  1. I tried that, and clearing the browser's cache, but it had no effect.
  2. P.S.: I'm also not seeing the two maps on cache pages, just empty boxes where the maps should be. And, as I mentioned in another thread, I can't enter corrected coordinates for puzzle caches anymore. I don't know exactly when these bugs first started: I've been out of town for a few weeks, using a different computer.
  3. Until recently I could click on either the pencil icon or on the coordinates themselves; now neither one works. The only thing that happens when I click is that the URL in my browser's address line gets a '#' added to the end of it. The box for entering new coords doesn't show up. That's how it used to be. Now the corrected coords (on caches that I entered new coords for before this change) are shown without italics.
  4. Logs are not showing on cache pages; there's nothing between the grey box that tells how many logged visits there are and the "Current time:" line. I can still see the logs if I click on "View Logbook", but only 10 at a time instead of all on one page. This happens in both Safari 4.1.3 and Firefox 3.6.28 on an iMac running Mac OS X version 10.4.11.
  5. I just tried to change the coordinates of a puzzle cache, from the listed to the actual coords, by clicking on the listed coords on the cache page, and nothing happens. Also, for caches that I've already updated the coordinates on, the updated coordinates are shown unitalicized, so there's no way to tell whether they're the listed or actual coords. This happens in both Safari 4.1.3 and Firefox 3.6.28 on an iMac running Mac OS X version 10.4.11.
  6. Can we please hear from some of the actual geocachers who work for Groundspeak? Are they as frustrated as many of us are about the changes? Do they have any influence over the programmers, or over whoever decides what the programmers should do? Most of this thread has been focused on the loss of the plain text email feature. So far we haven't heard anything that gives us hope that it will come back. We haven't even heard an explanation of why it was taken away. All we've heard from Groundspeak is that they appreciate our feedback but they have no plans to fix the problems that HTML email causes. I find that patronizing, and I suspect I'm not alone. So don't be surprised if a few insults get sent in the other direction. (I haven't actually seen anyone insult the lackeys, but maybe that's because those posts have been deleted.)
  7. Why don't you plan to bring back plain text emails? Many people have requested it in the previous Release Notes thread, explaining what problems the switch to HTML email is causing. So far, I haven't seen any explanation of what the advantages are that prompted the design team to make this change. Can you provide one?
  8. Yes, please! For those of us with imperfect eyesight, contrast is good. Black text on a white background is best. I'm often frustrated trying to read long cache pages with their grey on white text; I usually end up copying and pasting it into a text editor so I can make it black.
  9. Thanks. I didn't realize that that link was under the owner's control.
  10. Today I picked up a Geico Travel Tag. It's short URL is: http://coord.info/TB472WH But when I click on the ID number in the upper right part of the page, the URL is displayed as: http://coord.info/TB472WH38KCW Where did the "38KCW" come from? This happens in both Safari 4.1.3 and Firefox 3.6.28 on an iMac running Mac OS X 10.4.11. Other trackable pages that I've checked, including some for other Geico Travel Tags, work fine in both browsers.
  11. I hope that happens. Until then, here's a suggestion: Instead of looking through many pages of logs, click on the View Map link on the trackable's page. That displays a map of where the trackable has been, followed by all of the logs on one page. You can use your browser's search feature to see if your name is already listed among those logs.
  12. Thanks. I'd never noticed the Souvenirs link on that page; I always got to them via the tab on my public profile page.
  13. Thanks. I've hidden some, and have bookmarked that page for future use. But is there a way to get to it from my Profile page? If I click on the Souvenirs tab, I just see my public Souvenirs, with no indication that I can hide them or that there are others that I could show. How would anyone who didn't see this forum thread know about this feature?
  14. I'm in the process of changing my email address. I've changed the address at geocaching.com, and emails about caches and trackables on my watchlist are going to the new address now. However, emails about forum topics that I'm watching are still going to my old address. I haven't found a way to change my address here on the forums. Can someone please tell me how to do that?
  15. The new instance of this problem is being discussed in another thread: Cache logs not loading P.S.: The A-Team beat me to that observation by 1 minute.
  16. This is being discussed in another thread: Cache logs not loading
  17. A problem which I reported and which was fixed on June 19 (visit link) is back: When I open a cache page, only the most recent 25 logs are shown initially. If I scroll down to the last log, then more logs should be loaded. But today that doesn't happen: I get the spinning icon next to "Loading Cache Logs...", but no more logs ever get loaded. Also, if I click on "View Logbook" (just above the most recent log on the cache page), the "Geocache Logbook" page says "No Logs Found", instead of showing the most recent logs. These problems occur in Safari version 4.1.3 and in Firefox version 3.6.28, both on an iMac with OS X 10.4.11.
  18. Could you explain why some caches get retracted instead of just archived? I assume that there must be some benefit to someone, but I don't know what it is. All I see is the harm that's done to people who've found the cache, and whose stats get messed up by the retraction. This has happened to two caches that I've found. In both cases they were too close to existing caches, but that information wasn't known to the reviewers who approved them. In one, The bus don't stop here, the CO had made a mistake in entering the coordinates. In the other, Present to Past, the cache was close to the final stage of a multicache, but that was several years ago before additional waypoints were stored in Groundspeak's database, so the reviewer had no way to know about the problem. Because of these, Project Geocaching thinks I've found 2 fewer caches than I actually have, and its list of my milestones is mostly wrong.
  19. When I open a cache page, only the most recent 25 logs are shown initially. If I scroll down to the last log, then more logs should be loaded. But today that doesn't happen: I get the spinning icon next to "Loading Cache Logs...", but no more logs ever get loaded. (At least, not within the 10 minutes or so that I've waited.) This was working fine a couple of days ago. Another problem, which might be related: If I click on "View Logbook" (just above the most recent log on the cache page), the "Geocache Logbook" page says "No Logs Found", instead of showing the most recent logs. These problems occur in Safari version 4.1.3 and in Firefox version 3.6.28, both on an iMac with OS X 10.4.11.
  20. How does that work? I didn't think the reviewers saw the cache listing until you make it active. Does posting a reviewer note change that?
  21. If I were in that situation, I'd write to the current owner and ask what their preference is. I'd suggest these possibilities: (1) The cache page could say that it was copied with permission from <owner's name>. (2) The cache page could say that it was copied with permission from someone else, whose name isn't being mentioned to avoid giving away how their cache is hidden. Either way, it would be clear that I wasn't taking credit for the idea. And if the owner asked me not to copy it or suggested something else to say in the description, I'd respect their wishes.
  22. Exactly. It's totally dishonest to take the credit for something you didn't come up with yourself. In actuality, there is almost nothing that is 'original'. Someone else has thought of it somewhere else. In almost all cases. Sometimes, my weird mind works in strange ways. But, with two million caches out there, don't think that no one else has come up with the same idea. Rather presumptive of you? I won't copy a cache idea that's anywhere near. As if there are not another 23 or 67 caches with the same concept out there. My point was that you should not set out another cache with the same idea anywhere nearby. As noted somewhere above, someone ran across a cache similar to his, but it was borrowed from a different cache. Not much original out there. So, I wander the world looking for interesting puzzles/concepts. Ah! There's one in Quebec, or Nothern Queensland, or Quintana Roo. Probably another 23 or 67 that use the same idea. I'm not free to borrow the oncept? Work it out my own way. Ah. 44 wrong guesses on my 5 difficulty puzzle. I should check the world to see if anyone else has a similar puzzle? I don't think so. Something oddly presumptive in your statement. I agree that most puzzles borrow some ideas from previous ones. But what I'm complaining about is blatant copying: If you compare eRDeeWee's cache to mine, you can see that it's not an independent invention that happens to be similar. Nor is it a similar puzzle inspired by mine. It's a copy: The puzzle description is almost identical to mine, just translated into Dutch. The pictures are slightly edited versions of mine; he just changed the tablecloth color in one and translated the text in the other to Dutch. So no, I don't think I'm being presumptuous: He copied my puzzle and his refusal to admit that is dishonest.
