  1. First I would like to say being able to search without trashing through all the caches that you've already done is a great timesaver for the user. I hopes this also reduces the server load. I like many others would like a check box selection of either what you do, or don't, want to display in the results. I also like the "home coordinates" search from the "My Cache" page as it is the quickest way to do a search (other than paging past all the already found entries). Two clicks and you're off. I could live with a postal code search if that is less load on the server but you should be able to pre-define a default postal code on your profile page. I think that both things could be accomidated by adding prefered search result checkboxes to the user's profile page. This way you still get the two click access with the reduced list size. If you wanted to do a different type of search you could still use the "Hide and Seek" page (which doesn't have the filters yet) Mark
  2. I was at Freeway Cahce last month and don't recal seeing any Poison Ivy but the nettles were huge and encroaching into the trail. I have more trouble with nettles than anything else on the eastside. Mark
  3. So did anyone make that torch into a travel bug? Hey if you want some fun have someone haul your bikes to the parking lot and drop you off. From there it's an easy 25 mile ride (downhill) to North Bend with a stop at rattlesnake lake. There are lots of cool bridges and an area where some people rock climb. It only takes a few hours and kids can do it easily. Mark
  4. Hey I've been meaning to ask this and I know this is probably not the correct forum but.... What is the proper etiquette for your DNF log entires, once you suceed at finding the cache? I notice that some people change the DNF entires to finds and others leave the original DNF then make a new found entry. Mark
  5. I might show up. I'll be the one carrying the stop sign. Mark
  6. Thanks Pepper, CC, EGH. And a late happ b-day to EGH and and early one to Pepper! For that matter an earlier happy birthday to all listening! Marcus
  7. Just a note to let you know that you are not alone. I'm knocking on wood that it hasn't happened to me... yet. Read April 28th Marcus
  8. March 30th I was doing a rather long (5 hour) Micro Multi Cache and was searching with my sons and a fabulous viewpoint. Suddenly my son and I both called out quote: found it at the same time. What was weird is that he was 20 feet from me. It seems two different geocachers wanted to show off this viewpoint. The cache my son found was fairly new. The second cacher was not really at fault because the web site doesn’t show the intermediate waypoints in a multi. We had a good laugh over it. Marcus
  9. Hmmm Bears and pepper spray? It reminds me of some old sage advice I'd heard long ago. First try to avoid wild animal encounters by making noise as you walk. Pinning little bells to your jacket will do the trick. Second be prepared! If you have nothing else, always carry a little can of pepper spray. Next learn to look for signs of wild animals nearby. Look for scat on the trail. A vegitarian animal will leave pellets and is nothing to worry about. Carnivore scat will have hair in it. Grizzy scat contains little bells and smells like pepper! Marcus
  10. Make that 3 B-days. May 6th every year. Marcus
  11. Wait a minute, this sounds like the formation of a colalition against the Dr. Ufo Koska and his evil minions. If we're going to do this we must be careful as these evil supergenius's can get squirly when they're cornered! Marcus
  12. Shoot it's 12 now. I don't usually bother with the forums (see no avitar) but this sounds fun. Oh wait, I remember this one, they could be there for hours! Marcus I got there too late and spent another 45 minutes of fruitless searching. Oh well back to Uncle Sam's extortion. [This message was edited by MarcusArelius on April 05, 2003 at 02:13 PM.]
  13. OK we really do need a 12 step program for geocacheing addicts! Jeez people stop and smell the roses! Marcus
  14. You also need to consider the environmental impact regardless of who owns the land. For example, will mud from all the digging run off into streams? Marcus
  15. I don't know about web sites but the if you have a mapping GPS unit you may already have the information. The map built-in to the Garmin legend has the equivalent of the highway services signs in the database. You can click on an freeway exit to get a list of services within a couple miles of the exit.
