  1. It did help me some....I now know that I can delete any exposure to my bug, however, it would still require that the "finder" re-log the "grab" or "placement" to keep the bug on track.......Maybe Jeremy can work on this in his "spare time"? It would be nice to be able to just remove the image. Maybe it's possible, but I did not see a way to do this as an owner. I have seen the option to put the image into the trashcan on the cache log page, though. Gotta go get some RedHook......BRB in awhile.....
  2. OK........was not able to delete only the image....had to delete the entire log.
  3. Have tried to just email the owners, and 8 out of 10, don't reply...... When I post a note.......8 out of 10, just don't care.......... I have had to email those who have logged my Travel Bugs and included the secret number in their log. After explaining the issues involved, they finally did edit their log. Have not had the situation arrive yet, where a finder posts a picture of the bugs number, so am not sure if I can delete uploaded images from my bug's page or not......will cross that bridge when I get to it. If you want to test it, give me your bug's page URL and I'll post a pic and you can see if you can delete it. If not, then I'll delete it when we're done. (It's cold and rainy, and I'm bored) I just emailed you.....Sparky
  4. My note only says "A virtual find...", I am not shouting out that "Hey, look, theres the number, etc....." I figure that the owner will get the message......, If not, they will email me, and I will be more than happy to explain the "virtual find" and the dangers of leaving the number exposed.

  6. I think you will have to "grab" it again......in which case, you will need to have the bug's serial number from the tag.
  7. Have been cruising lists of Travel Bugs lately, looking for owner posted images of their bug with the serial number exposed. When I leave a note saying it's a "virtual find", my profile reflects it as a "find"......my intention is only to warn the owner that by exposing the "secret number", they are running the risk that an unscrouplious (sp) person could send their bug to China, or worse yet, to the Travel Bug Graveyard. There was an earlier topic asking: "Why do you not want to post the Travel Bug's number....". I personally would not do anything malicious, since I do own TBs myself. But, I figure this way: if the number is exposed, then I can post a note and get the credit for a virtual find. I have also noticed that one could just add a note without having the number and still get the bug counted. This, I think, is a chink in the armor of Travel Bug security. Well folks, what do you think, JayBee
  8. Bazzle, Checked out your Personal TB.....if you are going to back track on all your cache visits though, you are going to have a very long list. for every "placement" and "retreival" there will be an entry, so the list will end up being twice as long as it has to be. The trick is: delete all of the "retreived" entries, then the TB just jumps from one to the next without losing any mileage. Checkout my own Personal TB called: Reptar Personal Travel Bug at http://www.geocaching.com/track/track_detail.asp?ID=39858. You will see what I mean. Good luck ''Having an open mind is just fine....as long as you have something to pour into it.'' (Neru?)
  9. Have I missed something lately?.....used to be that you could see a listing of Travel Bugs owned while looking at a users' stat page. It's kinda fun seeing what others are doing with their TB's and it also gives you an idea of their character if they happen to be the one that has your TB in their possesion at the time. Now when I click on the TB icon on the "owned" side of the stats page, all I get is something about searching for travel bugs. Anyone else notice this? ''Having an open mind is just fine....as long as you have something to pour into it.'' (Neru?)
  10. Yes, I see that works....seems I tried that before but maybe was not including the TB prefix. Thank you for the helpful tip. JayBee ''Having an open mind is just fine....as long as you have something to pour into it.'' (Neru?)
  11. What is this used for? Anyone know?.....you always see this at the top of the TB's page: ''Use TB9BB2 to reference this Travel Bug.''. I cannot find anyplace to use this type of number to either track TBs or find them. I do know better than to 'post' the TB's Serial Number either on a cache page or note on the TB's page and have seen other reference to only using the ''Reference Number''.....but how? Thanx in advance, JayBee [This message was edited by JayBee & LitLens on July 25, 2003 at 02:08 PM.]
  12. My solution is: Place Travel Bugs in "Subscription Caches" only. I think your going to have better luck getting someone who paid the $30/year for membership,to pay attention to the procedures for retrieving and placing the TB. I currently have (2) TBs in the 'wild' right now and both are being held captive. One by a "nubee" and the other by a "seasoned" member. So, go figure....I think they both have good intentions but are taking a break from GC'ing for a bit. I myself am guilty of that right now, trying to get some things done on my house during the good weather and long days. I will not be 'releasing' any more TBs into caches other than "Members Only"....in fact I do have a bug named "Members Only" who's goal is to travel to as many states as possible, visiting "Members Only". I know that this might sound 'cruel' to the "non-members", but that's the way I feel about it. I'm tired of emailing people to get them to properly "log" the TB. It should not be such a big problem, maybe geocaching.com can make that part easier.....if that happens, then I will consider putting TB's back into the "public" caches. JayBee
  13. I put my Travel Bugs in a 'FoodSaver' or 'Seal-A-Meal' vacuum bag with a printout of the bug's webpage. Have gotten a lot of comments about the 'unique' container, but it does seem to help keep all the 'info' together. Have also written on the bag: "Please DO NOT OPEN", hoping that will also keep all the 'info' together as it travels. The 'vacuum sealing' is also my 'SI'....I put all my 'trade items' in them.....helps with the dreaded 'cache leakage' problems, and the items are as fresh when 'grabbed' as they are when 'dropped'....'FoodSaver Rules!!!' 14. Already got my first reply from the 'Pocket Query'.......very cool. Thanx again, JayBee
  15. Had to 'edit' my posts...I HATE IT when I mis-spell... My first time on the forum....awesome results so far......thank you all so much. JayBee
  16. Cool....I think I found it...there IS an option for: "Are for members only ".... I will try it and see what I get. Have been looking for a "safe" place to leave a Travel Bug. Thank you very much for the tip, JayBee [This message was edited by JayBee & LitLens on June 25, 2003 at 10:21 PM.]
  17. Q: Is there any way to filter your search for nearest caches by: Subscription or Members Only? I have not seen anything which lets me do that....maybe I've missed something. JayBee [This message was edited by JayBee & LitLens on June 25, 2003 at 10:22 PM.]
