  1. One of the local caches is hidden on property owned by the Lake County Water Authority and one of their folks ran across it. Of course they thought bad thoughts! Good article! www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/lake Sleddog - Team WeedWhacker - -We're not accurate, but we cover a lot of ground!
  2. Do you veterans use rechargables? If you do, which ones seem to last the longest?
  3. BloomCru, Are you having to edit each line to convert from CG#s to an alpha? I've read through the online manual, so lets not start that thread up again, but I don't see an "easy" way to convert a number of waypoint names. I downloaded several this past weekend and went line by line to convert. Regardless, it sure beats entering in the coordinates on the GPS!
  4. Dogdoins, When I read your, "You newbies and your questions should all burn in hell!!" then look at the picture under your screen name (what do you call those pictures anyway - Is there a FM I can read?) the "testostore" factor peters out! That is Frightening!!!
  5. Yep, we're new to the sport due to a nice gift from Santa, too. Took the GPS to work on the 26th, dead day in the office, so I surfed Geocaching.com and low-and-behold I discover a cache in a small park in a residential sudivision about 5 miles from me! Took the GPS, manual, cache description sheet, sat in the bank parking lot and entered the coordinates, hit "Go to" and off I go. Found the location and stood at the spot where the cache should be hidden, but with it being in a senior citizens residential area, I didn't want to stir up the residents, so I didn't count it as a find. But the clue is dead on. Went out Friday with wife, FIND; went out solo on Saturday morning on a 2-part cache, FIND; and took my wife out late Sunday afternoon, FIND! Sunday the sun set while we were out and thank goodness for the navigation feature or we may have spent the night trying to find the Jeep. Whomever founded geocaching - THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! Sleddog - Team WeedWhacker "We're not accurate, but we cover a lot of ground"
  6. Ann, I'm glad you asked this question and I'm thankful for all the "get close and start hunting" responses from the veteran cachers. My wife bought me (HER) a GPS for Christmas and I've never used one before. With this amazing little instrument spouting all this accurate, detailed information, I thought I would have to give up my highly honed "bird dogging" skills I use in orienteering! Now rather than birddogging from a half mile out, this past weekend I found myself doing it only a quarter of a mile out! Then I stopped, looked at the information on the GPS and decided to put some faith in it. Walked me in to about 6 feet! Do you know how many "medium sized oaks, next to a palm tree, surrounded by pines" there are in the Ocala National Forest (Central Florida)? A LOT! Happy hunting!
