  1. Not quite. That's a vastly superior lock-n-lock-n-lock container. Very funny
  2. Palm based Wherigo would be nice.
  3. Geez, all the workers did was move it to another light pole and leave a note as to what they did? They could have at least had the common decency to submit the new coordinates for approval. I mean, it might be too close to another LPC. Did they think about this ahead of time? Not likely I say.
  4. Here is the latest I just got from them. I was told at least a month ago that the magazine would be in the mail next week. Hmmmm? From: "Elisika Arango" <elisika@geocachermagazine.com> Add to Address Book Add Mobile Alert To: "Elisika Arango" <elisika@geocachermagazine.com> Subject: Magazine Update Date: Sat, 12 Apr 2008 07:27:32 -0700 Hello Fellow Cachers! The weather is beautiful here finally and I hope to be able to log a few finds this weekend. Before I dust off my GPS I wanted to update all of you on your subscriptions. First off thank you for your enthusiasm, well wishes and support. We have been so overwhelmed by everyone’s excitement and willingness to help. It has been incredibly valuable because we had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. Talk about a learning curve! I suppose in a year or so we will look back and laugh (I hope)! Well, the big question most of you probably have is what happened to the Jan/Feb Premiere issue. Our question of course is what happened to January and February. Based on how long this has taken we have decided to make the Premiere issue Mar/Apr instead. I am excited to say it will be in the mail soon and I will send all of you an email when it goes to the post office so you can start checking your mailboxes. You will still be receiving the Geowoodstock program as well. Because it has taken us sooo long and we are so appreciative of everyone’s patience we have decided to give everyone who subscribed before April 1st a free issue. Rather than 6 issues you will all be receiving 7 issues. Thank you Thank you Thank you. We also want to let you know our website is in the process of being completely redesigned. We are very excited to have it go live and can’t wait for all of you to see it. There will be lots of opportunities for all of you to share your thoughts, pics and stories. Please check it in the few weeks and let us know how you like it. We have met with the wonderful GeoWoodstock Committee and have lots of exciting plans in the works with them. Hopefully we will have the opportunity to meet many of you there. Please be sure to stop by and say hi if you are able to attend. Thanks again! Cache On! 5. I've logged an archived cache. It was still there. Good call on the commercial guidlines. But just like mom and dad used to say, "because I said so".
  6. Your math makes an assumption that the cachers walk from one cache to another. You forgot running and cars/bikes/motorcycles. Good point webscouter. Didn't see anything about walking only. But if they did, here are the numbers I got. Would someone else check my math? The guidlines say .10 miles apart. That is 528 feet. So, there could be 10 caches per mile in a straight line not just 3? Not sure what you meant by that. At a quick pace of 3 miles per hour, that would be 30 caches per hour. For a total of 4.3 hours. Add in 7 minutes per cache and you get 19.4 hours to complete. Even at 2 miles per hour you come up with 23.7 hours. Now all this assumes you can find a straight trail 13 miles long that has a cache placed every .10 miles and assuming no DNFs. Yes is does seem like an unlikely feat on foot, but I'm sure more than walking was involved. And to add to the other comments people had about remarkable human feats, I visited the top of Pike's Peak once in Colorado. It is over 14,000 feet in elevation. I stepped off the tram and found it amazingly difficult to breath. After going into the shop up there, I met a couple that looked like they had just been working out. I asked if they had just walked up the mountain, and the told me they had run up. YES RUN UP. They are part of a group called the "14ers". This group actually make a habit of doing this. There are about 50 of these peaks,if I'm not mistaken, and they had just finished the list a few weeks prior. One of the runners was a man probably in his late 60's early 70's. Check out the link www.14ers.com .
  7. With a premium account, you can set up email alerts when a new one pops up. I think. I thought that might be how one does it. What about non-premium members? Yes that's how it's done. I have a premium account, but I think you can still get notifications on caches NOT listed as Premium. It's going to narrow down drastically the numbers you will be eligible to get though. If you've done this off and on for four years, take the leap and get the Premium membership. You can start with the month by month and see what you think.
  8. I'm not much of a power cacher myself, but that might partly be becasue of a GPS without the ability to download and no PDA. Everything printed and entered by hand. That has just changed with the purchase of a Garmin 60 CSx. My best number for one day is 17. All of these caches were FTFs believe it or not. Myself and fellow cacher dyerx4 went out to the Lucern Valley and Barstow area in California to hunt down 24 new puzzle caches placed by Mr & Mrs Wisearse. The puzzles were all solved the same way, but that was enough to slow down the competition. We traveled over three hundred miles in about 7 hours and a tank of gas. No DNFs, we just ran out of time.
  9. Seriously ? No restaurants ? I gotta go back and read those guidelines more carefully. How do all those pizza get togethers get posted ? As the informal president of the Corona Area Cachers Association, I've held two pizza events myself. It's a good thing the reviewers ignore that rule, or we would never be able to socialize. Ooooops. New to the forum thing. This posting was in supposed to be in response to another persons posting. I guess I didn't do it right.
  10. I was just thinking about something that geocaching.com/Groundspeak might think about doing. I received an email from the company that makes my personal checks and thought how great it would be to offer checks with a geocaching theme. I have been getting checks from "Checks Unlimited.com" for many years because I didn't like the generic ones from the bank. They could use any company and have check pads with 4 or 5 different background images printed. I'm thinking these would be a hit and I was curious? Would you buy them? Let Groundspeak know by responding to this post.
  11. There is a real good chance it is a benchmark from a private company like other people suggested. That is what I would guess, but it also looks like the abbreviation of a military unit during the civil war. I've seen these types of abbreviations during my genealogy research. Any chance it's that old ?
