  1. I'm using the Groundspeak app on my phone. When I go to Navigate to Cache and select Compass the Distance is in meters.
  2. I have a new Kyocera smart phone and when accessing distance to a cache using the compass it comes up in metric. I can't figure out how to convert the measurements to feet. Can anyone help?
  3. Also wanted to say thank you for this site. We aren't technically sophisticated and this was the one statistics website that we figured out how to use. Sure wish our Premium Groundspeak membership included such a fun site. We would've paid a small annual fee to keep this site going.
  4. We just upgraded last night, but fear we chose the wrong option with Paypal for when we clicked on paying the $30 using funds from our bank it said something like it could take up to 6 days to activate!!!! If we had known that was going to happen, we would have used our credit card, especially if that would take a lot less time to activate. We're disappointed as we are going on a trip on Friday and really wanted to have Premium Membership before we left. Now we fear we'll be stuck as basics.... Anyone else have this problem? 5inCalif4Geo who hopefully keep checking their email that we might get the magic S code.
  5. Forgot to say what the diabetes bug was that completed its city goal: Pleasanton, California We picked it up while in Portland, OR and fortunately were heading the 600 miles or so south to the Pleasanton area soon. I'm glad the bugs' true purpose is to spread the word about diabetes as we have 2 young nieces with Type 1 diabetes, but it's still fun to have the bugs reach their city goal. We were the first to put out one bound for Midrand, South Africa but is has a LONG ways to go.
  6. We just dropped off a diabetes tb that has completed its goal. We didn't see anything in its info page that let people log that it has reached its destination other than a usual travel bug log in page and also a diabetes bug contest photo page. Did we miss ia special log in place? We're assuming that someone out there wants to know that these bugs actually do reach their goals.
  7. I forgot to say 200 points for each travel bug/coin made and released
  8. We're relative newbies, but have noticed that some members really enjoy the numbers game aspect of geocaching and that travel bugs are not always moved as fast or in the right direction as some people would like. With these things in mind, we've wondered if there has been an attempt to coax an additional geogame along. To keep it simple, but fun, a travel bug/coin game could award: 100 points for a find of a travel bug or geocoin at a cache 25 points for a discover (excluding discovers at group events) After 14 days of holding a travel bug/coin a point a day would be subtracted 25 points would be given for moving a bug/coin to another cache on the same date (But no points given for a quick check in/out just to rack up these travel points) 50 points could be deducted from the dropper of bug/coin within 14 days by the owner for blatantly not moving the bug/coin according to its goal. Examples of deduction could be for such things as a bug wants to go to beaches, but is dropped at a dirt bike trail area (this just happened to one of mine) Only 50 points would be deducted in case the mover did not know of the bug's intended goal (some bugs do not have goals attached to them). Possibly a highlighted sign could appear by a dropper who contests the 50 point deduction and/or a volunteer member could mitigate the occassional disputes 25 points awarded for a download of the bug/coin at the cache
  9. Wow, being a newbie we had no idea how many diabetic travel bugs there are. I must have got one of the very last ones just a little over a week ago. I was going to send it on its way today, but the pouring rain deterred me. I've laminated a little map along with its destination to go with the bug, as I wonder if people knew what they should do with it when they found it. Do wish I could turn the alphabetical list into something a bit more user friendly, as there are just too many pages to sort through to find all the bugs going to one country or to even find the names of particular cities. I admit that the directions about logging tb's are confusing. The differences between "discover" ,"grab", etc. are still a bit foreign to us, but we're slowly getting the hang of it. Thanks for making the effort to contact people and help them out. You are wonderful!
  10. We have Type 1 diabetics in our family and would like to know if any bugs have their cities' destinations. Is there a list somewhere of all the diabetes travel bugs out there?
  11. Thanks again to all who responded. This expands the range of possible units considerably. I know the magellan 210 is highly recommended and am wondering if there are any similar priced/featured garmins as well?
  12. These last two posts help a lot. Do you know if most of the basic garmin units have a compass screen that indicates the direction you want to go as well? Thanks again,
  13. Thanks for responding. Your post was definitely helpful but I didn't think the explorist 210 had the electronic compass are you sure it does? Thanks again,
  14. I'm looking for a gps unit that will make it easier for my family to locate geocaches and am wondering if I need a unit with an electronic compass. I've been able to locate caches by differencing lat and lon coordinates but that is a pain and my wife and kids would like something that would tell them how far and in what direction to go. I've been looking at the Magellan explorist 300 and am wondering what I loose relative to the explorist 210. I'm also open to other recommendations. Thanks in advance for any help, Peter
