  1. Are there any cachers in the St. Louis area that could help out an Old Gal down on her luck? TB Old Bet was moving great up until a few months ago when she got fairly close to her goal of New Mexico... she then sat in a cachers' house for 3 months... then was moved about 500 miles in the opposite direction... and now she's been sitting there for almost 2 months once again. We sure would love to see her hit the road again. Oh yeah she's sitting in Walker's Island Cache in Illinois. Thanks in Advance
  2. I love the offroute.com link. Plug in your area and it will pull up all kinds of maps and guides local to your area in the rec field your interested in (ie hiking/mtn biking) I got a couple of the guides and have found parks I never knew existed... it works great cause then you also get some background/history of the area, not to mention what parks service oversees the land.
  3. Really Bassoon Pilot...what's up with that? Actually all of those are in Putnam County... great bunch aren't they?... Now Dutchess county would bring you to Race you to the Top...hmmm.. I geuss that maybe slips past your range huh? ;-) That was the first of the tougher Hudson Highlands bunch... I rated it a 4 terrain at the time but now it seems kind of relative...if you can do Ft Defiance in 17 min it'd be cake for you ;-) Can you believe how long most of them sat before being found? It's nice to have a few new cachers and caches in the area. I was glad you got to most of them back in Aug, I was in NM on vacation but I had them scoped and in the planning stages. Jonboy sure is keeping the tribe busy....I love it!...but am willing to share..Westchester's nor Jersey are too far away [This message was edited by Ttepee on October 02, 2002 at 05:03 AM.]
  4. "Take some extra crackers & cheese along for the crows. They will appreciate it." I got a chuckle out of this one when I cheated and decrypted it the night before.....and we call it cheating!
  5. I love this story.... can picture it... doesn't every geocacher walk around with a rubber ducky in their pocket?? Maybe not but most will share their toys any chance they get. Though I don't know Da Rebel and have never been to Georgia... he's let me play with his toys too. I found a toy truck of his in New Mexico and played with it till I went back home to NY. Geocachers and their toys...did any of us ever really grow up??

  9. Personally I like Olympus... I have first hand experience now with the D360...D420..D480 and the C700... The images are top quality in all of them... the biggest differences in them is zoom and manual function capability... C700 is what I have now and I love it... 10X zoom... great for catching the wildlife you don't want to get too close to disturb. This camera adds in lots of manual programing options and I don't have the indoor nack worked out yet... but outdoors it's the best!

  11. jonboy... the query lets you narrow your search down to more specific caches, or weed out those your not interested in. I used it for the first time on my pda and my gps when I went to New Mexico. The Mobibook thing was great on the pda so that I didn't have to print up all the cache pages but I'm not too fancy with my execution...and I had all NM caches loaded in my gps using easygps. My gps is a simple garmin 12 with no maps... I've got mapsource on my puter but I'm not very good with it... I usually look at the topozone map and mapquest to get to the area... then follow the arrow. Some areas I've got the trail conference maps for... most of yours fall in that category... just another reason that I like your caches

  13. Hi Eagleflyby Congrats on finding one Moun10bike's coin... consider yourself priveledged. We here on the east coast don't get to see them too often... I've been meaning to get up to Race you to the Top to check it out but it's one of those hikes I have to plan for and need the time for and I just haven't had that kind of time lately. You can read about how Moun10bike created these in this old forum thread. but unfortunately I have to tell you that these are not available for purchase. Other people have been working on creating different version of geocoins and tokens... keep your eyes open in the forums and you might be able get in on one of these deals or get some ideas to work one up of your own Cool handle (eagleflyby)...would make for a cool logo! Welcome to caching... hope you plan to do some more caching in the Hudson Valley

  15. It's not working in my communicator 4.75 The map does not show up at all...and my MSIE 5.5 shows the map but I seem to be missing something still. hmmmmm
  16. I'm no help in NYC but if you happen to head through the eastern banks of the Mid Hudson Valley then certainly do drop a line. Ttepee
  17. Images uploaded need to be in JPG format. My guess is that the pics you have off the Kodak disk are in a different format... try using the save as function and converting the pics to jpg's ... hopefully that will work. Good Luck!

  19. I wonder with the new ratings on Where's George if the true Georger's wouldn't prefer the rest of us just spend the bills now rather than move them along in caches?
  20. Wow you sure blew by me quickly! It'll take me the rest of the month at least to get there. Great to have active cachers in the area, love your caches too! Keep on going strong! Happy caching! Ttepee
  21. Gilbert is a traveling cache also..and a travel bug with lots of goals. He is a hunk of wood that I carved the beginnings of a profile in and sent him out for other cachers to help create him. It's been great fun watching his travels. So far from what I know he has a ears & eyes, hair even a tattoo and he's added to his travel trunk a beret and a top hat.

Hey da Rebel, Very cool...hadn't noticed yet that he moved that quickly. Glad to have been able to help ....it was so tempting to bring him back to NY with us... but couldn't do that once we knew. Cool little stude ;-)
