  1. My main gps setup is an older dell axim x5 pocket pc pda. I use it with a holux gr-271 compact flash gps receiver and an app i bought years ago called beelie gps. Back then i used the pda for various things. Now i only use it for geocaching but it works great for me.
  2. I just picked up a used samsaung galaxy tab as i wanted something smaller tha my ipad. I agree that a tablet at the moment cannot be your main pc. But one of the things i am using my tablet for is geocaching ( urban only. I will bring my pocket pc/gps in the woods) I downloaded the free android app c:geo and uploaded a pocket query. I have not activated my verizon data and probably will not anytime soon but i used the app for the offline query which can be used with the built in gps receiver on the galaxy tab to look for caches.
  3. Hi, I am using Beeline GPS with the Globalstat BT-368i GPSr for geocaching, with my Ipaq 210. When I get to the point of slowing down to a stroll or stopping on foot and starting to search for the actual cache, my GPS info is very jumpy with all the coordinates all over the place. I was googling today and it seems to me this is related to Static navigation? Does that sound correct to you also? Please note that I do not have this issue with the same setup (except for my sirf III CF GPSr, holux GR-271). If this is indeed related to static navigation, is there an easy way I can disable (or enable depending on what terminology is refering to). The GPS connects and communicaltes flawlessly otherwise. Thanks
  4. I have been using my Dell Axim 2003 with a CF GPS receiver and bluetooth. I just got the same BT receiver you are using and am using that now with my ipaq 210 and beeline gps. The thing that I am noticing though is that my beeline gps screen is very jumpy now. (I used the 210 with the CF GPSr also and it did not behave this way). Anyone who is using beeline GPS with a (any) BT receiver experience this? thanks
  5. I use beeline. No maps on it but easy to use and can import and export waypoints easily.
  6. Hi, I now have a reverse questionsto this. I mported the pocket query data into beeline gps when I did it. How do I go about removing all of the caches I imported from beeline all at once? thank you
  7. thank you for the followup. I will have it emailed to me. that's perfect.
  8. I downloaded the gpx file as I made the query. I did not set it up to email it to me. I did it when I wanted it. I can see the hints, clues etc when I import single caches into beeline gps. My problem occurs when the multiple cache in the single files is imported. I can see location on map but no clues or logs, or hints.
  9. I ran a few pocket queries now and then and imported thm into beeline gps. Is there a reason why I cannot see any clues, users comments etc when I click on waypoint for the paperless caching info. I can see all this when I download individual gpx files. thanks
  10. I use beeline gps with my Dell Axim X5 and CF receiver for geocaching. The price is good. $30.00 with free lifetime updates I believe. It even manages the gpx fiese that are downloaded from geocaching.com. Simple to use. I tried a few others, but I liked this one for my needs. There is also a demo yof this you can try, which I did first. Check it out.
  11. Not knowing what programs and what file type does hinder an answer. Howver, the compaq aero was one of the first pocket pc's. I am assuming you are attempting to add geocaching pocket pc software to it. You need to make sure that the pocket pc software being sold or tried is for the same operating system as your unit. I googled it and saw that it is probably Windows CE ver 2.11. I am not sure if this is pocket pc 2000 or before it. After pocket pc 2000, there was 2002, windows mobile 2003, 2003se, 2005 and now 2006. I do not think you are going to find any of the newer geo caching pda software titles for your unit but you may. The best bet is to check with the software developer to see if they have an older version, even if they do not sell it anymore.
  12. I have a Holux gr271 (sirf III) for my Axim X5. Works great for geocaching and on the road. I can go for a couple hours oin the 2200 mah battery and it gets me to 50% power on my pda. I nver used a BT one so I cannot compare to that, but I like what I am using for my needs.
  13. Here is where I am getting stuck. Im not sure what version OS I have but my Axim calls it Pockey PC Version 3.0.11171 (Build 11178). It doesn't say anything about Windows Mobile at all. So, I guess the first question is, how do I get a Windows Mobile upgrade for my Axim? My Axim X5 adavanced (64mb 400 hhz version) in windows mobile 2003 (aka Pocket pc 2003). I have rom version A05, Os version 4.20.1081 (build 13100) I think this is the highest you can go. There are no upgraded for WM2003se and wm 2005. You can check the dell website for rom upgrades and also check aximsite. I think form visitng aximiste almost daily, dell named their roms screwy names, but you will gt the axoim help you need form aximsite. Good luck.
  14. I did a lot of searching for a good case and found for my needs the aquapack classic plus, I believe it's called. You should check it out because it has a neck strap and stylus holder as well. I think I got mine for approx $35.00 with a gift certificate I had from Amazon.
  15. I use the older Dell Axim X5 with CF receiver and Beeline GPS. works great. You can always add memory via sd and or cf cards. Just get a good waterproof crush resistent type case.
  16. The case is a perfect fit with a little (not much more than that) room. NO matter where you get it fom, the measurements are posted on the product specs also. I keep mine around my neck with the starp. The drawback being there is the potential to drop it, no shockproof. Another chepa option is to get the larger thicker ziplock bags. again, not shockproof, but it would keep the until dry and dustfree. also,as an fyi, when I am not geocaching withthe aquapack, I keep my axim in a rhinoskin metal case. this allows me to keep the axim protected AND keepether a cf wifi or gps receiver in the slot at the same time
  17. I just started geocaching last november. I am using a Dell Axim X5, WM03. Here is my set up and this works great for me. Battery: I had purchased about a year or so ago an extended battery for my AXIM, so I got that and two standard batteries (one that came with the unit and an extra one that I asked for for a xmas present one year). I carry the spares with me when I geocache. GPS receiver-I have a wired GPS receiver that I used for years with tomtom mapping for the road. I always wanted a CF receiver so last Sept. for my Birthday, I asked for one. I actually found one on geeks.com (peridocially still there also) for a Holux Gr271 CF receiver. $45.00. The driver softare comes with it. You can get this for close to this price at other sites, just google. It is sirf III, so it is the latest chipset. I now also use the CF receiver for on the road also, less wires. from semsons, $75.00 http://www.semsons.com/hogmslcoflgp.html from buygpsnow.com, $75.00 http://www.buygpsnow.com/holux-gr-271-holu...i-waas-540.aspx Amazon, strtaing at $54.00 http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00...mp;linkCode=asm This is where I got it from, old link, out of stock currently, $51.00 http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=GR-271&cpc=SCH GEOCACHING.COM signed up as a premium annual member with geocaching.com ($30.00/year) so I could download the .gpx files that have the clues and coordinates. SOFTWARE: also use the beeline GPS sofware ($30.00). This can manage the waypoints by importing the .gpx file. You can also use it to go to the cache. It s a simple, yet powerful all in one software (no actual maps) IMHO. HERE IS THE LINK: http://www.visualgps.net/BeeLineGPS/ I purchased an "aquapak classic plus" to protect my setup (waterproof, keeps dust out, and can hang on neck with strap). HERE IS THE LINK TO A SITE THAT SELLS THEM (i BOUGHT MINE FROM AMAZON)http://greatoutdoors.altrec.com/shop/detail/19808/ I did a lot of searching for reviews and checking different forums before I bought what I did. Like I said this works for me very well and I also wanted to stay on a budget. I also tried to look at products that I could use with a different PDA if I ever got rid of my Axim (I would wnat a rpelacement that had both CF and SD slots, anotehr reason for choosing the CF receiver). Searching for a geat deal is a lot of work but rewarding. Also, you can try out most software using the trial before you decide to buy. Hope this helps.
  18. I use Beeline GPS software for caching. You can also search google for GPStuner and backcountry navigator for other possible solutions. I have been using the trial for Beeline and will be purchasing it soon. It is very simple to use and can also manage the waypoints as well. I am using a dell axim X5 WM03 with Holux GR271 CF receiver
  19. I was trying out beeline gps. It is $30.00 but has some other features when linked to a GPC receiver and the pocket pc (which is why i wanted it). It reads the .gpx files also anfter you click on the import feature on the pocket pc screen). You can try the demo for 30 days and it gives full functionality.
  20. You can get a refurb one of these at geeks.com for $159.99 USD. The link is below. http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=EX...0-R&cpc=HPM
  21. Are there any Geocaching magazines that are published? Thanks
  22. Hi, I am very new to geocaching and I am in the process of trying out beeline. So far, this does seem to be very complete, and is not a memory hog like some of the others. I did email tech support a question and want to throw the same to you. I impoted the .gpx waypoint and got to it. The message popped up saying I was there. The question I have is that in the distance to waypoint box, it still says I have approx 55 feet (or yards?) to go still til I get there. I tried manually impoutting the coordinates also and get the same issue. What does this mean? Are there any settings I need to adjust? thanks
