  1. I will be in El Paso for a business trip the 25th to the 28th and was wondering if there was any caches i should do while there. I will be staying at the mariot. I will not have a car so public transportation will be my only way around. Is there a bus page I can use tha has the routs. any help will be apreciated.
  2. And to this list I would like to Navdog who has some of the best placed and thought out caches I have seen and Kiwimonster who's pyramid puzzel caches have brought a few of close to insanity.
  3. I am a female cacher who usely caches alone. I have never had any problem. People have asked about getting atacked but I never worry about it. If there are attack casses in the paper or on the news I might be more reluctent to go out but you cant live your life feeling like a victim. To me its like terrorist atacks sure it could happen but if you live your life looking for the bad you miss out on some great times. I do go prepared I carry a cell phone and leave a copy of where I am going on my computer. Also since I ususaly have my GPS in my hand. People might think its a defence item or a cell phone. Somthing about walking around a park with a small black object in your hand usually out in front of you might make a would be attacker think twice. Please do not give up or curtail a hobby that you love just becouse you might get hurt. If that was case we would all be sitting at home watching life go by outside our windows. You could get hit by a bus or a car on the way to the corner store. I guess what I am trying to say is if you leave the house thinking like a victim you will lose alot of the pleasure of Geocaching. Sure bad things happen but life goes on and personally I would rather get what I can out of today because tomorow may be to late. Suziq
  4. In our house its the oposite. I am the one has to badger the husband into going. I then give him the GPS and let him lead. He is not a follwer. I like having him along on the more adventurous caches, he is more limber and can get to the more chalenging places and I have follwed him for some great adventures but most of the time I cache alone. He plays games on the computer while I figure out cache puzzels (though he has helped ocationally) I by the swag. I print pages, its my GPS. He doesnt mind if I go off by myself but insists I bring the cell phone in case of a misstep. He does go to Event caches with me and doesnt seem to be mind being Suziq husband.

  8. I always try and log a DNF though I will admitt to not. I ususally will just add to the Do not find log and change it to a found after I have found it. some of the found it logs get quite long if it takes a couple of trys to find it. and one in particular I am still looking for after not finding it three times. Others have found it in between my not finds so I know its there and one of these days I will get it. To me its a record of my journeys and a hopefully happy ending.
  9. its now 411 to 406 and geocaching is in the lead.
  10. If you get off at beaverton town central it is almost a straight shot to the city park. Just head south west. Its a about a 15 to 20 minute walk. Or you could take the bus.

  14. I was courious as to what you would concider a 1/1 so looked Up some caches in your area. I grew up around spokane and northern Idaho. I was just back a couple of months ago and did a few caches in the area. I did not have time for more. I have read some of the discriptions and just by reading the posts I probebly could get you in the general location without a GPS. I looked at what these were rated. And some of the"urban caches without imagination" around here would be rated much higher over there. Just because a cache is "urban" and can be reached by walking down an asphalt path and grabbing a cache a few feet off the path, does not make it any different. than walking down a path in the forest and grabing a cache that is a few feet off the path. Except now since its a "forest" path and not a asphalt one the cache is rated 2/1 instead of 1/1. The rateing system is to broad and what one person conciders a 4 you or I might concider a 3 or vice a versa. If you limit yourself to just 1/2 or 2/1 because you think the others are to easy you might be missing a great spot. But to each his own. I still believe all types of caches have there place. As to the orginal topic I agree. I would hate to see any cach not being placed. maybe if there is a cache that you would like to do but because of other caches close by you can not maybe you could ask the keeper if you could do yours instead. If somone is trying to maintain 100 caches he might be gratefull if you would take a few off his hands.
  15. quote:Originally posted by niskibum:Sorry if this is a bit off topic, but I have to ask why would you want to do a 1x1 in the first place? I can tell you why. When you first start out Caching and all you have is hard to find caches it is very easy to get discouraged and give up. It takes a while for a person to get used to using there GPS. It is always challenging the last 30 feet or so to find a cache and I have done a few caches where if they had been my first ones I would not be here now. There is just somthing about that first cache that makes it seem worth doing it. Also if you have kids that learning how the easier the better for the same reason. If you have ever seen a kid who who has discovered "treasure" on there own you would not have to ask. I think all levels have there place form the 11 to the 55 and if you think they are to easy just dont do them. And most of the 11 I have seen are in parks where 1/1 is all there could be.
