  1. Last weekend while hunting this cache http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=16730 I came across a different sort of cache. The cache was hidden in park which is currently being developed, active construction going on right by where I found this. Here is portion of my log "I kicked up four deer on the way into the woods but all the kicking in the world wasn't going to get the fifth one up...yuck! Bob's note had me forwarned for that one so I made a wide circle to avoid it. Happened upon another cache in the woods then. I wasn't anywhere near the coordinates yet but what cacher can go by an overturned 5 gallon pail in the woods and not turn it over? Found (I assume) one of the construction worker's breaktime reading material.... don't let the kids find this cache... make your wide bearth to the right of the deer... or they may grow up too quickly!
  2. Gnbrotz... You've probably seen these subway maps on line before http://www.mta.nyc.ny.us/nyct/maps/submap.htm At work they commonly have a few of these around for jobs in the city so I'll take a look next week. Ttepee
  3. It sure sounds like the stuff was there first. I'm in NY and seeing as how there's sproradic activity in this area I look to NJ quite a bit. He's been setting an awful lot of caches out there the past few months so I've had his activity in my scopes. Just trying to gauge the kind of caches he's placing and so far... without ever seeing one mind you...I've been impressed with the descriptions of his locales.. and I'd have to say he's just taking advantage of a freak thing he came upon in the woods and had to share... went a step or two overboard in suggesting cachers leave stuff too... but give em a break. Email him pointing to this thread or suggesting the inappropriatness of leaving things like that and I'm pretty confident you'll get a cordial reply. Let's not blow this whole thing out of proportion.
  4. R&M You really have to just jump into it till you get a feel for how your local cachers rate. Difficulty can be a very subjective argument.. the better shape your in the easier you might rate it. There is the current rating system...which I don't have a link handy for... someone will post it soon I'm sure... but I still believe it depends on the area you live in... if you travel far to get a cache I suggest emailing the owner beforehand if your heading more out in the boonies.... what's rated difficult in suburbia can be useless when you get out in the wilderness.
  5. Dx... you've definitely incorporated geoquilting... and I have to admit I was initially dubious as to whether it could be done... but your determination did it lady! Same kinda determination that it takes Jeremy to plunge headlong into the unknown. Very fitting award to our trendsetting leader! Moun10bike... he didn't get any grease on the quilt did he? ... hehehe

  9. Hi Team Shibby, My favorite cache would bring me to a unique place... somewhere I had to work to get to... that offered something really special. Specifically I think my favorite cache still is like the 4th cache I found. It was about 2 hours away from home... planned a get together with friends upstate and three families got together...5 kids and 3 adults...we had a rough but not too long uphill hike to get to the cache area...but when we got up there it was the perfect place for a unique kinda picnic on the dancefloor. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cachelog_details.asp?ID=459&L=17891 Made for a memorable afternoon that we never would have had without geocaching. I'm in NY here... midhudson valley... but as local goes in geocaching...welcome to the neighborhood Ttepee

  11. quote:Originally posted by urbo:they can add a few bucks to the cost of the cache but thats no biggie if you know you stand a chance of getting it back later down the road URBO Getting it back?.. man what would I do with all those ammo cans? Already they are taking over the house with more than half of them out there somewhere, you mean someday I might have them back and have to figure out somewhere to put them? I'll just have to cache them somewhere I guess ;-)
  12. Jeremy that sounds like a great idea! I like it!
  13. Mid-Hudson Valley in NY here. Hey you Jersey cachers Gilbert's Stash has been let loose about midstate once again, just wanted to give the heads up if you didn't see him. I hear he has new eyes, beret and a tattoo nowadays too. Any cachers with their knives sharpened and/or fresh batteries/film in the camera, go meet Gilbert
  14. Yeah I tend to agree with you. Though it's nice to see if one pops up in your area, they are on the weekly notification also. Can you imagine how long the list will be as spring and summer really set in?
  15. Webling...sounds like that's getting complicated but yeah that would be nice.
  16. Wow and I just noticed that the Photo Gallery only shows the most recent 100 anymore.
  17. Yeah I can remember those days too... but there also used to be 500 listed on recent logs if I'm not mistaken.... but please don't say they've outlived their usefullness. I love sitting down in the evening and seeing what everyone has been up to by reading the logs of peoples adventures.
  18. What's up with that? You can practically watch the recent logs scroll by... 200 is not enough... by the time I logged 3 caches for the day and two travel bugs we were already off the page. I don't care that I don't see my own logs there but man I must be missing stuff now ;-)...heheh no I'm not addicted... really I'm not! Jermey is this going to be the norm now? Just too much activity to keep up with?
  19. Ok how about most pregnant night time cacher? hehe This was a log from a travel bug page of mine "We made a detour on our way to vero beach from Orlando to visit this cache. The drive was a little longer than we thought, so we had to visit home depot for a flashlight before we went into the woods in the dark.My wife (6months pregnant) and I walked through the spider webs in the dark to save Old Bet from the alligators. This was a very good cache. It’s a great hiding place and the gps was very accurate. We forgot to carry something into the woods, I was too busy convincing my wife to walk into the dark woods, so we left a dollar and took Old Bet. We are planning on taking him to Ohio."
  20. the logo in the window is supposed to be a deterint from acually looking in my car. Sure shot burgalar alarm... who the hell would want to look through that crap to find something of value ;-)...hey do I finally have an excuse for that too ;-)

  22. "As I passed the vehicle I noticed a Geocaching symbol hanging from the mirror and grinned." My signature item is a totem pouch, containing a totem stone of an animal, along with description of that animals spirit, with the geocaching logo right on the front of the pouch. Works for me Though I'd still love to have a big old static cling that was tinted friendly!!!

  24. There are better letters out there than what I have composed so I'll just offer a little advice. Don't start off with the attitude that you are begging. Think of it more as an introduction and explain the game with enthusiasm. Try to address their concerns before they have a chance to voice them by your knowledge of the issues and show them your environmental concern. I think the biggest thing the parks need to know is that there is open communication, and if there is ever a problem they know who to contact to address it. As a little incentive I leave you with the closing statements of the last park official that gave me permission "Thank you for your responsiveness to our concerns. I must say that all in all I am very impressed with your (and presumably other geocachers) level of organization and responsibility. Thanks again for your interest in our parks and preserves." Good Luck to you... and don't sweat it! Ttepe
