  1. Firmware upgrades? I haven't had to update yet, but aren't these just files that need to be uploaded to your GPS? If I'm given a .zip file from the gps maker, I'll just download it, unzip it, then drag it onto the mounted volume icon (that is my GPSr) on my desktop. Please enlighten me if it's different.
  2. This thread might be of interest to all Mac users: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=157896 The only thing you currently NEED Windows for is put maps on your GPSr. Everything else can be done easily and quickly on OSX. Why even bother with Windows? It's just a headache.
  3. If you retire you won't have any more cool stories to tell.
  4. Pocket Queries only do 500 at a time. So no, you can't do it at once. But in groups of 500, yes you can. You have to be a premium member to do that, though.
  5. Definitely check out GPSBabel, it's what I currently use with my Power Mac G5. I've created a website for MUGs (Mac-using geocachers) http://chimbisimo.googlepages.com If you look at the Resources page I cover all of the Mac/GPS/Geocaching software out there.
  6. GPSBabel, available at http://gpsbabel.org Works with most operating systems, most gps and is FREE. And if you want to view the gpx files then Watcher is the best free viewing program for Windows. Available at http://www.clayjar.com/ GPSBabel gets my vote.
  7. Do NOT get GSAK if you use a Mac, unless you can also run Windows off of your machine.
  8. My eXplorist plays very well with my Mac. I have an eXplorist 500 and love it. I created a website for MUGS (Mac-using geocachers). http://chimbisimo.googlepages.com
  9. Or use Boot Camp which is free. The only thing you NEED a PC for is to upload maps to your GPSr. Everything else can be done using a Mac, and done very easily. I currently use GPSBabel. I've created a website for MUGs (Mac-using geocachers), specifically those who use eXplorists. http://chimbisimo.googlepages.com
  10. Load My Tracks is very basic, whereas GPSBabel can do it all.
  11. Use Google Maps on your PDA. Or import the maps as images to your PDA. Or just import the directions (no map images) to your PDA.
  12. You can't delete geocache files or edit them, while in the field.
  13. I'm loving my 500LE. It came with the Mapsend software but I use a Mac and it's not compatible. But that hasn't slowed me down. The only thing that I don't like about the unit is the geocaching system. It's just... incomplete. So instead of geocaching using the unit's built-in Geocaching file system, I just use the Point-of-Interest system and it works great.
  14. I think the PodCachers' first date was a geocache hunt. But in general, it's pretty nerdy but with a fun girl it could be fun. You can do a real one or make one up for her. Make sure it's not a DNF - that would be anti-climactic.
  15. I use the Point of Interest system rather than the Geocaching system. MUCH easier and more versatile to use. I have a 500 LE.
  16. I've created a website for MUGs - Mac-using-geocachers, particularly those using eXplorists: http://chimbisimo.googlepages.com For the moment I find GPSBabel more than sufficient to move POIs to my GPS. You don't need anything to incorporate Google Earth because it reads .loc and .gpx files. I prefer GPSBabel over LoadMyTracks because LMT is very short on options. Of course, LMT is very easy to use. I don't have an Intel Mac so I haven't had a chance to do any work with maps and my eXplorist.
  17. Yeah. Make sure you don't run up the bill playing around with it!
  18. You just have to re-download them from geocaching.com and then replace the old caches with the new updated ones. I don't think there's any way (currently) for your pda or computer to update your caches without logging on to geocaching.com.
  19. If it's giving you a hard time try GPSBabel.
  20. Mine came with the cable. I assume all others do, too.
  21. Good luck! Palm Springs? I really enjoyed the Araby caches - and the other caches up in that same area.
  22. I can run 14 mph with a backpack on and a GPS in one hand.
