Night Trailmix! this is the first I have heard of this. Please tell me more....
  2. Check out this event we did here locally: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...d2-fc241ee15489 We staggered when teams left, that way there was less chance of speeding.
  3. The Blueridge Parkway is a very small strip that is owned by the National Parks (Less than 500 feet in areas). You will find a good number of caches just outside the park boundres. I highly recomend caches by NC Ron and Dianne.
  4. I have found that cache and it's a hard one to find. There is a whole lot of GPS bounce in that area and I would say that the sign would be the best hint at finding it. Glad to see that Saunders Springs is thinking this well of geocaching. Good job Bassetslave.
  5. YES, This currently is the only way to log event caches. In my area we have tried to limit event caches to something around 5 or less and trust me on a lot of these event caches we earned them.
  6. And GW1 was in Louisville. Maybe we can get the 5-year anniversary geowoodstock to come back to Kentucky.
  7. I will put a M & M container up against a 35mm film can anyday.
  8. Just for both of your info, that unit is capable of storing up to 1000 waypoints if you down load the software updates from the Garmin update site. This may be a little bit too advanced for you to do as a begainer but after a few months after you get used to the unit you may want to give the update a try .
  9. You could try an old smoke detector. They flash every once in awile and the batteries can last more than a year. You would have to some how pertect it from water.
  10. But when you click on it you get nothing I miss them allready
  11. Here's the oldest cache in Kentucky GC39E Tom Sawyer. It is still active.
  12. If you ever get up to the Elizabethtown area, you might want to try this one: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...99-0ebafd2a3a7d The bogus cords are in my front yard so I can point folks in the right direction and the actual cords are on a piece of land I own.
  13. How is the hotel arrangement with Waxahachie going? I plan on nailing down my hotel and transportation arrangements sometime just after the holidays and need to know if there are any deals.
  14. I agree but I do log my own Event Caches.
  15. There is currently a restructuring of geocaching organizations in the state of Indiana and I felt that this is a good time to review the current organizations and structure of the organizations here in Kentucky. I for one like what has been created here in our state. Geocky started things off with a good organization that was at first centered on Lexington and then later expanded to the rest of the state. The foundation they started stressed corporations with parks departments as well as establishing guidelines with several organizations to include: Kentucky State Parks, Lexington parks, Daniel Boone National Park and Otter Creek park. These simple but effective guidelines have kept and controlled the growth of geocaching in the state to prevent and or head off problems that have plagued other bordering states. Because of the length and sheer distance involved, smaller geocaching groups have started to spring up and thrive within the state. When I first proposed my group (Heartland Geocachers) in and around Elizabethtown, I did not want to undermine what other fine groups have done to include Geocky and InKy, so I proposed a sub group under Geocky. I feel that this is the best approach for the state. Geocky has no control of or make no decisions in my group but I use Geocky as the main statewide organization for statewide information. I proposed the subgroups in the Geocky forums so all-statewide geocaching groups could have ONE source for information without having to have an account with every forum in every group in the state. I feel that this is the best approach for this state and I invite all groups within the state to use the Geocky forums for statewide discussions. I also invite an encourage comments and discussions on this subject.
  16. If that cache is near an Interstate and you know it will get more visits than you might leave it for awile, but I pull mine when they get below 10 or so. You can use up the roll on the cache area then check the CD option when you send it off. So far I have developed and posted 3 cameras in two of my caches. I post a note in red on the cache page as to what date they were posted.
  17. Which event do you plan to go to? I am having mine in Elizabethtown on the 22 Oct and I am going to the one that KTAG is having in Western Kentucky the next day. It would be great to see you at any of these. The event I am having will have 5 event caches and you will meet a great bunch of folks. As for the one in Western Kentucky. I do not know many folks down in that area, so you will not be alone in being a stranger. Trust me, You will have a great time at what ever event you go to. As far as Travel Bug in my area, you will find that most people around here have had there share of them and we will proably be glad to have someone take a few off our hands.
  18. No, not yet, but is in development. Check here for updates. Thanks for the info. I will keep an eye out.
  19. My brother has had some problems with his Garmin I-Que doing the same thing. He sent it to the company and it turned out that static electricity had zapped it. Garmin installed something to prevent it from happening again.
  20. Is there a Geowoodstock 4 website yet other that on the Texas Geocaching site?
  21. Yes, I have had problems too. I do not know much about HTML but I have used an easy to follow guide (http://www.annabella.net/html.html) on the internet to do most of the work (and everthing worked great). Here recently I have had problems, spaces I place go away on some pages but not others and on my most recent cache GCQTV4 I have this (???A???S) show up at the bottom of the page. Everytime I delete it, it regenerates when the page is refreshed .
  22. I have two $19 poles from Target. They have poles for Jr's and up to a $39 one's with shocks. I would recommend you get one of the cheaper ones first, then if you want a better one later you can pass that one down to family or friends.
  23. Unfortunatley, some hiders use intentionally BAD coords. Rounding the 3rd digit to 0, or dropping it all together, etc. Some hiders are known for their Always BAD coords. Some of those hiders keep hiding and hiding and hiding. My state will soon have 1000 of these "gems" hidden, and probably ALL of them are NOT at the listed coords. "sneaky" they may call it, or whatever - but in the end- its just poor/sloppy use of the technology. Sometimes it is bad equipment. We have a cacher in our area that uses and old GPS without the last digit. The guy does the best he can to get the cords right, but has been as close as 2 feet or as far off as 150 feet. He places good caches and thank goodness he leaves good clue. So far with the clues alone I have been lucky enough to find all of his. I almost feel like giving the guy my old Garmin e-Trex. As for Rules, I'm with Outback, "No Rules, Just Right"
  24. I have noticed this as well. I really want to embrace this site but feel that some are getting a first shot in the back door. I have a particular group of geocaches that do not work that well as caches and I need a category of Civil War Markers to place them. I understand that the locationless must be integrated first, but I hope that new categories will open soon.
  25. I noticed that they just added the Category "Memorials", that would be a good place to put this one under as a sub-category.
