  1. "Actually, I think E-Trex is referring to the bottom 10% of people in any group who tend to mess things up for the rest." Dave, I guess you missed my feeble attempt at sarcasm/humor. No doubt about the existence of this 10% group, they ruin it for alot of good people in many things. While I am still a noobie to this wonderful sport, I have been involved in many outdoor activities all my life. I am very familiar with the land closure wackos and what they have been able to accomplish. The 10% group just make it easier for the wackos to get what they want, the closure of as much of the outdoors as possible. If this 10% group of abusers were to disappear from the earth tomorrow, do you think the wackos would back off of their close the lands agenda? I don't. The geocachers are just the newest group to come along and want to use "their" land. The wackos have done it to the ranchers, miners, off roaders and other groups. I hope the geocachers aren't next. Sam
  2. "And all of these have been because of irresponsable people doing stupid things." Good of you to point out the real problem. You are obviously referring to the wackos who put up all the "no" signs. Sam
  3. You can still get the decons for $1.79 at www.armysurpluswarehouse.com look under ammo cans, on the sixth page. Sam
  4. I emailed the cacher and they fixed it no problem. I'm still learning the ropes here. Great bunch of people in this game! Sam
  5. Is there a way to edit someone's post when they log one of your caches? On one of my caches, there is a hint that I would like to encrypt or remove from the post. Thanks Sam
  6. Looks like I spoke too soon! I'm still suffering from ANS (anxious newbie syndrome) Bear with me, I'm trying to heal as fast as I can Sam
  7. Yes, I got the receipt email right away, and there is nothing showing as archived. Who do you email to get a idea on whats going on with the cache? (in edit, it just showed up as approved) Thanks, Sam
  8. Need some info. When you submit a cache for approval and they decide to not approve it for whatever reason, where does it go from there? Do they send you a message with the reason and give you a chance to modify it or do they just not approve it, leave it at that and not contact you. The first three I did were approved fairly quick, I submitted another the better part of two days ago which hasn't been approved yet and I haven't received an email saying there is a problem with it. Inquiring minds want to know! Sam
  9. I think there was a line real close to that in the original "MASH" movie from the 1970's when Hawkeye took Radar O'Reilly into a bar. ?????????????????? Sam
  10. Dawg, here is what I found a few weeks ago. I found at www.tigergps.com they had the Pro for $228 and the Map for $170. They are on the east coast and I wanted to deal closer to home. The folks at www.gpscity.com have a price match policy if you can find it cheaper than their price. They are in Vegas and matched the price I found at Tigergps. I called them and they matched it with no fuss at all(got the Pro) and were great to do business with. Sam P.S. Currently doing a resto on a 56' oval window bug I bought from the original owner.
  11. As a card carrying newbie, I appreciate a post like Brian's. I don't see it as more rules to live by, just a guide to help keep the mistakes I will/have made to a minimum. Most of what he said seems like common sense to me(I'm a smart feller ) but I often read things here(like Brian's do' and dont's) and see things I didn't think of. Sam
  12. Man, that is the best of both worlds! I bought my first Cummins in 1991. Current one is a 2001.5 QC HO sixspeed, stock of course with no mods that would put my warranty in jeopardy Currently trying to talk the better half into a TDI bug! Sam
  13. Brian, I thought of that when I got into the cupboard. That's why I picked the new one that was sitting on top of the others. Sure hope those cans get here soon, already found my next spot for another cache. Sam
  14. Knucklehead, I prefer to live on the edge! I couldn't take waiting any longer for the brown truck to bring my ammo cans from Cheaperthandirt. The better half went shopping today with junior so I swiped some of her tupperware and placed my first catch today. I figured I would change out the cache container when I got an ammo cans, but after I got done with the spray paint camo job on it, I don't believe she will want it back! Sam
  15. At Brain's suggestion, I got some coming from www.cheaperthandirt.com Pretty good price, the reg size are $3.99 ea and also have a six pack of the smaller one's for $19.97. To heck with Tupperware! Sam
  16. Northern, I just bought a Sprortrak Pro from GPS City, good folks to deal with. This is on their accessory page http://www.gpscity.com/accessories/antennas/vortech.html I don't have one so I can't comment on how well it works. Sam
  17. Looks like tupperware is the way to go. Besides, my wife has so much of that stuff in the cupboards that she'll never miss a few containers.
  18. Newbie here with a question about containers. I read the Faq pages and didn't find the answer. At work I have access to scrap pvc/abs pipe and fittings. It would be easy to make a weather tight cache container with a short section of pipe, with screw on caps. Even after a camo paint job, I am concerned with it looking an awful lot like a pipe bomb, which can't be good! Is this type of container a good idea or not? Thanks Sam
  19. I probably have enough parts stashed to build two complete bugs. Current rolling stock is a 1956 oval window that I'm restoring. Sam
  20. Try here http://www.gpscity.com/accessories/cables/usbadapter.html
  21. Mink, on this page, half way down, they have a set of xp drivers. I haven't tried it out yet. Sam
  22. This stuff looks like fun! I read about geocaching on another board I read on. My parents were rockhounds when I was growing up and I spent my younger years roaming the desert and the western states. As kids, we didn't really care about looking for rocks so we did alot of exploring and mini treasure hunts. In my adult years, did alot of offroading and spent way too much time getting lost! Wish I would have known about GPS back then. In looking at the cache locations here in So Calif, it ought to be fun as they are all over the place. The brown truck is bringing me a Sportrak Pro in the next few days so I'm ready to get started. I hope you are ready for some silly questions as I'm sure I will have plenty. I do promise to read the manual from front to back, more than once! Sam
