I've lurked here for some time now and have had on occasion a chance to truly get through one of Vinny N Sues rants. This one is by far completely agreeable. If someone leaves their card and are hoping for free advertisement it should be my duty to call them out. On the other hand is does not bother me when I see business cards. maybe I'll leave my business card for the cacher who looks for the cache seven times and finally finds it in an obvious spot and wants to off themselves. Maybe not. OOPS sorry for the gratuitous advertising. TCS

Best GPS for reception?
Team Crime Scene replied to Pirates 4 Loot's topic in GPS technology and devices
Love my Garmin 60Csx. That being said we are in Florida with little, well truth is there are no hills. There are however deep swamps and the tree canopy can be very dense. The garmin works well there. -
Love mine as well.

Team Crime Scene replied to MaplessInSeattle's topic in General geocaching topics
Congratulations...Can't speak for everyone but with 75 FTF's I still get excited. There is nothing like being the : first to desecrate a new log......... -
I think I've been there....

Seeing things differently has been a quiet plus to my addiction. I also have a newfound love for the outdoors and out of the way places. It's amazed me that we have a world class environment right here in our back yard. It's not the tree covered mountains or the rivers flowing through the meadows. I have fallen in love with the South Florida swamps mosquitoes, gators otters, pigs and all. I've never been much of a photographer but I now carry a small camera "Just in case". Oh yea and the silly obsession with seeing Light poles, small trees and Guardrails differently.

Tried this very same thing today. The right thing suggested was to archive the old cache and place a new one in our profile. Were on the way to owning a new cache!!

Garmin 60cs in tree cover
Team Crime Scene replied to doobie doo3's topic in GPS technology and devices
There's a lot of factors that will make a GPS go haywire. Trees being one of them. I also have the Garmin 60 and it has been great in tree cover so far. You didn't mention how close you were. When I get less than 50 feet I resort to a "GEOsense rather than the GPS. Just start looking. -
I have one that came with My new back pack from Gerber purchased at Bass Pro Shop. It wouldn't be hard to replicate it. http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb198/a...00/100_0917.jpg And one withthe GPS in place Cache on, TCS

One of the best hikes I have gone on had a grapefruit tree 5 miles into the middle of the swamp. That was a great find.. -

Secret Words or.......
Team Crime Scene replied to Black Dragons's topic in General geocaching topics
I've found that "Hi, are you a geocacher?" works pretty well. If I just get a blank look back, I assume they look like that all the time, and move on. If they express interest, I'll briefly explain it to them. Agreed......If your near GZ a simple did ya find it? works well also. -
Geocaching in your area.
Team Crime Scene replied to GreatCanadian's topic in General geocaching topics
SW Florida we have our share... Ticks, spiders, wasps, fire ants, Snakes, panthers, wild hogs and let's not even get to the gators. But truly the scariest is the wandering "may be homeless" people you may encounter in the swamp.... Bowie knife and a hiking stick..
