could be difficult taking lessons learned from one, and applying to another. Well, except for the ingenuity of the cache hider...
  3. I thought orphans were considered snack items?
  4. Reading the cache page, seems that, before being archived, it was MO. Then, went archived. Once unarchived, was for everyone. Looks like your log reminded the owner that he had it listed as MO. At least, thats what I gleaned from it. dont let it sour you on the sport though. Each person has his/her own game. Enjoy your own game. Let others enjoy theirs. And, most importantly, introduce others to it.
  5. Get hold of someone is Stutgart, or one of the other military bases. Germany is the stop off point for mid east bound troops. A website that may help you is www.magc.com. They are a military geocaching association, and may have resources to help in your quest. Good luck!
  6. Briansnat, that looks like what I pack . I thought I was the only one to carry too much weight...
  7. definitely bring a pen/pencil. I personally log everything into a journal. Pencil beats pen, as it can be sharpened, wont freeze, works when wet, etc. Also, bring a knife. Not a huge Rambo style one, but a small pocketknife. Never know when you need to cut/pry something. Or, clean your fingernails Lastly, extra batteries. You think you will do fine with only 2 bars of battery left, until you get within 500' of the cache. Then, guaranteed, your GPS will die. Better to be prepared... I carry tons of extra stuff, but do so not so much as a precaution, but more out of habit of carrying some significant weight in a backpack
  8. Great, the media is going to portray us all as crazy people hunters now.
  9. I have a Garmin Iqueue 3600 that I use. It does great voice routing, if you pick up the car kit (otherwise it can be a little hard to hear). I also use it for paperless caching, as well as my work PDA. Out of the jeep I put it in a bobmproof case; waterproof & shock resistant. Granted, I cant use the GPS while in the case; but, I have my 60Cx for that
  10. My GPS does it for me. The 60CX sereies have an auto averaging thingy. It takes readings every second or so, and averages them against one another. I think it does a fair job....seems to work for me.
  11. I have found a few clever ones. Not so much the place they were, moreso the camo job. I have found a fake bolt, a bogus stick, & one hidden cleverly in a storm drain. Those are the only ones I recall that were interesting. I am not a huge fan of urbans, especially if placed at some random building or parking lot. But, if its easy, I'll grab it. LPMs are my least fave...I've found a few, and the magic of those are gone. Its not the hunt for those, its if the parking space next to the lamp post is available.
  12. I contracted it a few years back, never developed the symptoms, but came back positive with the blood test. I was on antibiotics for a wekk, and never developed any problems yet. Of course, I attribute most aches & pains nowadays to getting older, er, WISER.
  13. I am trying to get my nephew to do the same. As he is with me alot of the time (I keep a journal of my finds, DNFs, & who is with me), when I get an account for him, I am going to have him logs his finds. After all, he was with me, and found about half of them. Personally, I think its your own choice; be evil, have them find their own, or be nice, and let them log the ones they participated on. Oh, my nephew is 13, and cannot drive, so he HAS to log mine.
  14. I'm short. I take my nephew, who is tall enough to double our height, but light enough to have him use me as a ladder to grab caches. Only had to do it twice so far, but, it works
  15. I just did these yesterday, and like the idea of this. The only thing I dont like is losing the geocache function. But, that was an easy enough glitch to fix.
  16. My FTF I searched for well over an hour. I later found I was about 60' off. I located it on my way walking out, looking randomly around logs, large stones, etc. I was a little angry, as the hint went very well with the area I was searching, and not so much for where it was found. But, thats part of the game. Normally, if I dont find it after about 10-15 mins, I give up. But, again, this was my first FTF, and I had a hard time convincing myslef to quit.
  17. Ducks only reqwire tape if they're quacked. Ok, bad joke. Had to be said though.
  18. I used to be on the search & rescue team here in MA, and, 90% of the time we were searching for alzheimers patients. Only two searches I recall werent for them; one was Molly Bish, and the other was a severely autistic child. The MOlly Bish was more of a "search for evidence" search, as it was over a year later.
  19. Well, good to see I'm not the only one who thinks "200 meters through the woods, straight shot, no problem", then is wandering for over an hour, not even at GZ yet This seems to be my running theme as of late...
  20. Did you go into "GPS" In the toolbar? Then "Send waypoints", there should be a dropdown menu, asking which GPS to use. If that doesnt do it, then I have no clue
  21. When you open easyGPS, go to tools (I think), then GPS, and find new one. Its somewhere in the toolbar. Whats happening is that it is trying to read one device, while you have another plugged in.
  22. Well, you showed excellent resolve, I'll give you that. Good improv too. A cool head is the best tool in those situations, and yours prevailed.
  23. Ugh. Swiss seats are, well, lets just say I know why the swiss yodel
  24. There used to be climbing on the chalk cliffs somewhere. I dont recall EXACTLY where in the UK, but, alot of alipinists used to use it as practice with crampons & ice axes. But, that was years ago. Environmentalists probably shut it down.
