  1. http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/ds_mark.prl?PidBox=MU0416 ...has a section for "superseded survey control" between the "current survey control" and the "station description." Not sure that's much help, though.
  2. Girl Scouts used to have a "Hi-Tech Hide & Seek" Interest Project Award for older girls, but that has been mothballed in advance of new program materials. There was an option to hide a cache and maintain it, but only for four months. The other option was to release a travel bug and track it for at least four months. When the troops that I work with earned that recognition, we elected the travel bug option because the girls decided that, in all honesty, they were not interested in cache maintenance. Our travel bug (Sew Glam One, TBN2CK) was released in 2007 in a cache that was named "Please, Sir, Can I have S'more?" (since archived due to fire) that we tracked for several years before it was unfortunate enough to be in a cache in Ireland that was muggled in 2010. The new Brownie Girl Scout "Letterboxer" and Junior Girl Scout "Cacher" proficiency badge are each part of the new program materials, and I don't know that the booklets are even in publication yet - all online sources say "coming soon."
  3. Not sure in what county you are interested, but you might consider contacting the cache owner for GCA08D to see what was done for their "Gone But Not Forgotten" cache. lynn
  4. How about this one: http://mapper.landrecords.info/ but, boy howdy, it requires some playing! Or this one - someone may have provided this one earlier, and it also requires twiddling: http://sdms.ak.blm.gov/isdms/imf.jsp?site=sdms And some miscellaneous AK land records stuff: http://www.landrecords.info/ Link to both maps: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150306030407225.350731.505882224&l=3286b71e6f&type=1
  5. Found a Cadastral marker database / tool: http://www.esg.montana.edu/gl/trs-data.html You put in Township, Range, and Section values, and it will return interesting information if the item is in the database. Oh, fudge, it only works for AR , AZ, CA, CO, ID, KS, MT, ND, NE, NM, NV, OK, OR, SD, UT, WA and WY; not AK. Sorry...
  6. Try http://benchmarks.scaredycatfilms.com/AK.html and see if that helps. Don't know whose tool it is, found it by accident, love it, love it, love it!
  7. It appears that "Sew Glam One" is also deceased. Dear TBN2CK was created by Older Girl Troop 513 as the last requirement for their "Sew Glam" and "High Tech Hide & Seek" Interest Project Awards back in January 2007. Each girl signed a small piece of fabric, we put the scraps on a key ring, and attached the dog tag. It was dropped in a cache in Griffith Park, California appropriately named "Can I Have S'More?" and started journeying shortly thereafter. We'd check on the travels of our little bug about once a month. Even though the members of the troop are not static, with girls moving in and moving on, everyone was amazed at the places dear TBN2CK had been. Alas, right around January 2011, the cache in which Sew Glam One was residing was apparently muggled and quite a few travel bugs went missing. The girls are very philosophical about the whole thing - circle of life and all that, and amazed at the longevity, and impressed by the travels; but there's a certain amount of sadness that Something That Was is no longer. But, we have yet another collection of Older Girls, ready to be introduced to geocaching and travel bugs, so we'll start another traveler sometime soon.
  8. I agree that this would be a appropriate category proposal. 1. There are enough markers throughout the state that would make the category viable. About 1100 documented markers have been placed by the (California) Office of Historic Preservation and the Native Sons of the Golden West; and an large number of unnumbered and undocumented markers have been placed by the NSGW. The NSGW is actively collecting information on these markers. 2. Not all of the markers are on well-travelled roads and highways, making the search for little-known markers challenging. 3. Some organizations and individuals are trying to make the historical marker program more visible, and attaching the category to the Waymarking website would further that goal. --> Girl Scouts Joshua Tree Council, headquarted in Bakersfield, CA, had a patch program designed around the California Historical Markers. --> There's a book "California Why Stop? : A Guide to California Roadside Historical Markers", isbn 088415923X -->and a website http://www.nsgw.org/monuments.htm Lynn Speer
