Its easier to show, than do. I have a friend, who I explained it to. I told her that its kinda like hiking, with a treasure hunt. I told her I'd gladly take her sometime. Thats about the best I've come to explaining it.

My experience w/goretex is that it works great for snow, not so much with rain. I find it too hot during anything about 35 or so. I have an army issue wet weather top (new style, not the old stinky ones) that has pit zips. I use this, as it was free, can take the abuse, and stops the rain. I have the pants too, and usually only put those on if I'm out in a field during/after a rain. Goretex is great, in certain weather. Cheap rain slickers work fine, IMHO, in anything above 40.

I owned a 95 wrangler a few years back, & sold it (was a 2.5L). Eventually bought a sportscar (near midlife crisis). Well, after owning that for 2 years, and selling off my jeep, I REALLY missed owning a wrangler. So, I bought another one this past august. Got the 6 speed 6 cyl wrangler. I've since put a modest 2" lift, and 31" tires on in. The only other mod I have planned is a new front bumper (stock ones look pretty wimpy). The heat in it is fine, road noise isnt bad, and, well, the new models have a FAR easier way to take the softtop off! And, I love driving around on nice days with the top down. The downsides of wranglers are their gas mileage, as has been stated. If you dont plan on abusing your jeep, you can make it off road capable for less than a grand. A 2" budget lift is $200 or so, and can be installed in 90 minutes. Then, 31" tires, and you're set. If youre seriously worried about getting stuck, get a hi-lift jack, and some tow cables, so you can self-recover. Skid plates are cheap, or, if you have access to tools, dadgum near free, as you can make your own. My brother, when he's home, makes all kinds of armor for his jeep. IMHO, if you want to take something offroad, go Jeep. The more dents & dings, the better it looks

Wow, what a pleasant surprise in the mail today. A truly beautiful coin. I cannot say thank you enough. This was WONDERFUL. On top of that, I've hads a crappy past few weeks, and this just more than made up for it. again, thank you. A true work of art.

Just found this thread today! Only have a stock pic of it, the day after I bought her new (06 Wrangler, I was heartbroken after seeling my '95, and had to get another one!): Sincs I've bought her, I have 31" tires, a 2" lift, 55w ProComp offroad lights, and am picking up a bumper with my tax returns. Next, a winch!

I know this isnt specifically geocaching related, but, it IS outdoor stuff. I am looking to get rid of some of my gear I dont use. I have a synthetic 35* ultralight sleeping bag, with compression sack and storage bag, only used for a weekend. I got a down bag for christmas, so, I dont need this one. I would like to get $50 + shipping for it. I also have a gregory internal frame pack. It is a model that was issued to Army special forces. I looked on their site, and cannot find the model name. This this is 6000+ C.I. storage. Top loading, with a removeable bivy pad on the front. Also has 4 removeable side pockets. This thing is bombproof. I only used it a few times, and is still in like new condition. I would like $200 + shipping for this. I will furnish pictures upon request. I'd like to give fellow cachers a chance at this stuff before I auction it off online. PM me for pics. Thanks!

I input the wrong coords into my GPS, by hand, yesterday...causing me to miss a new england event. Of course, I neither brought the sheet with me, nor DLed it to GSAK....simply plugged & went. Finally got home, after 2 hrs of driving around, & figured out my mistake.

I heard SOMETHING crashing through the woods today..and, it was big. Big enough to knock over a dead tree. It was quite a ways ahead of me...but, I started wistling, loudly, as soon as I heard the first crash.

Thank you both...for the life of me today I couldnt remember the word "cipher" I had codec stuck in my head...these were excellent suggestions. Thanks.

I posted in your other thread...ask Alberio.

I have! Most recently, at the western MA cache & coffee. Not sure who it belongs to, but Alberio had it last.

Ok, I am looking to start a puzzle cache, and am looking for different ways to encrypt the hints. Specifically, different types of writing the the description so that it is encoded, and will require a certain key to break it. All I keep finding, online, naturally, are ways to encrypt things online, which is not what I was looking for. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

name the things that you take on all/most of your finds

I carry a backpack full of stuff. But, I have attached a st. anthonys medal to my gps, for a little extra luck -
Yes, I have that planned for my TB. Its good that you emailed the owner though. But, typically, you dont need permission, as its not doin anything special, ending its trip there.

Shoo goo. Works awesome. Phask, I leave em in caches all the time Army recruiters give them away as keychains...feign interest. Or, have a kid do it. Other than that, I've seen small one in walmart and other stores for $5 or so.

Anamorphosis Street Art
oldsoldier replied to chstress53's topic in Recruitment and Category Proposals Archive (Read-Only)
I recall reading the article about that artist last year. He uses only chalk IIRC, and didnt WANT any of it to be permanent. Again, this was last year, so, who knows what he is up to now. I am not an art fan, but, I have to say, the things he creates are amazing. It was a new concept, and I can definitely appreciate that. -
Jeeps and other 4x4 caching tools
oldsoldier replied to Andy&Sarah's topic in General geocaching topics
I went on one that I almost got stuck on, the first week I bought my new jeep. I will be starting a new 4x4 TB there this weekend. I THINK its called town lines cache. IT can be walked to, alot have driven in. Me, I drove out a different went, alone, and almost paid the price for it -
Wow, this thread went south mighty quick. Time to put on the tough guy act here. Call your "people". You are apparently important enough to bring down the civilized world, you make $70+/hour, and carry on like a 12 year old. We are all tired of it. Shut your yap, or have geocaching banned in america. If I hear one more damned word about who owns what tree in PA, my dad is gonna go kick your dads butt. Then, you can call your friends cousins wx-wifes dogwalkers domestic partners kid to bring ths site, and all the walmart micros, down. Until then, go to bed, and stop trying to impress us. you lost us with your bragging. Now, you're just getting flamed. If I get banned, so be it. I get bored REAL fast of people who threaten with alleged power. You have nothing. Deal with it. The world is filled with wannabes...your just one more of the millions. No one cares.
-
So, are the walmart LPCs banned yet? I am waiting for the shoe to drop... In all honesty though, I undertsand your anger. But, decisions made in anger are quite often regretted later. No offense, but, if you gotta throw names around, you are dealing with inadequacy issues. I dont care one way or another who you're related to, who walks you dog, etc; you come off throwing names and threats, people are gonna react. A mature conversation begins with an open mind, not an open mouth.
-
Um, did his threat follow through? Are walmart lamp post caches REALLY banned? I had dinner with the president once. The first Bush. And, sat next to Colin Powell. Does that make me cooler than him?

Well, after almost 4 yrs of GCing, I FINALLY ordered my first set of wooden nickels. I got tired of trading items (a while ago, actually), and have been searching for something unique to drop off. I will reveal my coins as soon as they arrive! Hopefull,y next week.

Look for unusual things as well. UPS (unusual pile of sticks) and UPRs (unusual pile of rocks) normally stand out. Remember; sticks dont fall in groups, and small rocks in a particular order are usuallly the result of human interaction

They offer camoed ones too. Set them off a little bit off the path, note it in the cache description, and you should be fine. We ahave a local one here that has the white ones part of the way, then they switch to the camo ones, so you cant find it during the day (in theory, as a few people have).

GPS? GArmin GPS60Cx Time caching? HArdcore, since may 05 How did you find out about it? I think the first gps I bought in like 2000 had something mentioned with it... Most in a day? 17 FTFs? Only one. Thats all I need How do you take your listings with you? PDA (cachemate Favourite 5 caches found excluding events (no getting out of this one!) I honestly dont recall...I did a series of 4 while hiking in NH with my nephew for a few days, those were memorable for the good times we had that weekend. I did this one 3 days after buying my new jeep What roughly is your "Found" to "Did Not Find" ratio? 115 finds, something like 7 DNFs How many caches in the dark have you found? A local micro, named something like "I hate micros IV" or something. By the desription alone I knew where it was. Hardest find? Another urban micro, that is hidden on a greenway between 2 busy streets. I've DNFed it twice, due to muggles. Hardest puzzle completed? Havent done any really hard ones to date Hardest puzzle yet to complete? There are several in the area, I have yet to do. One, I have to get a second half of the coords from a cache that seems to constantly disappear.
