  1. Per the guidlines: 1 - Did you comply with the once a month vistation of the gc.com site? No 2 - Did you provide a means to verify finds? No I'm not about numbers and couldn't care less if people log a gazillion bogus finds, they are only cheating themselves. But there are people who care. Is it fair to them to have an "Armchair Virtual" that anybody can log without leaving their house? No. It looks to me like the reviewer was acting within the GC.com guidelines to archive the cache. As a suggestion, you might have tried being a little less confrontational when replying to the reviewer. Things may have worked out differently.
  2. I belive Chevota is the popular term. Nice rig. Iwould like go V8 next year, but I'll hold on the the gear train.
  3. Some people find it right away others take two or three trips. For scale
  4. Is the rock on the ground fake? Not the rock, maybe this will help.
  5. Can you spot it? I planted this cache after a year of finding caches hidden in rock piles. You think Lamp post micros get old? Edit tpos
  6. Gorillia glue requires moisture to cure properly. The surfaces should be damp, not wet.
  7. Lets see the Thursday before a four day weekend, productivity fairly skyrockets around here.
  8. Sic em Jake! Just kidding Jake wouldn't hurt a fly. Trash is a problem, poo will go away trash is forever. This not to say that pet owners shouldn't clean up after their dogs. I always have the items I need to clean up behind Jake. Some owners don't. I've noticed that parks which offer "Mutt Mitts" are cleaner than those that don't. Maybe you should contact your local Parks and Recreation department and suggest more Doggy sanitation stations?
  9. You might consider a theme cache. I have a cache that I fill with maps I get free from Nevada DOT. People trade their maps for mine. I placed it not far from the convention center but in a cool little green belt hidden behind a shopping center. This week I got maps of Britian and Maui. Of course I also got California I love maps so most of the trades are good with me, but even this cache gets the odd Yahoo driving directions map on occasion. I mean do I really want directions to my own cache?
  10. Based on personel observation I would disagree with the statment that kids are "dragged" along. In fact in some cases the kids drag the parents along, right K-9? Having the facilities to find caches on their own is moot. Kids generally don't have the facilities to get to the amusment park on their own but they still enjoy going. In my opinion excluding any clasification of caches would lessen the sport. After being exposed to traditional, micros, virtuals, and locationless caches going to a single type of cache would be like going back to B&W TV.
  11. Funny I thought the OP just wanted to increase the number of existing cachers that support this site. I didn't get at all that they thought people should pay to play. So what if there are a few (MO) caches out there that not everyone has access to? It's not about the numbers right?
  12. The RTV at the autoparts store isn't a two-part mix. I've heard of people making molds out of that stuff, but I haven't tried it. Google is your friend, here. If you have any questions, shoot me an email. I typically heat the mold prior to pouring the plastic, so it gets plenty hot. Also, remember that RTV is what they use as the mold when making jewelry. It will take the heat. If you are careful, it should be good for about twenty pours before you have to make a new mold. Regular RTV ( Room Temperature Vulcanizing) products will work for molds if you coat the positive with spray carnuba wax (available where fiberglass supplies are sold) first. Some kind of mold release is needed since most RTV's are intended to stick, pam or any spray cooking oil might work to.
  13. Dude. Don't you pay attention to advertising? Jeep. "There's only one." That implies there is nothing else capable out there. Back on topic, your suggestions for OP are right-on. Not only regional forums, but 4 X 4 groups in the local area may be a great avenue to find a 4 X 4 pal and create another convert to geocaching at the same time. The great Cache Prophet, Jeremy, would be pleased. They are trail rated to, isn't that a goverment thing? Around here many of the local offroad club members already geocache. If you like wheeling this cache is just for you, Buck Island is mid way on the Rubicon.
  14. They could be used to indicate the relative popularity of the sport in each state (with some extenuating factors thrown in). For example none of the Southern States reach the national average. The West as a whole is above average. Of the New England States, Vermont ranks highest. That kind of stuff. I was to surprised to see that my home state of Michigan was below the average. Good points. Also interesting to note is that Idaho being #1 per capita seems to have virtually no regulation of caching . Where I've talked to people they are thrilled to have people use their trials, or parks. When I've asked about permits they laugh because it would require rules and regulations and people to enforce them for an activity they consider harmless. This sentament is not universal, but I have not talked to anyone who felt otherwise. Merley heard of them 2nd hand. Pretty much the response I got from the Nevada(#7) State Parks Director.
  15. A nice soak in bleach water will effectivly remove food odors in used plastic items.
  16. Ya mean not ruling out psycho killers ? I was thinking about the sub title, but that to. Hey psycho killers need friends to. Plus they know all the good hiding places.
  17. It might be interesting to do the same set based on pop/area and compare the list.
  18. You might also try local off road forums, and being a little more open minded. Jeeps are only one of the many capable offroad vehicles out there. This is my Toyota on a cache hunt near Virginia City.
  19. I like it! The suggestion to do a family circle is great.
  20. Don't over look the easy urban caches because they may be kid oriented. One hunt took me to a terrific little "pocket park" around the corner from my office. It is well hidden and I have never seen another soul in it. I eat lunch there about three* days a week in the summer. *(I cache on the other days. )
  21. Discrepant numbers aside, what meaning do these statistics have? How can they be usefully applied? Statistics for statistics sake?
  22. I "walk my dog". In general I don't like crowds so I stick to caches out in the boonies, an almost fool proof way to avoid the muggle issues all together.
  23. I like the zip out leg synthetic material pants. Hate cargo pocket pants, extra weight in my pants gives me a severe case of plumbers crack. I've experiment with a lot of fanny packs but keep going back to my 20 year old day pack. I just added a nylon bag with caching specific stuff in it.
  24. So what am I missing? Occasionaly I get a message that (roughly) states that my GPS can not fix on enough birds to get a 3D location. I always assumed the 3rd dimension was altitude. (I'm pretty sure I'm going to slap myself in the fore head when this is explained to me. )
