Was over at my mother in laws and had set my Garmin Legend on the coffee table. Curiousity got the best of the cat and he pulled it down and managed to get tangled in the lanyard. He must have thought it "attacked" him so he took off like his tail was on fire. Of course the GPS kept up with him bouncing off of the corners of "EVERYTHING" and finally came loose. Needless to say it was a suprise to find it not works, but there wasn't a scratch on it. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me you had your tracking on...that would be one interesting display. Maybe some of us cat owners could recreate it and see whos cat has the fastest top speed or if they all run in a genetically determined pattern of avoidance. I'm already looking at how to adapt a 'RAM Mount' to fit a cat ...just a little more duct tape and I think I got it!!! GPSr's...A step in the right direction! That would have been neat! Unfortunately it was off, and in the house BTW, no cats were harmed in this post. (Just his ego )

Now I have a Venture that I paid $10 more for that is gonna go back ;-) Legend $109 Venture $119 Staples PriceMatch Policy + coupons = Priceless
  6. Glad you got a good deal! YMMV on the match to Amazon, if you didn't get something to kick it over $200... But they do match it as you found... Need to find it for less now
  7. Well there are some forums that post deals, i.e. www.fatwallet.com etc and they regularly post all the coupon codes. What they do tho, is invalidate the coupon. (can't enter it, and can't call in on it, or make ya fax it) If it works when you enter it, it works...
  8. Looked through the manual and couldn't find an answer to this. After a while, I get a few capital D's in the black sat bars on my Garmin Legend. Does this indicate that those are the sats used for determining position or? Just Curious...

When we are in heavy forest cover he loses the signal while my SporTrak Pro does not. The downside is that even though I have not actually lost the signal it seems that my accuracy is way down. It seems to me that Garmin is relaying info correctly "HELP NO SIGNAL!" While the Magellan leads you to believe that it is still locked. To each their own. I would rather know that my GPSr can't accurately determine position instead of it "guessing"

Try it in the woods, then report back with results. Clown Knife, you should take that advice with your MeriPlat. It seems to me wkendrvr is very happy that he purchased the Legend and thinks it "kicks butt." Dunno bout kicks butt, but it sure does fine for me. The only reason for posting it was due to all the negative "can't get a lock" type posts. Makes you wonder if it is a user thing, or a quality control thing.

  13. Well it also depends on the Etrex model too... On my Legend you PRESS AND HOLD the click stick and it will go into MARK MODE. Then you use the click stick to go to the location to edit. Course the easier way is to download em in.... Enjoy!
  14. A couple of things First off. The one point missing here is that calibration happens at a particular speed. I.E. A speedo might be calibrated at 55. At 25 it might be off, at 85 it might be off, but at 55 it is calibrated. Also, if the car is German engineered, you will likely find the speedo is 5 km/h off (give or take) This is alledgedly due to stiff manufacturer's fines (in Germany) if the speedos read low. YMMV (and speed too )

Imagine life in a cacheless society! Actually I did, (that was the 2 for 2 cache's) Hafta wait til spring for more leaf cover tho.
  16. Was at K-Mart and noticed they had a box with 32 containers (varying sizes) all sealable for $13. Anyone try these? Looks like there are some small ones that would work nicely for a size up from micro caches.
  17. After reading til my eyes hurt, I was beginning to doubt my purchase of a Garmin Legend (regarding tree cover etc.) After a 2 for 2 day (the first one I was literally standing NEXT to the CACHE!!) I was impressed. But I was utterly amazed to get a 17ft accuracy lock IN THE RESTAURANT AT LUNCH! I was in the building and was playing with the Garmin (yeah I know, wife told me its annoying ) Not thinking that I would get a lock on anything but to my suprise it was catching 6 birds! I no longer fear tree cover! The one thing that I did notice (I have had more than a few GPS units) is that this one is particular to the position of the antenna even more so than some of the others. That said, if you have the antenna pointed skyward, it works. If you plan on hanging it around your neck, then checking it, you might get a suprise no-lock. I found it to be about as particular of antenna position as my GPS 38 was. (boy was that slow to lock ) Enjoy!
  18. Gotta do this by 12/31. The Amazon match includes free shipping soooo...
  19. Awesome! I just found out about the Amazon for $199. Looks like there are treasure's that aren't in caches out there

  21. quote:Originally posted by preiter:I looked at the price match policy and it says that any coupons or rebates will be subtracted when price-matching. Won't they see the rebate and refuse to price match? Even without the price matching, it's still a bargain at $149. Thanks! Paul J Reiter Yup it works. :-) The trick is to order first. Then call back with the price match. Discount coupons are not usually used in the pricematch, but by doing it after, you guarantee it. Got a credit of $31 (cuz of the shipping) Enjoy!
