  1. Amazing - I guess you CAN teach an old dog new tricks. Thank you all for your help.
  2. Excuse my ignorance, but how does one do that? I've only been doing this for eight or nine years...
  3. I use Packet Queries to load GSAK, but although I have a column for favorite points, they do not show up in my "Not Found" database, but do show up in my "Found" database. Any reason for this that I am missing?
  4. As I read this thread I kept thinking about all the 'naked caching' threads. Just sayin.
  5. In the first year we managed 500 caches total. The next 500 took seven more years. Obviously we don't do any power trails! Our best day was 25 caches, and it involved a ten mile hike in the hills. It would have been 26 except for the durned rattlesnake at ground zero for one of the caches.
  6. I've been known to have a glass or three.... When I signed up for a camping forum years ago I needed a screen name. The site owner was named Dean, and used Dno (like Dean Martin's nickname shortened) and I just decided on Yno, because it sounds better than drunk or lush. And no one cane pronounce oenophile.
  7. Yno, pronounced like wino, which sounds better than lush, but not as sophisticated as oenophile, which hardly anyone can pronounce. I adopted this screen name years ago when I signed up fo a different forum and had to think of a name. The site's owner, Dean, used Dno, like 'Dino Martin', so I thought of Yno, because I like wine.
  8. I gotta be more sociable. I have never heard it spoken.
  9. I am a little more careful about the caches I go after now than I was at first. But I figure that if someone hides a cache at a location that is crowded with people day and night, it really isn't my fault if it gets muggled. I try to be stealthy, and I won't wave it around yelling "Eureka!", but I have seen a lot of caches that could have been hidden much better just a few feet away.
  10. Neither one is wearing gloves, which to me seems one of the most important parts of the outfit. The bees probably would avoid stinky feet. Mine could probably kill the bees.
  11. Miyasis Dragon GC9EC2 I drove by this one a few times, and finally had to stop to get it. Great name, great location.
  12. Does anyone besides me think this is a conspiracy to cover up the fact that Signal was caught playing with illegal fireworks in the server room? I knew something major had happened. When I tried to pull up GC.com yesterday, IE8 crashed twice, and Firefox couldn't do much better. But I had faith in the team there. Thanks for all your hard work on this, and on all the issues in running this site.
  13. I found two caches near an airport this weekend, and I would not have found one of them without the arrow. I don't usually use or need it, but on the first cache, the map page took a while to settle down, and on the second, it didn't settle at all. Very strange. I switched to the compass, and it led me directly to the cache, which was actually close to where the map first led me, but far from where it took me after that. So I use whatever tool is most useful.
  14. Just out of curiosity, does Garmin ever update their manuals? With all the major changes in the upgrades since I bought my Oregon, the manual is pretty worthless. It would be nice to be able to download a manual with current features listed.
  15. I just hit the add to queue button, and the file was in my mailbox within two minutes.
  16. I vote Walt for Forum Wiseman - best advice I have read in a long time! They fixed my problems at lunch yesterday..... I have had only minor issues with PQ's over the last month or so, nothing big enough to get my panties in a bunch. My regularly scheduled PQ's were not hitting my mailbox until mid afternoon, but in the last week they have been waiting for me when I get up, which with my job is pretty dadgum early! I say kudos to Groundspeak. $30 for all we get is a hell of a bargain.
  17. Shouldn't you whack them on the shin and yell "Respect my authoritay!"?
  18. I don't even bother to look at the junk in most caches. Usually, I have to paw my way through it to get to the log, and this is a pain when you are trying to hurry so you don't get caught by the pack of muggles approaching down the trail. I am in it for the thrill of finding a well hidden or camouflaged cache, and sometimes for being led to a great area. I have never even considered carrying swag, as I know I will not find anything I really want to keep. The only thing that I will sometimes take is a travel bug, and I don't seem to run across many of these in the plethora of micros I seem to find.
  19. I am a bit confused. The cache page clearly states: "Access to the cache may only be made along the clearly marked public footpath which runs from minor road to the south of the Ards. The cache is about 200 metres along that footpath. There is no access from the north of the Ards which is all farmland. Please respect the surrounding farmland and if you are unsure, check the location on a map. ." If people don't read the cache description, they probably won't see the child waypoints or parking instructions either. Sometimes you do just have to use common sense in approaching a cache.
  20. I have 3 PQ's that run once a week that give me all the caches (of the types I hunt) in my "local" area. That way I can usually look for some whenever the mood strikes. I also have about a dozen that I run when I take trips to certain favorite areas away from home. I may only use these once or twice a year. If I go someplace new, I will write a PQ for that area before I leave.

    Fine tuning a PQ

You da man! I just tested it, and that is the solution. This will make things much easier. By the way, thanks for the write up on how to get rid of archived caches in GSAK. I used to use a slightly more difficult method of exporting the lists to Excel and comparing the lists. Your method is easier, and now I think will be even quicker!

    Fine tuning a PQ

I don't have the updated in the last 7 days box checked, which is the only one like that I see. The "from origin" is set to "my home coordinates" and the "within radius of" was left at the default of 100 miles. I get the full 400 in the results.

    Fine tuning a PQ

I have a weekly PQ that is set up to give me 400 caches centered on my house. I have selected only traditionals, any container, that I haven't found and is active. Seems straight forward, but when I throw it into GSAK and sort by GPX date, some very close caches don't show up. I check these caches out, and they are all still available. The only reason I can guess that would keep them from showing up is they may not have been found in a while. Does the PQ look at the last found date, and pull a more distant cache that was just found in favor of a closer cache that might just be more difficult to find?
  24. You have been "Rick Rolled"! http://www.yougotrickrolled.com/
  25. Maybe it refers to NeoCult post about the ads.... http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=217813
