Thanks for the advice, but still no dice. I hold the menu up and then power buttons and do get a white screen with menu options of Factory, RUN, Other, Help. (I tried a variety of the options which I can get to by pressing Menu and then the down button, but none of them does anything visible to my eye. And of course, the machine still does not show up in my computer drive list, and the Magellan Update Wizard still can't find it. I'm using windows 7 and my explorist is running 1.7, which I can't update because my computer doesn't think it's attached! Still frustrated!!
And yes, the USB port and cord work fine for other things including my geomate Jr. Any advice?!
That white screen is your disc access screen. Perform the software update while that white screen is showing. You need to do nothing further on the Explorist to complete the firmware upgrade.
