  1. Maybe it's the garlic bread, shrimp scampi, and garlic spring rolls?
  2. Congrats on the milestone. I've been out hiking a LOT, but not much geocaching - hope to see you out on the trails sometime!
  3. Congratulations on the milestone!
  4. Stephen's State park is right next to Mount Olive - there's several great caches there. For a nice view (and a decent workout) - check out "Alamuchy Climber Cache".... Brian's suggestions are spot on - but if you want to stay close to Mt Olive - Alamuchy (aka Stephens) is right around the corner. Have fun...
  5. I attended the wake today. There were tons of pictures of Helmut and his family displayed from all parts of his life. Lots of smiles, happy times outdoors, even school pictures of his childhood. While my heart was heavy - the pictures were uplifting and reminded me of how he embraced life and enjoyed his time with his family and friends. May he rest in peace - and may we remember to live every day to the fullest.
  6. I can't even find the words to express my sorrow at hearing this. My thoughts are with his family. We're all better off for having known Helmut - and worse off with his sudden departure. I'm going to try and attend the wake. Please post if there's a fund being setup in his behalf.
  7. Silvermarc and Candover are both in Manhatten... they are the only ones I know. DBoggNY is about as NYC as you can get. I don't know how active he's been - but he's a great person to contact about caching in NYC. I thought at one time he was leading tours of the Central Park caches!
  8. Congrats Brian - just got around to reading my "trailwalker" tonight - was great seeing a friend on the front page!
  9. Congratulations!!! Being a dad is so much fun - I can't even begin to imagine how much fun it must be to be a grandpa....or a great grandpa! Congrats again!
  10. Bike's sold. (and I hope to see Marty, Entropy's edge, and everyone else out riding soon!). Maybe I'll even get back to geocaching - hey, I rode the bike to a geo-event the other night! Gotta log at least 1 cache a year!
  11. Not to sound like a jinx or anything, but I'll bet ya anything if you live through your first major bike accident you will go back to that gear. Trust me on this; scrubbing asphalt out of your skin is one of the most painful things you can endure and still live. Not to mention 25yrs later the stuff they didn't get out of my skin looks like I missed a few spots in the shower. And a full-face helmet is one of the things that saved my life 15yrs ago. You wouldn't give up the airbags and seatbelts in your car just 'cause you didn't get in an accident in the last 10,000 miles, would ya? I'm betting that if I live through my first major bike accident - I'll probably just give up riding and take up something less dangerous like skydiving. Maybe I'll get back to geocaching again!
  12. Power rangers jacket is available (I'll throw it in). I'd forgotten about that jacket - I think it's sitting in our basement somewhere. Funny how things change. Used to be riding in a BRIGHT jacket (for visibility), only on rural roads, full face helmet, gloves, full gear. Last night - rode in to NYC with 15 friends in a t-shirt with a shorty helmet. Ekitty would be proud. Demp - get a bike! It's the most fun you can have in public with your clothes on!!!!
  13. Just upgraded from a 750 to a 1450 after two years of riding. The 750 was the perfect bike for me to start on - I just wanted something bigger for longer tours.
  14. Gas costs for geocaching trips taking their toll? I'm selling my 2003 Honday Shadow 750 ACE (American Classic Edition) bike. One owner - very clean - and a great way to get around to geocaches while keeping gas costs in check! Lots of fun for under $5,000 and it averages about 45 MPG. If a geocacher with a Rino buys it - I'll even throw in the garmin handlebar mount I used! It's a great bike and lots of fun..... Anyway - if you're interested (or know someone who might be interested) - you can get more details here. - Hart
  15. Big deal. Ok...seriously - congrats to a really nice cacher!
  16. Ha! I have a motorcyle AND a canoe. I've found caches with both. Life is good. "I am Elmer J Fudd - Millionaire. I own a mansion und a yacht."
  17. I see 908, 609, and 201 area codes....how about 732?
  18. Wasn't this the picture of the slate of officers at a recent meeting?
  19. Ok, I admit it. I was gullable enough to check www.nnjc.org. I guess it's still under construction.
  20. Congratulations to some of the nicest geocachers I've ever met! Oh, yeah - and congrats to Helmut too for driving them all around! Seriously - congrats to all on the milestone. You guys are a blast to hike with and I hope to run into you all again soon!
  21. I answered the question via email.
  22. I'm almost positive that if you want to load add-on maps to a Garmin GPS - they gotta be Garmin Mapsource maps. The 120/130's come with a basemap of North America that's pretty good - but doesn't have terrific detail. I ended up buying both the Metroguide and Topo Mapsource packages. (Top for geocaching, Metroguide for driving!).
