  1. Sounds like a lot of fun. I wish that I could make it but I'll be over on the dry side. Make sure to record your tracks for the NW trails project!
  2. Paddle on left side to spin right Paddle on right side to spin left Paddle on alternate sides to go forward Paddle harder on left side to veer right Paddle harder on right side to veer left Stick the end of the paddle down in the water to stop. Stick the end of the paddle down on alternate sides if you want to stop straight. Paddle backwards if you want to back up Go over wakes and waves head on, not sideways. There's more stuff that's good to know, but those are the basics. Like have a firm hold of something when you attempt to get out. Right?
  3. BTW please list what you can bring. Mine is a Perception Express 9' 5" rotomolded sit inside bare bones kayak. 39 Lbs. Paid $250 at Joes for it (no accessories included).
  4. For those that don't know for several years I have owned a rather large, and heavy, 16' Coleman canoe that I used to transport on the top on a van. When I replaced the van with a truck I had to start hauling it on a trailer. Last summer I dragged what someone nicknamed "Shamoo" all around the state. To make a long story short I have finally downsized to a 39 pound under 10' kayak that I can toss in the bed of my pickup. During my research (men don't shop) I was a bit dismayed that I couldn't test paddle the "yak" and often could not even sit in them. Since Hydnsek was also in the market we pooled our research and ask fellow water cachers for their opinions. Since several of us now own different models of short kayaks I proposed that we hold an event to try out each other's kayaks. I thought this would be a good chance for any other cachers that were interested in making a kayak purchase to try before you buy. Or to find out if they are really interested in paddling at all. I am posting to gather info before posting the event. What do y'all think? Would you want to attend? If you have any type of hand-launch paddle craft could you bring it? Does June 14, or 21, sound like a good day? I though we'd spend about 1-2 hours for folks to try each others boats on short little paddles (and for people without boats to try them out too). That would be the "event". I think Enatai Beach (I-90 just west of I-405) would be a good spot since the water is clean and they have a boat rental shop there. The rental shop is so the boat-less people can join us for after event caching up the Mercer slough. That would add another couple of hours of paddle practice. Folks that are not comfortable paddling by themselves could rent a double and go with an experienced person to get the water caches. http://www.ci.bellevue.wa.us/enatai_beach_park.htm Prices (first hour/addtl hour): Canoe or Single Kayak $17/$8 Double Kayak $23/$10 Single SOT $11/$5 Double SOT $13/$6
  5. Make sure to check out the Big Agnes at REI.
  6. How else are you going to know were you are after the crash?
  7. I am one of those that don't like to be confined but good luck finding a good quality non-mummy bag. One that's not for a kids sleepover. I gave in and went with a mummy. They do save weight and I don't use it all that often anyway.
  8. Yeah, the terrorist is going to get a passport and pay for a plane ticket and secretly record coords while on a sightseeing bus when all they really need to do is go into thier local internet cafe and bring up google maps. I also think the cruise ships are concerned about piracy but conficating GPSr and radios don't really help when they provide cell towers and internet access (as noted above).
  9. Wow, so how long did the 60C stay in the cache?
  10. I like the size and general boudaries. Delimiting by county or grid line will not matter to me. Folks near a boundary will end up loading two tiles anyway. Did I say thank you this week?
  11. I think it's great to have all the new trail data! Having something (even if the quality is suspect) is better than having nothing. I say we all just need to get out and validate it. I like the trail mapping events idea. Yes, they could be events since the main purpose would not be to find caches. Of course if you happened to walk by one.... or two.... I also think segmenting the data would be good if it was easy to do. I assume it would work the same way as City Navigator does. I have plenty of storage space but it still takes time to reload as the updates come out (not that I mind).
  12. BC is a little too far north but if you hike in the US Northwest we now have a great hiking resourse thanks to a local geocacher. NW Trails
  13. Saw it some months ago. Wrote down all the easter egg clues and went out and grabbed the 2 million . I never told anyone about that before.
  14. The other thing to note is that our ferries often get shuffled around between runs so one particular boat may not always be on the intended run. Our ferries are operated by Washington state (not a company) and are treated like bridges. We all know what happens when you put a cache on a bridge right? Standardized boats, yeah right, this is the government we are talking about.
  15. Now he's wondering if he beats the boss's count will he still get the raise?
  16. The guy's lucky that the woman was a geocacher and not a paintballer. Aiming is everything.
  17. Not if you're following the guy in the kilt I might be able to go this weekend. But I've had enough rain so.......
  18. They meant geo-cast as mentioned in another thread.
  19. That's what I do. I never want any of the typical McJunk found in most urban area caches, and I don't want the added weight in my pack from tons of trade items. I do try to keep a few small items (2-packs of AA batteries, camper's biodegradable toilet paper with dispenser, disposable poncho, etc.) handy for leaving in the occasional exception cache. Caches that require significant hikes usually have better swag, but we're back to the equation trade items = added weight. Diito, I choose to be part of the solution. I usually only trade for sig items. But currently leave stuffed animals in caches that ar large enough. THey don't weight that much (yep even on long hikes).
  20. By golly you are right! When my "Is not active" test returned 150 entries within 20 miles I ASSUMED it included Archived too. Sheesh that's a bunch of disabled caches. I guess I'm SOL unless I can remeber the date or name from my found listing. Jeremy..... got a minute?
