  1. Here is my .02c - I have a somewhat popular geocoin (Vacman Geocoin. Right now there are 143 of these coins out in circulation. Of the 143, only 11 are currently available to find. 14 have completely disapeared, and roughly 40 are "in transit"(being placed by cachers who are not "keeping" them). Originally, I thought that a few people would want to keep them, and the majority would continue to journey around the world. The reality is that people like them too much to give them up. I no longer really care what people do with them as long as they log their intent on my site.
  2. Here is the link to the original cache. In a nutshell the newspaper article implied that I was the one involved in the crime. It was until you got to the end of the article at the back of the "A" section that I am vindicated. I did find the article Click here to read it.
  3. Oh wow! I hadn't realized that they had pulled the article completely from their site. I will see if I have it here. Will post the link if I can find it....
  4. Whenever I see a thread like this, I tend to Markwell... This is the story of what happened to one of my caches... Butcher Hill, aka Jailhouse cache Be sure to read the thread and newpaper story as well.
  5. The only problem you will run into with installing it on more than one machine is that you will have to have the original cd with you to run the proggy at either machine. I have heard that there is a hack out there somewhere to get around this particular issue...
  6. Duh guys! Why do you think it is called Labor Day?
  7. Nice! I e-mailed Fizzy to see if he could look at my code. Thanks for pointing me there.
  8. Ok!! I got it. If you want a tool for converting geocaching WP into distance.... here it is. Waypoint - to - Distance Calculator I will tell you that it is approximate. The larger the distance, the greater the error. I am still exploring it. But it is a cool little ditty,
  9. Well - I no w have the calcs... my biggest problem is that I have no real stable way of retrieving the lat/lon coords from the GC system. I did try a fetch routine that copies the page (using the WP IE GCHE4M) from the gc site. my code will then parse the page and retrieve the coords from it. The problem, is that there is an inconsistant page layout! I never realized it, but sometimes the pages display slightly different. The coords are sometimes 3 or more characters off on the layout. What I really need is a routine that would retireve only the coords from the site..... oh well, will keep coding along. I will figure something out.
  10. Markwell - that link was what I needed. For the last day or so, I have been trying to figure out the formulas that are being used for the Great Circle equations. I am trying to add distance measuring capability to my site for my signature item. The only other thing I need to do now, is to figure out how to retrieve the lat/lon number for a given WP (IE GCHE4M) for the GC system. Once I have that figured out I now can go forward. I have tried to emulate the CG.com TB logging system which I have written in PHP. So far, so good. But I would like to expand it this last step. Last 10 Vacman Geocoins Movements
  11. These are all great resources, but what I am wondering is what method is GC.com using to come up with the WP and distances between those WP for travel bugs... (IE GCHE4M, GCA6F3) - I suspect that the are not using this, but the actual lat/lon numbers, but I am wondering... Any ideas?
  12. Speaking of cigs being found - I had one of my caches get itself involved in a drug bust.... Butcher Hill (aka Jailhouse Cache)
  13. Check out this little story... GPS Railcar Bombs...?

  17. BTW Auntie - I love your site as well. I feel the same way about any kind of foreign currency as well. I have a collection of worthless paper money, but keep it because of where it has been over the years.
