Markwell, that name sounds familiar. Haven't posted in 8-9 years and I got a month or two before my tenth anniversary. BunkerDave still around? Some of his out in Utah are still my favorite caches. And BBnot2Busy sent us places we still go back to. briansnat and majicman rings a bell too. Cache away.

Wow, has this place changed or what? I guess I hadn't noticed some new buttons. I clicked on "send to gps" on a few geocaching pages. Then in the pop up window I "wrote" to the gps. Then I disconnected and connected my gps to my mac and "received" my data. Now those geocaches are on my Mac computer map as well as my nuvi gps. Thanks geocaching that was a lot easier than seven years ago. Once I was punching the long/lat in by had at 5 in the morning an I transposed a number two hours later I was on the edge of MuleyTwist drop off trying to get to a coordinate which was actually twenty feet off the cliff face.

I found my first cache in May of 2001 back when there were 13 caches in Massachusetts. Still caching but only lurking at the forum since way back when. No reason other than I would rather be outside than posting. But since I just picked up a Garmin nuvi 750 and I just downloaded Bobcat since I am solely Macintosh I come here to figure out what I can do. So what can I do? 1) A geocaching.loc file does not seem compatible with Bobcat. What's the quick and easy way to download selected caches? 2) The map inside Bobcat is just a rough map. Can I somehow get the more complex map off the nuvi and into Bobcat or do I have to buy it. Which map is the better buy? I'll be searching for the answers here meanwhile I just nailed another state and two new countries. St Martins, both Dutch and French.

No kidding on both counts. It used to be you could download a whole state's worth of caches and each one was cool to visit. Now it is a blizzard of boring caches on top of the next that aren't worth logging. Still a lot of fun even if I'm driving through Utah (while driving my family crazy) saying, "there's one, and there is one to the right, and there is one under that tree up there." I may only log one a year but it's a doozy. I think I'm down to one post here a year but I stop by and read them occasionally.

I get the same "session expired etc" no matter what I use. I thought it might have been OSX 10. 2.2 so I tried 1.5 then OS9 then OS 8. I tried Internet Explorer, Chimera, Omniweb and Mozilla 1.2.1. Then I figured it's one of those Mac things so I tried Interent Explorer on two different PC's. I tried morning afternoon and late at night. This would be a great idea. FWIW MacGPS Pro just went MacOSX last night. MacOSX just went 10.2.2 last night. Having an OSX program that just managed my waypoints and routes would make it a trifecta.

I had heard of these flares but never had an easy way to track them. My family thought, (let's just put up with Dad), when I dragged them to the supermarket parking lot in the town next door. But when I counted down and pointed at the quickly brightening -8 Iridum they thought it was pretty cool. Even though I had read all the, "much brighter then I would have thought", I was still surprised at how bright it was. Why don't they put a nice mirror on the ISS?

Well I suppose when everyone knows what the hex code meant and used the search it would get boring around here. I bopped into "getting started" and the top one one was, "how do I put a wapoint into my etrex. Before I could pass on a nugget of wisdom it was answered already. I'm feeling like a newbie with this Magellan Sport Trac Pro. What did I learn today? If you have 500 GC waypoints in it then Boston cannot been seen at certain mag resolutions because it is wall to wall GCXXXX. So that brings up a thread that never has a good answer, why don't we rate caches so I can download just the "good" ones? (Just kidding, I know this ain't happening). Tomorrow I do a couple of benchmarks. Today I got to drive a Shelby Cobra. (My GPS recorded 101mph) Bummer the Magellan doesn't have a max speed like the Etrex.

This place is still a treasure trove of information although I'm still looking for the least bizarre way to do the "Magellan Hula" to unlock averaging without looking like a total whack-nut. In my searches I find my first post in May, 2001 which was adding to a geocaching wish-list. Reading my three wishes I now find that all my wishes havee been answered. I have the site send me an email with my nearest 500 caches in a form that my GPSR easily digests. Very nice. But what is this? 500 caches gets me only 80 miles out and my GPS screen is wall to wall GChex code!. Yeow, soemone has been busy. When I started there were 2,000 caches in the database. Looks like there are a few more now. A cruise through the forums looks about the same as a year ago except I don't recognize the names. I hope Bunkerdave and Clayjar etc. are just lurking while a new batch of users answer all the questions. The flaming threads all have a familiar ring to them. Except maybe the "cachepolice" one. Don't really know what to make of that one except people might be taking the game and themselves too seriously (not to negate the fact that cheaters should never prosper). It was IronChef in this thread that said "most people here have SA still enabled when it comes to the viewpoint that they don't agree with". He might have been speaking of that type of thread. When I first ran into this game I thought it had a good chance to crash and burn. Too many ways for dumb people to screw it up. I am glad to see that hasn't been the case and the game seems to be alive and well. I did run into a forum message that implied that if you mentioned another caching site the message would be deleted. This I think would be an unhealthy situation but hopefully it isn't the case. And now I see that "becnhmarks" have been added to my seek page. Back in the "old days" these were a royal pain to dig up info on. Maybe I'll try a few of those today. Happy hunting.

I was in the neighborhood of "The GPS Store" so got to compare a lot of units. I was settling on these two units also and went for the Sport Trac Pro. The screen was crisper, (blacker blacks, whiter whites) and seemed more readable. This converted me from the Etrex (yellow and Legend). I now believe what all the magellanites have been saying, Locks on the birds faster and keeps them. From just a week of use I can't believe how clean and accurate the basemap is.

That is what I needed. While pulling my hair out (needed this quick) I figured out the trick with www.mapsonus.com Do a search. Then go to "tools" and select "General Options" In there "Show Long/Lat" is a check box. You can then go out and click one more time on the search and you get digital degrees. Your site has some advantages. Thanks.
